  1. Add grep/regex to Find and Replace feature

We really need some kind of grep or pattern matching in the Find and Replace dialogue.

I don't expect it to be InDesign-level functionality, but after all this time even rudimentary grep would be a blessing.

Maybe the Bridge regex could be adapted to Illustrator somehow...

  2. CID/GID (Character ID/Glyph ID) are displayed in Glyphs panel.

In the case of Japanese, there are many variations of Chinese character, so it is useful to know CID/GID.
Because it does not make a mistake when designing character. Also, I want CID/GID when using many old characters.

A common UI with InDesign is desirable.

  3. Ability to switch how letters overlap

By default, when letters overlap, each following glyph is displayed above the previous one.

When using text effects or OpenType-SVG fonts, this can lead to disappointing results, like shadows on the wrong direction.

Would love to be able to toggle the order in which all glyphs of a specific text selection are rendered: above or below the previous one.

Could even use the extra space in the Character palette to include the feature button ;)

  4. Snap textframe size to content (like double-click in InDesign)

A function appreciated by all in InDesign.. doubleclick the side of the boundingbox of a textframe and it snaps/scales immediately to the content.

I'm not talking about Type -> Area Type Options -> Auto-size

  6. Select Text From Anywhere Within Text Box

Say I want to select some text. If I click and drag within a text box, Illustrator assumes that I want to create an additional text box. To select the text I want, I need to position my pointer exactly next to the text.
Can the 'selected' area be expanded to within the entire text box?

  7. Forced column break

Can we get some decent text handling features that mimic at least fundamental options such as column breaks and a table feature within Illustrator? It's been 30 years now can't you get this done for once and for all?

  8. Stop installing foreign fonts I don't need

The font list is getting longer and longer, so it seems. Now we have (rather gimmicky if you ask me) Variable fonts.

I just want to get work done. I live in the Netherlands and I speak Dutch and English.

I don't speak Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew or Thai so I don't need to have these fonts available. These fonts just clutter my already long font list and make browsing and finding the font I actually need more difficult.

Solution: check the system in what language it is in and only install fonts which the user can actually use. Offer whatever…

  9. Loaded eyedropper just like in InDesign

I wish the eye dropper behaved more like it does in InDesign: If you pick up a type style, you "keep" that style and can apply it to several different text boxes. so if you have a text box with 4 subheads and body copy after each and you want to change all of the subheads to match the first one that you've changed, you could click on the desired style, and then click-drag over each of the subheads carrying the same style to each

  10. Select Same Text Contents

Please make a way to select text object with the same contents.
Would be very useful for many practical cases.
Sure with have Find and Replace, but it won’t allow us to SELECT these text objects,, which we can use for styling, hiding, moving, rearranging, and more.

The latest Beta version (27.7) has the ability to filter contents of the Layers panel with an input field at the top of the panel. It does not directly select the objects that have the chosen value in their names (this includes the text contents), but allows to select them faster in the panel.

    Does it help?

  11. Convert to path object - keep object name

When I rasterise a letter or text in Photoshop, the layer keeps the original name.

Why can't Illustrator do the same? I type the letter A and the object in layers has the name "A". If I now change the letter to a Path object, the group is no longer called "A" but "group". What is still ok with one letter, becomes very annoying with 500 letters. Especially when it comes to special characters like ́ ˘ ̧ ̒ ̋ ̏ ̀ ̌ ̦ ̊ ̄ - ̨ ̣ ̇ ̷ ̃ ̈ ^, which are difficult to read in…

  12. Convert to Type On A Path

The option to convert point or area type to 'type on a path' would be helpful. Also to be able to use the pen tool to add points on a 'point type path' and by doing so converting it to 'type on a path'. This removes the need to draw the path then add the type.

  13. Can't undo Auto bullets

If I undo the bullets (which came automatic after space bar) the letter disappear.

For example: I can't use (-) at front of text with 1 spacebar.

  15. Character and Paragraph Styles

In indesign Character and Paragraph Styles are very easy to use, and they can be grouped. Is it possible to have similar styles in illustrator?

  16. Ability to search Glyphs by name

For Symbol/Icon fonts, it's impossible to find a specific icon you're looking for when there are thousands of unicode icons to sort through one by one. If I want to find headphones or something in the Glyphs panel, right now I can't just type "headphones". I have to search through every single icon and can easily pass by it multiple times.

  19. Character Styles should only contain deviations from paragraph styles (like in InDesign)

In InDesign, I can simply design a paragraph using a paragraph style and then apply deviations (such as bolding) via a character style, because I can create a paragraph style that contains the sole information "style: bold". So that when I change the font in the paragraph style, the character style will simply apply the bolding to the new font.

In Illustrator, however, I need to select a font for the character style before I can select the style. This means that if I change the font in the paragraph style, I would also have to update it in the…

  20. Missing Fonts Copy/Paste Font File Name in Resolve Missing Fonts Window

If Multiple fonts are missing , and all need to be activated in my font management system, I have to type in the search bar the name of the font exactly as it is spelled in order for the correct one to appear. This can be time consuming when a customer has provided multiple fonts with irregular naming conventions.

Can we have an update that makes the notices in Resolve Missing Fonts window active so it is possible to copy the name of the font exactly as it is being recognized in the program?

    Thanks.
