  1. Make "Create Outlines" not greyed out when text is selected

If I am creating a text element for the sole purpose of converting it to outline, it is confusing that the "Type > Create Outlines" option is greyed out when the text is selected.

"Create Outlines" should not be greyed out, and when the user clicks there could potentially be a warning the first time saying:

"Creating Outlines will make it impossible
to edit the text box, would you like to proceed?

[ ] Do not show this message again"

Although one could assume that the user knows what they are doing, and that the warning message might be annoying…

  2. Rename the 'Typing' history step for auto-bullet conversion to a clearer label (e.g., AutoFormat)

Using Undo to roll back the auto conversion of bullets now works as it should (thanks to this report: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/46954429), but the history step is just called with general 'Typing', and it doesn’t add clarity.

Compare it with something like Microsoft Word, where the step is called 'AutoFormat' — still a broad name, but much easier to spot!
Plus, Word offers to undo the auto-formatting right there in text when typing with a widget... and it offers a way to disable it completely right THERE.
Ai’s solution is rather blunt and cheap and lacks elegancy in this current form.…

  3. Make zooming in respect the text insertion point (text cursor)

With or without the Zoom to Selection option (in Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display), zooming in (I use Cmd/Ctrl+Plus a lot when I edit text) into the edited text won’t respect the blinking cursor’s position. So If I decided to zoom into a text I’m editing, Ai would just zoom in the middle, hiding my point of interest out of the view.
Thanks to Brian Wood for bringing the attention to it.

More of it — if I START typing (or press an arrow button), hoping for the view to adjust (like it used to do) — it won’t…

  4. Cannot select some character in Thai

Normally, I can select every character in Thai. Now it cannot be separately selected, especially the tone mark and the vowel. Please see the attached picture for reference.

  5. Warichu’s Adjustment value is limited to an integer in point

Confirmed in Illustrator 30.3.0 and CS4.
It's probably a problem that occurs in all past versions.

The "Warichu" using for vertical writing text, under use in Japanese environment.
The adjustment value is set only to integers of points and it is very troubling.
In that state, I can only do a rough job too much.
I would like to improve so that more detailed values can be set.

    <Japanese>
    Illustrator 30.3.0 および 14 (CS4) で確認済み。
    おそらく過去のどのバージョンでも発生する問題です。

    割注設定の行間がPoint整数値ごとにしか設定できない。
    これでは大雑把な仕事しかできない。
    細かい値を設定できるよう改善して欲しい。

    また、テキストオブジェクトの拡大・縮小に追従されない。

    <検証手順>
    1. テキストに割注を設定し、行間をpoint以外の整数などにする
    2. 割注設定を再び開いて値を確認する

    1. 割注の行間に目安となる長方形を作成
    2. テキストと長方形を選択して拡大・縮小

    <結果>
    2. 値がpoint整数値に四捨五入されている
    4. 割注の行間は長方形とずれてゆく

    <理想とされる結果>
    2. 割注の行間は入力した値をキープすること
    4. 割注の行間はテキストと同様に拡大・縮小されること

  6. Allow no not change the font in Glyphs panel to match the selected text

When I display the Glyphs panel while text is selected, the font attributes of the selected text are applied, causing the font at the bottom of the Glyphs panel to change to the selected font.

For example, if I’m looking at Futura symbols but accidentally click on text set to Helvetica — the symbols displayed switch to Helvetica.

There are times when I want to enter a special character, such as a cherry blossom mark, at the beginning of Futura text. However, when I try to view and enter that character using the Glyphs panel and click on the Futura…

  7. Please update the Glyph Panel with a search feature for icon tags in icon fonts.

Currently, if I create a text block to add an icon-font, the default placeholder text prevents the icon font from being displayed in the Glyphs pallet. I have to delete the placeholder text just to see the Glyphs.

But more importantly, I spend a great deal of time digging through these icon fonts to find the icon I need.

What would be ideal is if you would enhance the Glyphs pallet to include a simple text field that would allow me to search within an icon font (or really any font) for a specific character tag.

    The enclosed image shows…

  9. Add a forced 'lowercase' option in the Character panel’s menu, similar to one InDesign has

InDesign has a way to force a selected text to be always displayed in lowercase.
Illustrator does not offer this option, as the attached screenshots show.
This option would be useful for cases when a font relies mostly on lower-case characters, using its upper case for emphasis, rather than a traditional usage of it, for starting sentences and given names with capitals — not uncommon in comics.
A current workaround is to run the native Type > Change Case > lowercase each time a text gets pasted (or setting up a custom routing with third-party apps to change the text…

  10. In the Font Palette, under Filters, please add English, or Latin, or Western European Roman. PLEASE!!!

The lack of a Western European or Roman filter is insanely stupid. The way it works now, if I want to work in Burmese, I can have a nice short font list. But if I want to work in English, I have to show ALL LANGUAGES, so I wind up with a list of 400 fonts, most of which are unusable. This seems prejudicial, if not negligent. Why on earth was this obvious filter item excluded????

As per the team, they do understand that it’s an issue for folks working across multiple languages.

In Illustrator, however, the font filtering is based on script, not a simple language grouping. Hence it’s not very straight forward to do for Latin. There is no concrete plan or timeline to make it resolved, but it’s now added to the backlog.

Thank you all for raising this up. Feel free to share more thoughts, do report, request, comment, and upvote — this really helps to steer the development.

  11. Enable Display Font Names in English by default in non-CJK versions

Previously we got a dedicated option for this, based on this request: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/35995396

But it should be the default choice in non CJK versions.

  12. Cannot copy paste text from Illustrator generated PDF's

    To reproduce the issue:
    Create an Illustrator file
Create a new text frame, type anything and set font to Stratos (OTF) (as available from Adobe Fonts)
Export PDF through "Export for screens"
Trying to copy paste text fails

The issue occurs more precisely with characters that have glyphnames like uniXXXX.
Almost all characters in Stratos have uniXXXX names, even though they are present in the
AGL. So "A" has "uni0041" as glyphname.
We were under the assumption that uniXXXX glyph names were accepted.
The issue only seems to occur with .otf fonts.

See the two attached PDF's for
    251119-Stratos-ttf.pdf will…

  14. Paste in Front / Back should be disabled while actively editing text

Ctrl+B and Ctrl+F are still available to paste objects while user is actively editing text. This should not be allowed.
Ctrl+V does some kind of text only paste in the active text edit field (this makes sense) but hitting Ctrl+B or Ctrl+F (by default, paste in back/front) these will ACTUALLY paste artwork whatever it may be in the location copied from, WHILE the user is in the text edit field. This could mean unexpected behavior and user may not realize they pasted something as it may not even have drawn on screen.
Editing text should be single threaded, and focused…

  17. Eyedropper tool breaks Chinese/English mixed text after recent update

Title: Eyedropper tool breaks Chinese/English mixed text after recent update

    Description:
In previous versions of Illustrator, when working with sentences containing both English and Chinese text, the Eyedropper tool worked correctly:

If I applied a new font with Eyedropper, only the English letters would switch to the sampled font.

The Chinese characters would remain in their original font, preventing missing glyphs or “tofu” boxes.

After the recent update, this behavior has changed:

When I select the entire sentence and use Eyedropper, Illustrator now forces the entire string (including Chinese) into the sampled font.

Since the sampled font usually does not…

  18. Proper UI for text box conversions between auto-width, auto-height, and fixed-height

The current way to convert text boxes feels very cumbersome. There really should be a 3 item toggle (properties panel?) for quick conversions to:

    Single height
    Fixed height
    Auto height

And there shouldn't be an overset text penalty if converting to single height.

  20. Text frame coordinates are different "before undo" and "after redo"

Version: Illustrator 29.7.1 (but occurs in earlier versions as well)

    Problem:
Text frame coordinates become inconsistent after undo and redo.

    Reproduction Steps:
    1. Create point text with two or more paragraphs
    2. Move arbitrarily (required)
    3. Resize (using the dialog of Scale tool)
    4. Undo
    5. Redo
In the above steps, the result of step 5 is different from the result of step 3.

    Desired Result:
Steps 3 and 5 must match
