Bulleted and Numbered lists (like InDesign)
This would be a quick easy way to format a paragraph where each paragraph return becomes a bullet or numbered/lettered list item.
Numbers in numbered lists would be updated automatically when you add or remove paragraphs in the list. Bullets would also flow accordingly when edited.
InDesign has both a "Bulleted List button" and "Numbered List button" in the Control Panel and if these features were added to Illustrator they would be very popular.
182 votesI am happy to share that we have shipped the Bullets and Numbering in 26.4 update for Illustrator. It’s a phased rollout so you may not see 26.4 update yet but it would rollout globally in a day or two.
You can read about this and other new features here ( https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/whats-new/2022-5.html ).

Allow Aligning Stroke to Inside and Outside of Text
Currently strokes can only be aligned to the center of the edge of text (see red stroke in attached example), it would be very helpful to be able to set strokes to inside and especially outside (bottom/green example) of text while still being able to edit it. This is especially useful when you want to make text standout on a busy background. Thank you!

Free Transform of Text does not operate as expected
Free Transform of Text does not operate as expected; Text should rotate with the text box when using free transform - instead the text does not rotate. Having to stop my workflow to find the rotate command and then guess what angle I need to rotate is a time waster.

Text thread marker (out port) is too small
The size of the red controller [+] which allows you to create a new threaded text is so small that is almost impossible to click. I think it could be bigger in order to improve the usability. In fact, many of those options can be bigger.

Prevent "Align paragraph" from moving the text from its position
It's by far the thing that annoys me the most about Illustrator;
when you have your point text already positioned you need it to be aligned to a side and when you press the "align" button in the paragraph options the text moves and aligns to its previous center.
It's a complete time-waster!81 votes -

Support single one line fonts
Hi,
I have tried Illustrator to design name tags to engrave on our engraving machine. Unfortunately single line fonts, which are essential for some engravings, isn't working properly. Bought them from onelinefonts.com and they are working flawless in most other apps, but none of Adobe's so far.

"Hyphenate" not be the default paragraph option
By default, paragraph text is set to hyphenate words that don't fit into the text box. I suggest that the default is to have text not be hyphenated so you can click the box if you want it to be.
No one I know has ever wanted hyphenated words in text, but you have to uncheck the "Hyphenate" box from the Paragraph Palette, it's annoying to have to do that every time I make a new paragraph or paragraph style. (same problem in indesign)
428 votesStarting from the February 2024 release, version 28.3, this option is no longer enabled by default for new documents. If you had hyphenation enabled in an existing document, Ai will respect this.

Grammarly support for Illustrator and InDesign
Incorporating a Grammarly integration as part of the CC membership for Illustrator and InDesign would be INCREDIBLY helpful for many users. Even though these applications aren't word-processors, being able to reveiw documents for style etc. would be a huge bonus in my opinion.
416 votesWe have passed this request along to Grammarly and that while Grammarly thought it would be useful, they’re unable to prioritize it at this time.

Auto Spell Check (red squiggly line like InDesign, Microsoft and other products)
Illustrator REALLY needs to have a feature (that you can turn on or off) for spell check to have the red squiggly line underneath mis-spelled words, like what InDesign, Microsoft, and many other programs have.
443 votesCompleted (Comments Open) · AdminAvinash Singh Kotwal (Principal Product Manager, Adobe Illustrator) respondedI am happy to share that ‘Auto spell-check’ feature has been shipped in the latest version of Illustrator. Here is how to enable/disable it in the latest release : https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/whats-new/2020.html#spellcheck
