  1. Feature Request: Manual Adjustment for Pattern Brush Guide Path

I am a batik illustrator from Indonesia who uses Adobe Illustrator daily for creating intricate and detailed designs. Pattern Brush is one of the key features I rely on to develop seamless and repetitive motifs.

However, I have encountered a significant limitation: when creating a Pattern Brush, Illustrator automatically places the guide path (the green line) exactly at the vertical center of the artwork’s bounding box, without offering any option to reposition it manually.

This becomes a challenge when creating traditional batik designs, where the repeated elements need to follow a specific base line or custom flow rather than being…

  2. Add Fresco Vector Brush technology into Illustrator

Not sure why this still hasn't happened yet, but the vector brush in Fresco is superior to any of the vector brushes Illustrator currently provides for traditional style drawing/inking. Be great to have it for desktop vector drawing. Especially if there aren't' any intentions of bringing Fresco into OSX...

  3. Wacom 6D brushes / better performance and extended settings for calligraphy brushes

It would be nice if there were more options for textures in Ai. The basic brush set “Wacom 6d-Brushes” was an interesting approach. Unfortunately, the brushes are not useful for round shapes. The rendering only divides the projection into straight lines. Basically, I think they are ordinary calligraphy brushes with some custom settings.
I wish that the settings for brushes in general were a bit more advanced and usable.
Opacity and speed are important parameters for intuitive drawing and would make contours so much more vivid...

  4. One Standard Between Adobe Application Tools

In PS I can use the several tool and click and holding Shift key and click on a point on the other end. This will either erase or paint a corresponding line at the other end.

Is this not a feature inside AI?

Appears in AI I have to hold the left mouse key and drag to get the eraser to draw a straight line..

  5. Make calligraphic brush support dashes

"Dashed Line" does not work. At all. Even default brush does not respond. V28.3 on both OSX and Windows.

  6. Brush stroke stability

I've been using Illustrator for a long time now and one of the things that have bugged me over the years is the fact that there's no brush stroke stabilization like the Pulled String Mode in Photopshop or the Rope Brush in Affinity Designer. Ai has evolved so much over the years and it's been used to create freehand vector art since day one, so I cannot understand why this function hasn't been developed yet as of 2024.

Path Smooth or Fidelity are definitely two options to smooth out lines, but that's done once the path has been created. Stabilization,…

  7. Kindly add a bucket tool.

I am facing issues with filling in shapes with paint brush tool, let alone the fact that is very time consuming. Hence, adding a bucket tool would facilitate for all designers and Adobe Illustrator users while coloring. A bucket tool will be a breakthrough.

  8. allow the editing/removal of the "Touch Calligraphic Brush"

    Concise problem statement:

An uneditable, undeletable “Touch Calligraphic Brush” appears at the top of the Brush palette for every single document, including ones that predate touch devices. On my Macbook Air, which is not a touch device, with files that have never been loaded on a touch device.

    Steps to reproduce bug:

    1. Start Illustrator on a computer with no touchscreen.
    2. Load a file or create a new one.
    3. Try to edit the “Touch Calligraphic Brush”.
    4. Try to delete the “Touch Calligraphic Brush”.

    Results:

The Touch Calligraphic Brush stays there at the top of your brushes palette. It refuses to move.…

  9. Respect clip groups in pattern brushes

We can put a rectangle with no-fill and no-stroke under a tile art of a pattern brush to tell Illustrator about the bounds we want to use.
Also, we can clip the tile art with a copy of this rectangle.

When used together, this allows to create a tile which is clipped and uses the bounds we expect... Well, almost — the preview of the tile in the dialog is going to be wrong, but the preview of the brush itself and the way brush behaves is going to be correct.

But without the bottom copy Illustrator won’t respect the…

  10. Resources for Pen tool

Dear Sirs, Architects of Adobe Illustrator.
I am a user of this extraordinary program and I come to suggest that you create a resource so that the Pen tool can be used with the same resources as the Brush tool. That is, allowing us to expand through keyboard shortcuts and also be previously configured with Brush effects. It would make it much easier to create geometric designs, which are done more precisely with the Pen tool, but with predefined Brush strokes.
Thanks in advance for your attention,
    Salvador

  12. Option to permanently add a brush to every opened document

I often use very specific custom made brush in an Operation. Adding panel with library containing this brush does not help - I have to click on it in every document before starting the operation. Option to permanently add a brush to every opened document would be splendid. Or at least to incorporate that into Operation. (no, using paste in operation doesn't work)

  13. Searching brushes and other tools by their name in their tab would be great

I am saving all my brushes and patterns into my Print.ai file (am I supposed to do that?) and now it grew up to 100 MB.
With that many brushes, many of them also similar, a search brush by name feature perhaps would be helpful.

  14. A brush that places elements on anchors

I would like a brush that places its elements along the path but rather than just distributing the elements or scattering them, it places the elements exactly on the anchors of the path. It should not distort the elements.
It would be great if it could have individual elements for the endpoints and for the inner points. More control would be possible if it could allow separate elements for corner points and for smooth points. That way objects could be placed along a path precisely.

Use case: maps, metro lines maps infographics

  15. Edit a Brush like a Symbol, on canvas

To edit a brush stroke, we have to do the following:
    1. Edit the panel
    2. Grad the brush and drag it onto the canvas
    3. Edit
    4. Alt+drag it over the original brush
    5. Think about applying changes to existing art if the brush is already used

Meanwhile, editing a symbol looks like this:
    1. Double-click a symbol
    2. Pass the warning (or disable it once)
    3. Edit a symbol
    4. Double-click on the canvas or hit Escape to finish

Looks like almost the same length... but clicking is faster than dragging and aiming. Why no use the same…

  16. Preview brushes like I can in Photoshop

In Photoshop, when I open brushes, I can see a preview of all my brushes. In Illustrator, if I want to use any brushes, I have to first load a library based on the name of the library. I have dozens of libraries, and often they all have similar-sounding names. Not only is it frustrating to open the same couple of libraries EVERY TIME I open Illustrator, but I have tons of brushes I probably never use because I don't want to individually load 50 different libraries just so I can find a brush that looks like what I need.

  17. Brush Needs Size - Inexcusable Design Flaw

It is absolutely unacceptable that the brush tool does not have a size setting.

It is straightforward to change the path size after drawing, it should be straightforward to set what path size is drawn.

This is not a feature request. This is a BASIC CORE APPLICATION FAILURE. Whoever neglected to add size should be fired and prevented from ever designing an application again.

  18. Paintbrush tool needs default brush setting

Many folks run into an issue with the paintbrush tool where when trying to use it, we get a prohibited symbol with no explanation. First, I recommend troubleshooting tips for this situation, such as: "choose a brush." Simply having a default brush automatically selected would also help avoid frustration. Thanks!

  19. Scale Calligraphic Brush - create new brush option

If you scale a path item with 10 pt stroke at 200%, you will get a path item with a 20 pt stroke. Note, the "Scale Strokes & Effects" option is enabled.

However, if a calligraphic 3 pt brush is scaled 200% (with a default stroke weight of 1pt and "Scale Strokes & Effects" enabled) the result will produce a calligraphic 3 pt brush with a 2pt stroke. Visually the brush stroke will appear bigger but the path item is still connected to the 3 pt brush.

Can we add a feature that will create a new brush based on…

  20. Tiled grids for pattern brushes

Custom brushes are nearly impossible to make as a pattern brush if you don’t want a ridiculous amount of tiling. How about instead of making it tile in a grid, you give the option to have it only tile vertically or horizontally? This would help people who are on fashion and architecture courses, to name only two groups who would benefit from such a feature.
