Dim Control In Isolation Mode
It's extremely difficult to manually work with colors with respect to the complete artwork in isolation mode with the background dimming effect. This should be able to be disabled, while still maintaining group isolation workflow benefits.

Isolate Selected Objects without having to group them
In my work flow, I find I would like to isolate more than one object for something, and not necessarily a whole layer. Currently I have to group two or three objects first to do this. I'd like to see being able to isolate selected objects without having to group them first.

Make Isolate Selected Object work with text (point, area, on path)
Ai does not allow to isolate a text object.
We can workaround it by grouping it first, isolating, selecting all and ungrouping — but why execute these many useless operation instead of one?
Please make it possible.16 votes -
Make Isolate work for components of a compound paths/shapes
Ai allows you to isolate a single path within document structure, but it only applies to groups. If you want to isolate a part of the compound path/shape — you won't be able to do it.
I fully understand that this requires Ai to decide what to do with art that is created at this isolation level, especially not ordinary paths: type, mesh, brushes... But this can be checked, both creation and pasting and dragging.
Speaking of compound shapes it would also mean that the boolean result will change.
Still, a very welcome feature.15 votes -
Isolation mode fading also in Outline mode
Since Outline mode can be (sometimes for me) get displayed with GPU, with antialiasing, I think dimming the art can also be done.
Sure, it should be an option (https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31941823) and work with CPU too.

Isolation tints eyedropper colors from linked assets
When using the eyedropper tool in isolation mode on artwork, the color is taken from the actual artwork even though isolation mode displays it as faded. When doing the same on linked assets, even if they are Illustrator files, the isolation mode fade gets applied to the sampled color. This means that you have to back out of isolation mode and direct-select it to sample the asset, or otherwise have already created a swatch before entering isolation.
I think it would be nicer if Illustrator could treat the sampling of linked assets the same way it does for local artwork…

Isolate selection doesn't get recorded in Actions
Action doesn't record 'Isolate Selection' command.
I tried to conjure up an action that automates entering the isolation mode when nothing is selected — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/35809273.
I can place an object stored in the action, isolate it, select all and delete. It’d be a nice workaround, and it almost works, except for we can’t Isolate Selected Object with an action, we can only Enter Isolation Mode from the Layers panel’s menu — these two commands are deceptively similar, but perform differently...and you can’t run the latter if Layers panel is collapsed or hidden (which is true for me at one…9 votes -
Isolation navigator
The feature I’m looking is an isolation-mode navigator tool that requires minimal clicking and is fast to use. You’d summon it while holding down a hot key, point the mouse at a group and then use hot keys (or the mouse wheel) to go into and out of the group structure.
Isolation mode, as it is now, is essential but clunky. I spend an awful lot of time clicking into, around and back out of isolation mode. It’s enough to cause RSI. The group select tool is useful but doesn't replace isolation mode.

Guides can't be edited in Isolation mode
Literally, you can't isolate a guide, neither with a double clicking or a hotkey. Nothing happens. Please fix this

Have a "Prefer selected object" as a selection preference toggle.
When an object is already selected, allow for a soft isolation by preventing objects on top of the stack (or below and nearby) getting selected or adjusted when using path/point modifiers.
This should be separate to isolation mode as that alters the appearance to objects on the artboard.

Real Isolation Mode
We need a Real Isolate Like in 3D Apps.(3DS Max - C4d )
I mean that when I select an object /s (better with a toggle shortcut key) I can only see it/them. and when I exit Isolation it turns to the main Scene
no need to create unneeded layers for a simple function
Please make this happen.

Shortcut/button for the "Enter isolation mode"-function
After Illustrator changed the place where to put pasted objects (before the objects where put in the selected layer, now the objects are put in a new layer at the top), I use the "Enter Isolations mode"-function a lot, to get the pasted objects the right place. I know there is a button, but it doesn't always show. So I would really like a shortcut for this function. Or make a button in the properties panel. Or both. Please.
2 votesDisabling 'Paste Remembers Layers' in the Layers panel’s flyout menu solved the problem with pasting in place into a selected layer, therefore a specialized hotkey to the layer isolation is no longer required for the user.
If you still need this hotkey — please comment.

Simple navigation in the structure of objects.
Simple navigation in the structure of objects.
Finishing the code of this great idea would be an exit to a new quality of work and management of objects during creation.
- Add a drop-down list to each column in this bar. For example, clicking on layers causes the layer tree to be highlighted in the document stack.
- Editing object / layer / group name from this level.
- Layer menu in this bar.
- Clicking on the first left arrow "Leaving group" simulation of the ESC key operation at this level of work with the object.
Best Regards!

Undo feature do not apply to selected objects
Basically what the title says,
An ability to isolate objects or lock certain layers where the undo feature will not apply to.
There have been a number of times where I start to work on a complex graphic with separate parts to it where I later realize I made a mistake on a piece i did earlier, so instead of saving the project, undo everything, save again and re import the previous saved file or other copy paste methods, we can just select the objects where the undo feature will not apply to, to keep the progress of the work…1 vote
