Drag and drop objects by specific point of choice.
The Smart Guide function is very helpful and helps with the accuracy and precision we need to handle objects. However, would it be possible for us to have an even more accurate tool? A way to drag and drop using a chosen point within a path to move? This way we wouldn't be bond only by the objects borders.

Snap to bounding box of symbol
The bounding box of a symbol has anchorpoints. But these are not snappy, alas.
Please make those snap as any other anchor point.

Perspective Grid Snapping
I would like perspective grid snapping for either the brush and/or the pen tool. Although shapes can snap to perspective this is difficult to line up intersections and feels unintuitive to those of us used to lining up a ruler on pencil and paper. In my mind the snapping would work similar to holding down shift to snap to 45 degree direction, but instead when you hold down which ever buttons enable the perspective snapping, the drawing tool moves in the perspective direction closest to how you move the cursor.

mid grid snap
It would be useful to have the option when grid snapping is enabled, a hint or indicator that allows the user to snap the anchor handles to the middle point of the defined grid unit. A simple override to avoid having to enable/disable the snapping function.

Smart guide show projected extension of another line when hovering
This is a basic feature in CAD programs. When you are using the pen or line tools, you need to be able to hover over the end point of a line, and then snap the cursor to that line's hypothetical extension, so you can start a new line on that extension, so that each point you make can be co-linear with another.
See this video: https://youtu.be/9RgRoOunCDs?t=18 and attached images
I can't say how many times (probably in the tens of thousands) in my career when I have had to drag out a construction line extension just so i can start…

Path-to-path collision snapping
It would be incredibly useful to have, for example, two circles snap to each other not only at the anchor points but also at any point along the paths. This would help a lot when using Shape Builder tool, because at the moment most of the time you either get a tiny gap between the shapes (then the Shape Builder tool doesn't work), or the shapes overlap (then the Shape Builder tool leaves unnecessary anchor points which you have to meticulously fix).

Allow show path on hover with snap to grid enabled
Currently, enabling Snap to Grid doesn't allow the user to see paths when hovering over them. Please make it so that users can hover over a path and see it highlight with snap to grid enabled.

Smart guides to work with artboard
I suggest enabling smart guides when you work with artboards as well, feels like it should help with workflow.
1 voteSmart Guides can be used to align artboards almost the same as other shapes. If you have a feature request or a bug report on the behavior you don’t like about — please upvote an existing one or make a new one.

Smart Guides snapping to the cursor is just making me work much slower
I have been having problems with smart guides after the recent update. It has been snapping my cursor to objects, which I have never wanted and never will want to do that ever. I just want to simply align objects together, and now I have to use the features in the align window to time-consumingly do the jobs. Please remove the snap-to-cursor feature for the sake of my deadlines.

Don't snap to where I'm dragging from.
Even when I turn on snapping, if I drag an object away from it's location, I want the object to not end up in it's old location. Otherwise I would not have started dragging it.
Therefore, stop making the original location available a snap target. As a movement / cardinal direction target, sure. Not as a "return to where you're from" target, this makes no sense.

Snapping unexpectedly disabled when drawing to an Artboard edge
When using the rectangle tool or other drawing tools, you can snap to the edge of an artboard, but you cannot snap to grid lines that intersect with the artboard edge.
This makes things complicated if you are designing relative to the artboard all the time with Snap to Grid or Snap to Pixel enabled. I have to workaround it, snapping inside or outside the artboard edge first, then moving the point an exact increment to match where the artboard edge and grid line intersect.
Notice that in my screen recording, this happens even at the beginning when I first…

Allow to snap to middles of straight and curved segments in paths
So, I created a square, changed the line brush with something else, and then cut the 4 corners with scissor tool. Then, if I select the add anchor point tool, and click in the EXACT MIDDLE of the newly created line (which I cut from the square), it will not allow me to do so. It's just saying you only can add anchor point on the path line.

Option for Smart guides to ignore objects outside isolation
Sometimes you want to isolate certain objects to not mess with everything else. Unfortunatelly, you can't isolate parts of different groups (but that is the other topic—'making isolation more like 'solo' in AE). But enve when you have isoalted something, Smart guides still want to snap to objects other then you want to work with. Sometimes it's fine, yeah, but mostly I want SG to ignore everything else but isolated stuff. Please make a tick somewhere for this.

line snapping to existing line overlapping it.
Currently you can snap an anchor point onto a path or other anchor point. I would like to move a straight path/line, or rotate it, and have it snap onto an existing straight paths angle...right now i`m going tino CTRL Y view to try and align the two lines but its tedious especially when doing this a lot in my design work...

Line extension pop up tool tip
Please fix the smart guide's line extension tool tip when moving points if you are zoomed in. It currently snaps to the opposite end of the line, meaning if you are zoomed in (which you almost have to be because the tool is so finnicky to get it to snap correctly), you have no idea if you are extending the line correctly. A good fix would be to put that dialog closer to the point, if not on the point you are dragging out to extend, vs. the opposite end of the line.

Make Knife tool work with smart guides
Knife is a very freehand tool, but you can make straight cuts, if you hold Alt. Cool. But you can't position these cuts precisely! Nor with a smart guides (at least!) or Snap to grid.
Please improve it!75 votes -
Disable Snap to Path
Can someone please explain to me why you can turn off "snap to grid", "snap to pixel", and "snap to point" off, but you can't turn "snap to path" off. It used to be you could just easily turn off "snap", which would turn all forms of snap off. Now, when I'm trying to adjust points on a path, the anchor handles still snap to path. The only way to get it to not snap to path is to zoom very close in. This is problematic when you can't see your entire curve, because you're zoomed in, and you can't…

Just turn it off and Ai won’t snap handles to paths. -
When snapping to a point please take edges of object into consideration
"When snapping to a point, the snapping alignment depends on the position of the pointer, not the edges of the dragged object." -- A. Illustrator
...but if I could put my pointer exactly where I need it in order to get the edge of an object exactly on the margin, what's the point of the snap to feature? That is a pain in the butt. And really hard to do. I need the option of snapping the edges of the object to the margin. Spart guides do not help.

Ability to toggle snap on/off while moving individual points
I want snap to be on almost all the time. I only need it off to move a point or two.
I would like a single key to hold down that would turn off snap while I move that single point.22 votes
