Library Organization: Sorting / Grouping / Ordering
I can't figure out a way to organize our cloud libraries. We are trying to make one library per client and having everything in chronological order can make it really hard to find icons and other elements that could be grouped by category. If we could drag them around to rearrange that would be great, if we could create little groups or folders of them like swatches that would be even better.
Thank You!

Thank you, Egor. That script helped immensely, on a project that involves comparing a large number of numerical codes on map artwork, against a spreadsheet. Layer order position is irrelevant with this project, just needed them to be reordered to reconcile the list. This worked perfectly.

Yes, in the palette. On the canvas you can usually see what's on top of what. Assuming when the layers are sorted alphabetically in the palette, it doesn't actually change their position. You're right, it's hard to explain, lol!

Do not get the question, Dina.
By looking into Layers or on canvas (if the layout reveals it)? -

I see how this could be useful when there are many layers in a document... I think the challenge here is that layers are usually in a specific order so that one item is on top of another. If the layers are sorted alphabetically, how would you know which layer is actually on top?

Also: Make asset editing easier by allowing one to add graphics to an already created asset without having to recreate it

Hi, I've just installed this and works like a charm! Thanks

This should be a native option, sure, but today we can use a free script by Sergey Osokin, SortLayerItems, to do that:
https://github.com/creold/illustrator-scripts/blob/master/md/Layer.md#sortlayeritems
Works like a clock! I wish you posted this sooner, because sorting these manually is ...ugh! Hope this helps, and thanks for the request! -

Both options would be desirable, but I prefer the ability to organize objects within layers. Currently, I have a document containing numerous objects that should be confined to a single layer, however, arranging them alphabetically would make it easier to find the text object i'm searching. Presently, I manually perform this sorting task.

Do you mean reordering layers themselves, or sorting objects within layers?

Allow to re-order content in Layers in alphabetical order

my favorite part is adding a new item that matches several that are at the bottom of the list and not being able to put it with those and it is sit by itself at the top of the list. We should be able to click on items and organize them by dragging and dropping like the layers panel works.
but i doubt this will ever happen seeing the last comment about this was almost 5 years ago...

Alphabetical or numerical sort would be nice. Date added.
Subfolders would be amazing.

Yeah I feel like Adobe has put TONS of emphasis on something that's woefully underpowered. Can't tell you how many times I want to access an asset without having to create a blank doc for no reason, but that's honestly easier than navigating the Assets web page. Consider creating a version of Bridge, but for graphic designers. And, unlike Bridge, make it useful. Lingo is a great example of an app doing asset management well—having a native application with Adobe integration can only be that much better.

Assets in Libraries can be sorted (e.g. "by date" or "by name") - but if you manage (and share) several libraries, they cannot be sorted.
On the cloud web front end libraries CAN be sorted, but this sorting will not be updated in the application palettes.
For clarity reasons, this feature should be included ASAP.

At some point, please allow adding all elements, graphic styles, brushes, gradient fills, pattern fills, etc. to Libraries. Thank you!

Allow us to organize the library better, e.g., change the order that assets appear in inside a library.

As we have built up thousands of individual assets there is no time in the world to go into the back log and now name them individually - I really need a 'order by visually similar' option within a folder of my CC library!

Will you PLEASE finally add customizability to the grouping/sorting of Library assets?

I would love to be able to create more sub-folders in libraries and be able to move elements with each folder around to help it become more organized

We've got lots of libraries, some of which have thousands of items. Our system is to use one library as a default dumping ground, which we then go through, naming each item with a naming convention and then transferring to whichever library it belongs in. To find stuff, we just search, and it works well like that.
What's more annoying is that there's convenient way to get these files into and out of the cloud en mass, since CC libraries are kept separate from CC files. Also, it would be a lot better if you tag or key-word items rather than just given them really long names to search by, because if they DID let you sync CC files and CC libraries together, you'd then have a mass of files with ridiculously long names...
So yeah, there's definitely room for improvement. I hope they do something because it could be so useful if they decide to implement it properly...
