Import all pages at once from PDF file (that doesn't have illustrator embeded)
I'm working at prepress for 20 years.. and verrrry often i need to open PDF files to correct some mistakes on many pages.. (like add bleed, or move all elements away from edges...
it would be cool if illustrator would allow to open all pages at once for multipage PDF files..
Ok, i know that i can edit page by page... or i can open one page, than save as with different name AI file, than open all other pages and copy content to that first saved AI document... but thats not cool for 8 page brochure..
thank you

I can open multi page pdf in AI but can only edit if I open 1 page at a time. Opening multi page pdf flattens pages on my end. Single page allows edits to be made - files stay vector.

Ashutosh Chaturvedi - My illustrator is completely up to date and this was working for me for awhile, but just randomly it stopped working. At least with certain PDFs it doesn't work. Do you know why?

This might be my favorite addition in this update. I like how you guys put in the link option to increase speed if necessary. This definitely made things easier. Thank you.

Is this still in beta or has it been rolled out yet?

I've needed this many times before, but I am realistic enough to realize it might seriously hinder the speed of the program. Nice to know you guys are looking into a way to make it work, thanks Yogesh!

I have the same issue editing business cards and such. It's easier to edit colors and whatnot in Illustrator but a pain to have to save and close to get tot the next page to edit.

I'm a bit concerned that it will cause Illustrator to crash...

Not sure that requesting a feature to deal with clients who submit bad artwork is the solution. Educate the client. Most printers and repro houses I know would bounce such artwork back as it's a time waster. This seems more appropriate to Acrobat than Ai.

Before I realized this, I would miss artwork sent in from clients. Hope this happens.

@CygnusRK727, thanks for writing back.
I understand the sentiment. In fact, we had a debate over the exact same thing within the team. Unfortunately, in some cases the time taken was longer than acceptable.
This year and next we are focussing heavily on performance of Illustrator. We decided to improve performance of this case and release the feature in next update.
We will keep you posted on this.

Thanks Yogesh. Optimizing the performance to open a multi-page pdf would be great. But speaking for myself, it is not that much of an issue if I have to wait a few minutes to open a multi-page pdf with, say, 50 or more pages with much graphics. I can go get coffee, do other things in prep, etc. It would still save much more time in the long run to simply be able to open the multi-page pdf.
I use a script to open multi-page pdfs and gladly wait as it takes some time to complete the task.

**************,
We were working on supporting - opening of multi-page PDFs. But we realized that it was taking longer than expected to open the files. Since we could only open one page at a time in past, the performance issue was never apparent.
We will be working on optimizing performance for the workflow, and consider it for a later release.
Thanks.

kārlis-jakadels – There is a script called "AI_openMultiPagePDF_CS4_CS5.v1.02" which allows you to open all the pages of a multi-page pdf. I'm not sure I can post it here or I would.
Having said that, I too would like Illustrator to do this "out of the box." I will vote this up.
