Unlike InDesign, this function does go to the folder, but it doesn't select the file.

I assume this is a bug and not how Adobe intends it to work??

Why is it that InDesign can do this if there's some inherent thing blocking this functionality?

In Illustrator, Show in Finder does not highlight and select the file, but Reveal in Bridge does.

@Egor, InDesign and Bridge do have a Reveal in Finder option that selects and highlights the file in the Finder.

But Ai can definitely allow to copy the name of the link...

@Rama -- the feature now finally exists, but it opens a folder and does not highlight the selected file. My source folders have hundreds of files in them. The feature is nonfunctional without revealing the specific file requested.

**edit: and if I have to copy and paste the linked filename to find it using Finder, why is there not a means of easily copying the filename from the Links panel?

It'll soon be 7 years since this was suggested (and I'll bet it's been requested before, too) and has been "under review". Based on other improvements to Illustrator (I'm not talking about pointless rubbish like "using AI to recolour artwork", but ACTUAL improvements that we would all appreciate on an hourly basis), we'll only have another 23 years or so to wait! (I'm looking at you, hyphenation-off-by-default, and distort-transform-not-being-useless).

Please, for god sake add reveal in explorer option when ever i right-click an open document, just like Photoshop

In InDesign, I can locate a link in 5 seconds.
In Illustrator, I have to wait for Bridge to load which isn't quick.

Duh... how about making software more useful for artist with features like this rather than using AI to dumb down our jobs so we get paid less and accountants can feel really creative with one button effects

YES. Nobody dealing with vectors is using Bridge. Bridge is incapable of previewing white graphics and logos as you can't change the preview background (so you can't see your vector artwork...), so in my mind this is a useless feature.

This would be a most welcome addition. Could I also recommend 'Edit in...' like in InDesign, so that we can jump into the relevant program directly, bypassing finder/bridge completely.

Forgot to add centering commands like indesign, right now have to manually select the object and the picture and align, or shrink object down by eye.

Would be good in general if links worked more like indesign, as in low/med/high res jpeg preview and faster rendering time, and not clogging up the file by default. (I know you can turn embedding off but the workflow for that is hardly smooth.) In indesign it just works seamlessly. Also cropping of images would could be better handled.
a) Have a picture box feature. (right now I need to create an object, place the image, the create a mask..... much easier to just make a picture box and click place.
b) add functionality would be if you were to do it through the current work flow, and create a mask around a picture it would automatically turn it into a picture box.
c) add cropping handles to the box like in indesign.

I use Bridge, so having the Bridge link there is helpful, but I use Finder much more often.

Or maybe by adding a hidden Alt+Click option when clicking the link. That'd be useful.
