This issue is probably happening because the artboard dimensions are not appropriate for raster export (i.e. are in decimals).
If you make x and y values as the whole numbers in the transform panel (not in decimal), then the extra pixels will not be added to the exported image. That is the workaround, and it’s reported that it’s not always the case.
At the same time — Ai knows the size of artboards to be exported and yet it does not deliver the set sizes, which is not fair. The team is going to rethink the algorithm.
An error occurred while saving the comment An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedMight I suggest a temporary alert to the user, so that we don't submit final files with the wrong dimensions to suppliers and clients?
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedMaking X and Y values whole numbers doesn't work for me. I still regularly get extra pixels (screenshot attached). There's no reason in my case why Illustrator should be adding that extra pixel.
Anonymous supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedIllustrator frequently exports artboards with extra pixels.
I always ensure the artboards are positioned on whole pixel values (check the screenshot), yet this doesn't seem to help.
Note that this happens when you use the Export For Screens option, but not if you use the Legacy save for web.

Hi,
Thanks for the information provided to the Illustrator team.
We are able to reproduce this issue at our end and the engineering team is currently isolating this issue further to get to the root cause. With Best Regards,

As per the comment, the random crop is caused by Enable Content Aware Defaults option in Preferences > General. Turn it off disable auto-suggesting weird crops.
As for the white lines, this a separate problem, now merged into separate report:

Please upvote it.
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedI'm having issues with white lines as well, at 72dpi.
Furthermore, when you crop an image, it shows you what the image dimensions post-crop are going to be. These dimensions are inaccurate to the final image size.
Screen recording attached.

Furthermore, when I crop images, often there's a pixel of white left on the edge, even when my image overflows or hits the edge of the artboard perfectly before cropping.

It’s dangerous to call things Smart... When they behave dumb, the name sound like an insult. Sadly, this is the case.
Please provide more specific cases, with video proofs, ask you colleagues to share and vote, to move this further. This is the way to force changes to things that are broken — be vocal and persistent. Thank you all and let’s hope we get heard.
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedAny luck on this? One year since my last comment, smart guides are still broken. Video attached.
Seriously, this is classic Adobe poor form that goes unfixed for years.
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedHow are we going on this? Are we 'smartifying' the smart guides yet?
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedHere you go Egor. Here's an almost blank Illustrator document showing guides fail epically.
If you take note, you'll see that the first artboard is 1080x1080px and is perfeclty placed to the pixel.
Even though Illustrator tells me the new artboard I'm creating is snapped to the top and bottom of the other artboard, it's a completely different size and isn't aligned to either top or bottom.
This is a compounding issue due to the bug that adds extra pixels when exporting, so things quickly become a mess at no fault to the user.
You can also see in the video that nothing I could have done would make the artboard snap. It basically refuses to snap.
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedHi Egor,
I believe I know what the issue is, and I have a file that I can show you.
However, as I work professionally I can't share the file here. It's private and I don't have rights to share. In summary however, I believe the issue is as follows:
- The 'reach' of snapping in Illustrator is too broad. I believe smart guides often try to snap to anchors on other artboards.
- The indicator to show that you're snapping to the artboard is not clear enough. It should be a different colour to show that you're snapping to the artboard edge instead of an anchor or other object that you can't see. Currently every snap indicator is pink
- In fact, this would also come in handy when aligning to the artboard center or aligning artboards with each other. Often I see a centre pink smart guide line and think 'oh great I'm aligning to centre', but actually illustrator has picked some random anchor point on some complex shape to snap to.
- Perhaps snapping should be separated out (have a separate Snap to Artboard function)
OR
- Prioritise snapping to the artboard edge when within 5 pixels or so.What I've found is that often when Illustrator is telling me that my object is placed against the edge, it's actually snapping to some other random object.
You have to understand the communities frustrations. It's not always easy to capture this stuff, and we often can't share files due to sensitivity.
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commented+1. AI smart guides are the worst. Unline InDesigns which are amazing.
If they think they've fixed the issue, I think they need to rethink how smart guides are handled in Illustrator. I'm on version 26 and it still SUCKS.Anonymous supported this idea · -

I am closing the ticket due to lack of response.
Please get in touch with us at sharewithai@adobe.com or any of the other support channels – helpx.adobe.com/support.html . Please give a reference to this post so that we can identify you.
Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedHere's a video showing this happen on 29 May 2023.
First artboard reverts back to previous name. This happens without fail every time! This is a fresh install of Illustrator too, on MacOS Ventura 13.2.1
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedI've emailed support several times.
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedStill an issue
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedWhen renaming artboards, I often see the first artboard revert to its original title. The first artboard labelled 'Zere' was renamed to 'O2' like all the other artboards, but reverted once I got to the end...
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedI emailed Adobe support using the email provided above and have offered my computer to test so this ticket should be re-opened if it hasn't been already
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedThis is supposed to be in Illustrator (Desktop)
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedI have this happen as well. Also, sometimes Art-board names disappear entirely.
Anonymous supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedScreenshot showing an artboard that reverted to a previous title at random.
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commented- When renaming Artboards, some Artboards will revert to their original name at random. Especially present when copying and renaming artboards. It's most common for the FIRST artboard to revert to its original name
- Sometimes when creating artboards, the name will be blank
- When renaming artboards, CRTL + Z doesn't work the first time. Yet when you CTRL + Z again, both Undo's are actioned.
- Sometimes, artboards will rename successfully, only for them to revert later or export for screens with the wrong names.
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedI'm seeing this behaviour also

An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedYes, we need this. How about smart artboard frames, that change colour to contrast with large objects on the artboard?

Illustrator allows option to Simulate Color Paper, whereby user can pick any color as the background. (This is accessible from File -> Document Setup)
Does this help solve the described concerns?

An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedExport for Screens isn't suitable for anything web related because it can't export small file size JPGs, and also doesn't have any customisable compression options nor the ability to create custom presets...

@martin holtorf it's been way longer, like 2-3+ years. Do the right thing, cancel your Adobe Sunscription and switch to Affinity like I did!
