Increase Bleed Limit!
1 inch bleed limit may seem extreme for offset (usually 1/8") or packaging (1/4"), but people use Illustrator for all kinds of projects! Textile vendors want much more. The limit makes proofing annoying because we need to get approvals without bleed.

@melissa
here what I can do with Ai 24.1.1 -
Matty Mosc commented
It only works when creating new document, it is still not possible to change it on an existing one.

I see people stating this is available on v24. Just upgraded to v24.1 and I'm not able to increase the bleed beyond 1". What am I missing?

Looks like there is a bug where you're unable to add bleed above 1" to existing documents. Can this get fixed. It's a bit tedious to have to make a new document and move over everything just to get bleed above 1" added in.

FINALLY! Art board bleeds can be set for more than 1"!! BUT..... It's still not right. I just don't get how your developers/programers can be as incompetent as they are. Here's the new problem..
When you are first setting up an art board under "new document" you can set the bleed limit to 24". But if you set the art board up without bleed and go through "Properties" to adjust... THE LIMIT IS STILL 1" INCH!!!! -

@Malcolm
Yes. Only on version 24 -

Tried on Mac with v23.1.1 no change. Is this part of v24?

@Jeron
I've just tried.
- create a new document with 2000 mm of bleed : ok, but not, I found that on next new document the max is 609.6 mm.
- modify a document (the previous one) : 25.4 mm max in document settings - not workingI do not have time to check in the beta website if anyone test the functionality ...
But we can now work with more than 25.4 on a new document. We are not able to edit it. :-(

@Paul I know it still says planned but this has been added to the latest version of illustrator so if you update should be good to go.

It's been MORE THAN A YEAR since your response that this is planned. WHEN is it going to HAPPEN?!!?!?!

Alex commented
I want to add in my vote for making this addition ASAP. It's truly bizarre that this update hasn't happened yet. A 1" bleed is not sufficient for the variety of design needs today.

Please do this before the anniversary date of your post musing on the scope of the feature request. Just do it.

seriously. trying to explain to production that the bleed is built into the artboard and why is a lot more confusing to get across than i would've thought. Yes, I could have placed it into an InDesign file since it goes up to 6" but: a) yet another step b) would start the whole production process over to send different files & c) you just should NOT have to bounce around programs for something as "simple" as this.

Wow this has been coming for a while. Can we get a date?

Soo when is the "planned" feature going to happen? I'm sure I'm not alone—I have several client projects that are several feet long and really could use a 2-5in bleed feature rather than changing the entire artboard size and explaining to print companies why i have to makeshift bleed and cut lines.

So, for the majority of the world that would be 609.6 mm. Come on Merca, catch up with the rest of the world and go metric. Please hurry this through. Can't understand why it's taken sooooooo long.

I need 200mm bleed for vinyl *wraps*… Please respect just how many comments are here. I have no way of artworking this for print.

Yes, 2 in bleed is a common requirement in the events industry. Backdrops, banners, murals, you name it. Please increase or remove the bleed limit soon...

So many requests, it's 2019 and they have already invented the self-lacing sneakers from "Back to the Future" but the bleed in AI is still stuck at 1" max. Think we should all just design in MS Paint....
