I'm back to Illustrator after almost five years. I can't believe this and adding padding are still not available options.

"That's kind of absurd reasoning" - I agree, but I can't for the life of me think of another reason why AI, after decades of development, doesn't have such a simple and useful feature, when almost any other vector graphics application does. ****, I've even used video editing and FX software that lets you vertically align text in regions.

That's kind of absurd reasoning. There are many reasons to use InDesign over Illustrator. Text alignment won't change that. For layout jobs, Illustrator is no match for InDesign. Hopefully they will come to their senses before the other software companies take over the industry.

Affinity is a better solution to vector edition.

I think that Adobe wants to be the solution for everything..... 'Do not bite off more than you can chew' ....

Adobe haven't responded to this as I presume their strategy is to keep some features unique to InDesign to try and make people use that for text layout work. However there are some jobs, like drawing infographics, charts & diagrams, in which vertically text alignment can be pretty critical, and which are much better suited to AI than ID. I've given up caring about this though - I'm moving to Corel & Affinity and just keeping AI to accept files from other sources.

Make textbox vertical alignment work like it does in InDesign.

I create wayfinding signage for architectural installations and sometimes we need to align the text to the bottom of an icon or graphic, not just the top, or centered.

Make text boxes work more like they do in I Design with vertical alignment please!

For a long time it's quite easy in InDesign to center text in a textbox horizontally ánd vertically. Is it possible to implement that for Illustrator as well?

Autosize doesn't work when you need uniformity in your variable data. Example: I recently made 500 location versions of a logo that have to be identical in type size. I had to sift through my data and do separate batching by how many characters long the words were. HASSLE. And it cost the client more money.

A simple workaround is to autosize the textbox and align it with a rectangle.
autosize textbox: @Type @Area Type Options ^autosize

Here's what made me realize it is BADLY needed...
Localized text in variable data workflows.

I have text that in some languages is 3 lines, and in others just 2. I cannot get the text aligned center without this option.

Insane that it isn't available. If POWERPOINT has it as a textbox option, Illustrator really should.

That's a must have for a product like illustrator. I was sodisappointed when I figured out this feature was not available.

I just took the plunge and bought all three Affinity applications, on sale now for only AU$62.99 each, perpetual licences and easy to learn as they're not too dissimilar to the Adobe apps. Vertical alignment is now mine! (and admittedly quite a few application bugs, but I'm allowing them some leeway as I've already received one bug-fix update after a week)

I want this feature so badly. It is absolutely essential for horizontally aligning text of various sizes in neighboring text boxes!! Adobe, please add this! The most basic text editors have this feature, and for world-class design software not to have it is just insane!
