Blending live pie (ellipses) treats them as path and not like live shapes
Make an ellipse and set pie end angle to 5 degrees (press Invert button if neede to get thin pie)
Duplicate and offset it and change en angle to 270 (doesn't really matter).
Blend these. AI won't blend their shape properties, but blend them as paths. What's use of live shapes then, if AI can't handle them with basic tools?11 votes -
Ability to change starting point for closed path
Currently the only option is to cut and the path or redraw the path completely if the starting anchor is in the wrong place. For straight edges, such as a square or even a rectangle it's easy to work around, but when it's a curved edge it is difficult to replicate the same curve with the cut method. Could easily add this feature to stoke effect so that the starting point can be adjusted with a click on the anchor. Or have left and right arrows to move it to a different starting anchor (although that wouldn't work on things…

Better join segments tool
There are instances (mostly when cleaning up DXF files from 3D models) were there are a lot of broken line segments. It would be great if there were options for the join command to join multiple line segments that are within a certain distance and tangent angle to each other. It would then take multiple separate line segments and join them into one clean and continuous line.
Maybe there would also be a preview ability that would recolor\highlight the lines that would be joined and then allow you to adjust the distance and angle until you get the desired result.

Add CAD path creation/modification tools
Some wonderful tools that would help are Trim, Extend, and Corner tools.
Trim allows you to stop a line at another line. So if you drew a + you could trim the top to the - and make a T.
Extend does the opposite. It makes a line longer until it hits a target line. It turns |- into a T (rotated).
Corner tool trims or extends two lines as need to make a corner. |- becomes L by clicking both lines.
Look to AutoCad or Revit for examples.

More visual feedback for the Eyedropper
The Eyedropper tool has several cursors (it’s almost impossible to find any explanations about at helpx.adobe.com), displaying different states:
- a filled pipette for when you click,
- a pipette with square below to indicate a screen sampling,
- an additional T to indicate a text below,
- a reverse filled pipette to indicate apply mode.
However, some modes are missing. When you have smart guides disabled (for any reason), you can’t tell which object the tool will pick from, what attribute or will you miss completely by a pixel. The Shift mode is not covered too. So we need…

Image Trace results have deteriorated over the years, detail is lost and line work looks terrible!
I’m a full time illustrator and have been using Adobe Illustrator since the launch of CS - so it’s been years :) I LOVE the app, in fact it’s how I make my living as an illustrator and the app features have contributed to my style development and workflow.
Which brings me to the feedback I’d like to give regarding the Image Trace tool. My illustration style is a mixture of hand crafted, grungy texture and flat colour. I achieve this by creating pencil on paper line work, scanning then I image trace in Adobe Illustrator to vectorize. BUT, I…

Lock angle of bezier handles (hotkey-selectable)
When drawing with the pen tool, it would be very helpful to be able to lock the angle of the control point handles when drawing the next segment.
The function works well for the existing fixed snap angles (90-deg, etc) but I would love to have a hotkey to temporarily lock the existing (arbitrary) angle of the point as I draw the next segment.
Currently, I find it too easy to destroy a perfectly placed curve while drawing the next segment--particularly when the in- and out- handles have dramatically different lengths.

Make Pen and Scissors tools prioritize editing to a selected path
Am I missing something? can the pen and scissors tool prioritize editing to the selected path? If I'm editing a path behind another path it is often a complete guessing game when I'm trying to edit a selected path if it is anywhere near the top path.
I just don't understand why anybody would find it useful that a selected path would be ignored for another overlapping path when using the pen or scissors tools10 votes -
Chart tool: overriding value axis
The chart tool breaks when trying to override the axis values when the data numbers are too large. I think it's for any numbers over 1,000,000 but it might be lower (I have not explored it that much.) Checking the override tick box will set the maximum number to 2147483 (maybe that is the number it breaks at) and will skew the chart badly.

Hi Wes,
Thanks for explanation. I got it. This is a feature request, so I am moving this thread to feature request section.
Thanks

flip horizontal and flip vertical from contextual menu
Please add "flip vertical" and "flip horizontal" to the "Transform..." contextual menu pop-up in Illustrator. We have this function in Animate already. It would improve workflow and is something that should be relatively easy to program. Thank you for all your hard work improving Illustrator.

Make Drawing Guides Thicker
With the onset of 4K & 5K monitors, the red dotted guides have become incredibly hard to see. I would like to suggest that the guides be made thicker or that there be a way for me to increase their thicknesses in settings so they can be seen better.

Allow to define circle pie angles in percent, with snapping options
We can create pie angles in degrees, but there are cases when we rather more interested in percentage — pie charts.
Sure, we know math, and can multiple 360° by 0.7 to get 70%, and Ai supports this in its fields...
...but what about the tool? How about an ability to create these directly on canvas — with the snapping to a defined value, like 5% or maybe even 3.5%?9 votes -
Extend path tool
I make carpets, and I alway need min. 10 cm extra design for fitting or if the carpet shrinkts in production. For Illustrator artwork, I need to extend all paths, smoothly or naturally outside the border of the design, without changing the existing design.
What I'd like is the bezier extension as shown in this clip from Vector Scribe plugin:

Same functionalities as shown here in the subscribe tool
https://astutegraphics.com/software/subscribe/
Basically the 'Circle by Points Tool' in Subscribe should be a functionality added to the Ellipse Tool. And the 'Arch by Points Tool' in Subscribe should be a functionality added to the 'Line Segment Tool' in Ai as well. These are common functions in in cad programs and need to be added to Illustrator natively to improve vector building.9 votes -
2D Extrude
I would like a 2D extrude feature. For example...
- Draw a box and add extra points to it.
- Select every other set of two points (i.e. segments) and pull them so they extrude out (instead of bend - or have the choice of bend OR extrude), perpendicular to the line they're on.
Currently I have to duplicate and rotate and then merge... I'd rather like to be able to pull out extruded segments without having to do it manually.
Boom! great idea, thanks for adding my name to the next release with this new tool. If you don't understand this…

Change the cursor for Artboard Tool when a click is going to create a new object-sized artboard
When using Artboard Tool, you can do several things with a simple click.
1. Select an artboard under the cursor
2. Deselect an artboard if there is no artboards under the cursor
3. Create an artboard which size is the same as the object you click — but ONLY if the object is inside of the already selected artboard OR if the place you click is not inside of any artboard. This #3 case prevents deselecting artboards efficiently in cases when you don’t have 'naked canvas' inside of the viewport. And clicking is the only way to deselect artboards, since…

Hitting Escape while creating a shape, an artboard, while using Rotate, Scale, etc., doesn't cancel the process
When we marquee a selection and hit Escape — it gets canceled.
When we hit Escape while dragging out a guide — it gets canceled.
Dragging out a brush on the canvas — works.
Dragging out a swatch to drop it on a gradient or the canvas — works.
Dragging the appearance form the Appearance panel — works.
...and many other casesEscape does NOT work for these cases:
1. Creating a shape, an artboard, an area text
2. Rotating, scaling, shearing, free transforming...
3. Setting up the width with the Width tool
4. Setting up the gradient with the…8 votes -
Curve length, area, perimeter measurements for Dimension tool
We need a way to measure the length of a line regardless of shape, but at minimum we need a way to measure a basic curved line. It would be especially helpful if we could use the measure tool or some time-saving variant to tell if a curve has the desired length. While we can do a workaround now using the Document Info panel, having to isolate lines in order to do so can get really cumbersome and tedious.

Pen tool with measurement
When using pen tool the user can type in a specific measurement in which they would like their line to be instead of having to rely on trying to make it exact using the numbers.
Select pen tool -> Click mouse where you want the pen tool to start -> Type and enter specific measurement wanted -> Pen tool will then create the length -> Click and place in desired location.
I think this would be really beneficial when using the pen tool so you are extremely accurate as being a few millimeters off can cause problems.
