  1. Export for screens missing modern features in order to be useful for responsive images on the web in 2022

It's 2022 and responsive images on the web are well supported across all browsers.

Export for Screens is close to being a good tool for this, but missing out on a few smaller but critical needs for modern responsive web (by priority):
    1. Customize ppi in combination with width / height / scale Formats exports
    2. Support for moderne formats: webp, avif and near future jpegXL

And not really a export only feature, but:
    3. Be able to override antialiasing export settings per layer so text and artwork can be applied different antialiasing during export

    Note: Typical answer to several…

  2. Import SVG fails to load images correctly when linked via a use tag with the source provided in the defs

The import SVG feature does not correctly load images when using a use tag that links to an image in the defs list.

The issues with the import are the following:
    1. The image is incorrectly placed in the clipping group, despite one not being present in the svg.
    2. Two strange clipping path triangles are incorrectly added to the clipping group that completely hides the images.
    3. The art board is also incorrect and not placed around the design.

I created a small svg example that has an image that is linked twice within the design.
    <svg version="1.1" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"…

  3. Do not allow save if multiple versions of same file is open in same computer

Lets say, you have 10 files open when you are working in illustrator. You take a break and come back, and open another instance of the same file say, X (you forgot you have X already open). It does give you a message, that 'the file is already open, do you want to reopen' etc., but you are quick these days to click ok on any dialog box, rather than reading what the message was. Now, you have two instances of the same file open in the same window. This leads to multiple complications:
    1. You save one version. Take…

  5. Save as pdf (range) without ALL canvases being saved in the background

    See here:
    https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/single-page-pdf-from-illustrator-includes-all-canvases-in-document/m-p/12564633#M300920

When I save a range from a multiple-canvas Illustrator document, the pdf in Acrobat shows only the range requested, but when opening the pdf back into Illustrator, ALL canvases from the original document are in the document.

    Example (see also screenshots):
I have a simple Illustrator document with 72 canvases. When I save ONE canvas from that document (Save as PDF, range X, Press quality), the pdf it creates shows to have only one page, but the file size of the pdf is 20+Mb, which for this simple work is exorbitantly high. Upon opening the pdf back…

  6. Auto opening a layered illustrator file in photoshop as layered smart objects.

I create my original illustration files in vector format and in layers in Adobe Illustrator. I then copy each layer to its own artboard and save off an Ai file with the multiple layers converted to artboards, I then manually place these artboards as individual linked smart layers in Photoshop to ensure a non-destructive and combined Vector/Bitmap workflow/solution between Ai and PS.

This is a LOT of manual work each time, Photoshop SHOULD be able to open a simple and layered Illustrator file automatically like this in this non-destructive manner.

Saving off as a layered PSD file from Ai rasterises…

  7. Please return the option to export .dxfs in R13/LT95 version

Please return the option to export .dxfs in R13/LT95 version. This was removed in the 2021 versions of Illustrator and some users need this export option as it is critical in the design and workflow for people who vut and etch with cnc lasers.

    See this forum post please:

    https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/why-can-i-not-export-to-autocad-version-r13-lt95-anymore/m-p/12102215#M278748

  8. Adjust Artboard to image

When opening a pixel image in Ai (to add vector details), Ai does not set the Artboard size to the boundaries of the image. Would be nice when it does.

  9. Export for screens: poor JPG compression and custom JPG settings

The compression and quality when "exporting for screens" in JPG is really bad compared to "Export for web".

    • You cannot customize the quality of the JPG
    • It embeds the color profile in the file, even if you have selected not to do so.

  10. Place all pages of a PDF or AI file as links - same as InDesign

Working at a design studio, we create digital proofs that are set up on a template so our proof pages all look streamlined. We use one working file (.AI) and place that file as linked images into a separate proof file (.AI).

Currently you can only place one page of the AI or PDF file at a time. This can be really tedious when there are a dozen or more images we want to place. We like to maintain the link so that we don't need to export files to relink to the proof file every time we want a…

  11. Export SVG without transforms for use with web / HTML / CSS / JS

When will illustrator support options for exporting SVG without transforms?

We have to manually calculate then set the x,y,width, height attributes on an svg element from a transform: matrix or other transforms.

Attached image: I can't pull this into an html document and animate it because the inline transforms override the css transform I use to position or animate.

  12. Export or save as SVG

Please improve dramatically the save as or export option to SVG file!
As many people have already requested, please simplify the code.
But my request deals with SVG export with indic languages: IT JUST SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK AT ALL, even if all corresponding options (Parameters / Text / Indic and Asian line by line composer) have been selected in Illustrator!!!
I attach two screen shots: the first one is Illustrator screen, the second the SVG result. You will see that the devanagari text is completely different.
For your information, I have already mentionned that problem on or two years…

  13. “Clipping path limit reached for TIFF preview" dialog.

Please add a checkbox with the "Do not show" option in the “Clipping path limit reached for TIFF preview" dialog. This comes up hourly in my company's workflow and the only option given is "Ok". Thank you.

  15. Save export settings for individual files

Please put together all the wishes regarding being able to save export settings for individual files, that means custom settings for means, path, formats, prefix and all!
Otherwise I have to change the settings, which are quite specific, every single time I export from a file.

  16. DWG export to have thumbnail/preview

DWG files exported from Illustrator have no way to be previewed without opening. DWG files saved from AutoCAD have a thumbnail image included in the file that can be shown by Bridge CC or windows file explorer. but illustrator doesn't seem to export these correctly. This makes it impossible to sort through large amounts of DWG files.

  17. Support for "9-slice scaling" in SVG

SVG export breaks "9-slice scaling". This is understandable, since SVG has no such concept built-in.

But SVG can do something like this. Or "4-slice scaling". See, for example:

    https://w3.eleqtriq.com/2014/03/the-holy-grail-of-image-scaling/

I would like to see Illustrator's SVG export offer this feature, given that Illustrator does.

At the very least, if implementation wont happen, or is delayed, please mention that 9-slice scaling is not working in SVG export in the docs and (for bonus points) as a warning in the export dialog box (in cases where the document uses this feature).

  18. Imported SVG path elements - always black fill

I am using the latest version of AI (early 2019).

I notice that SVG path elements often lose their fill color. (They are always black.)

Have not been able to pin down the exact circumstances where this fails, but I am attaching a bare bones file which exhibits the issue clearly.

This file displays perfectly in (e.g.) chrome. There's a red and a green filled path.

But when importing the SVG to AI, the 'red' path loses its fill and becomes black. The green fill is honored on input. I can't see any meaningful difference between the way the fill…

  19. Convert embedded images between different formats/compression schemes...

Currently, if I embed an image as a TIF, the resulting AI file will be larger than if I embed the same image as a JPEG. It would be nice if I could convert embedded images between file formats and have control over compression methods / levels so that I could convert the embedded TIF to something lighter in size such as a JPEG - all from within illustrator.

  20. Add "Crop Image Data to Frames" option to PDF Export (after first adding PDF Export).

InDesign can crop image data to frames, which can significantly shrink PDF files. Why is this long existing InDesign feature missing from Illustrator? Please add it. There is no excuse.
