Remove canvas size limit
Can we please have the possibility to set bigger canvas size to incorporate large sized artwork.
(Please note: This item is NOT for more number of artboards per document)
Dear Users,
We have launched this feature in the latest release of Illustrator, 24.2. I request you to try out this feature and give us your feedback.
Thanks,
Sanjit

ARGH!! Just ran into this stupid issue. Can't make my canvas/artboard any wider. I need it about 325 inches wide. This is so so so dumb. PLEASE FIX THIS. (Here I go, back to the 1800's to get out my graph paper and tape it together......)

Come on Adobe, give us the tools to work in whatever size we want rather than have to work in scales which at the very least causes additional aggravation. It is not a difficult concept, working at 1:1 should be a standard practice. You are falling behind your competitors and the only reason I currently stay with Adobe CC is because of inDesign.

WTF is wrong with adobe, this needs to be fixed asap.

@umar and not to mention all the different bugs related to scaling down 3D Extrude/Revolve objects with bevel profiles.

There are a Huge PROBLEMS if Working with Scale as listed below:
1) If used Raster Image, Calculate its Resolution (Proportional to its Physical Position)
2) If used Repeatable Pattern on Background, and when i am Fully Satisfied with the Pattern Size, i will Sent it for Printer RIP and he will Simply SCALE UP the Pattern 10 TIMES! If i could design at 1:1, i would rather Repeat pattern instead of Scaling.
3) The Allowed Maximum Size is TOO SMALL that we cannot even Design at Scaled Ratio of 1:10 and 1:12, which is usually Required by Printers and Easy to Calculate.

The problem with moving the decimal place is that illustrator's decimal precision decreases by one decimal place as well. This may very well be the "easiest" solution, as those wanting a larger art-board will likely be less concerned with decimal precision. It would be very nice if we could get both: artboard as large as computer resources allow, and no decrease in precision.

WOW!!..the comment to just add a scale feature... (just move the decimal place etc..) is a horrible idea.. what if i don't check this.. what if i open a file that has this scale and i don't realize it.. how much money is it going to cost us because we output a 150 foot proof because oops.. i only wanted 15 inches!!! DO NOT DO THIS WITH SCALING FEATURES.. make illustrator honor a 1 to 1 ratio and give us at least 100x100 foot document.. NO limits is better but lets start somewhere.. 200 inches and change is ridiculous.. Look at what Affinity is doing.. they would be a good company to start copying now that Illustrator is no longer number 1. I use it now only because i have to. I started with Illustrator 88 and it used to be an amazing program.. now its riddled with bugs, crashes and speed bumps. Please go back to the drawing board and rewrite in full 64 bit and give us a program that we can use for production on a day to day business. Need more info!!!! Here you go.. WE ARE ALL ASKING FOR IT.. THERE IS YOUR INFO...

PS: Please add Feet/inches. I hate working on something that os 456 inches. It means nothing to me.

I'm guessing it's because the architecture of Illustrator is fundamentally limited to 64 bit or something like that. I suspect they have programmed themselves into an expensive corner.
In the meantime, I realized that if I work at 10% size, things are super easy. I just move the decimal over one spot in the measurements. It is actually great, and I don't care so much about needing this feature now. Did you know that in the dimensions field you can do calculations? You can enter [ 256.25 /10 ] and it calculates for you. Its awesome.
I bet for really large projects you could even do 1% scale and work on really large stuff.
The cool thing about this approach is that you can still see measurements as they are. 280.5" at 10% scale is 28.5". Notice the decimal is just moved over one place, but the measurement is still easily read.
So here is how Adobe and users could be happy:
Cant the measurement fields for the user simply display differently by moving the decimal over for them if they set up the document at 1/10 or 1/100 scale? Maybe at the beginning of the document setup the user just picks "large format" (1/10), or "extra large format" (1/100) scale, or ludicrous scale (1/1000). Then everyone is happy. All adobe has to do is move the decimal over for humans and they don't have to rewrite hardly any code.

I am unsure what is meant by "need more info."
To put it simply customer dissatisfaction will result in loss of customers for Adobe.
Some designers work on transit wraps, billboards, etc. We can not do so efficiently with the artboard limitation and are requesting that the artboard size not be limited. The frustration of this issue not being addressed leads to myself and others moving on to software that will.

The only solution that would solve most of the comments on this thread would be to make Illustrator have an unlimited canvas. A virtual scale would not help. The ability to make a PDF to the same size as the original Illustrator file is also a must for sign makers like ourselves.

if we make file on scale, this file not help full very much for large format printing. Because when your export file in tiff or jpeg and increase in printing software image result damaged.
so we need limit free canvas or at least compatible with 15m x 15 m design

I really waiting for the solution of large file limit. Because I am related with Signage field and I always use corel for above size than 522 cm sign boards.

Remove this limits immediately. This is one of the biggest nonsense in the Illustrator. This should not be in the future requests section. Any limitation is a lack of common sense.

I read somewhere that PDF has a 200" size limit...I don't know if this is correct or not. This still doesn't explain the 227.54 in Illustrator limit tho.. Whats going on with this. When can i make my files 1:1... We need this.

Adobe Team and Yogesh, why is this marked as 'Need More Info'? This is a highly rated feature request with a lot of information to reflect on.
For months users have mentioned why they need custom sizing or unlimited sizing. Big boards. Car wrap designs. Screen workflow mock ups. The list goes on.
Users are also asking for a 1:1 scale. We are not asking for a 1:10 export scale system.
What would it take to mark this as "Add to Backlog"? What information is needed?
