1. AI 2020 V.24 Unknown Error while saving in AI "when a PDF joboption file is present in the adobe PDF preferences folder"

   Just updated to V.24.
   There is a critical bug while saving on an external hard drive or a network storage. The saving process ends with a generic error and the file just DISAPPEAR from the server.

   I'm on MacOS 10.14.6

2. Illustrator Known Issue - Adobe Illustrator crash when run running around 30 minutes on multiple document.

   Hello Adobe Team,
   There is known issue on Page 13 of the below link

   In our process we work around 2000 to 2500 documents in one go. Could you guys address this issue as soon as possible.

   Problem described in this thread arises due to using a single script for processing thousands of files without changing the context.

   A single script is executed in a single context inside the Illustrator application and we don’t have any mechanism to pause the script for changing the context thus allowing the OS to recover the resources used in this context.

   So instead of using a loop inside the script that is being executed inside the Illustrator application, we are suggesting to use CEP extensions and sending the script to Illustrator for execution in the loop. Now the user can create a string that may contain all the commands that need to be done for a single document and can have loops in the CEP extension to create these strings for each document and send a signal to Illustrator for the execution of these commands. In this fashion user can process thousands of documents without restarting the application and resources would be reclaimed by the OS as each script will run in its own context and the user would have more control over the execution and can even apply some timer or pause for automation.

   So for example:

   The following steps can be taken:

   • Create a CEP Extension and in which create an object of CSInterface.
   • Run a for loop for all the files to be processed.
   • Create a string containing all the commands that will be sent to the Illustrator for this particular file.
   • call CSInterface.evalScript for processing of all the commands in string created above.
   • user can even set timeout or sleep using javascript functions (setTimeout, sleep).

3. Error to open/import .DXF format archives in latest update version (error 2067)

   I work in textile area, and we need to import .dxf archives from Audaces program. I've never had problems, until the latest update version. I can't import this extension, it appears the unknown error message number "2067".

   Illustrator uses Autocad library licensed from Autodesk for open/import DXF files. The DXF/DWG files that are showing error during open/import are mal-formed, they are not created adhering to file format specification. Autocad application also does not open these files.

   Illustrator versions 24 and below use to open/import these files as the library used was a different one and it did not strictly check the dxf/dwg files for conformance. The same library did not had support for the some of the recent OS upgrades, resulting in Illustrator switching to Autocad library from Autodesk for open/import of dxf/dwg files.

   Please report such files to the application that create these files, so that the same can be fixed by them in future release.

4. Export for Screens: pre-export settings for PNG and JPG are same, but post-export JPG resolutions vary

   This is odd. I'm in Illustrator 2020 (24.0.1).

   I have a .ai doc open.

   I go to File->Export->Export for Screens...

   Under the Artboards tab, I set up PNGs and JPG 100s, at various scales using Width as the variable. (See Export for Screens Screenshot)

   I hit the Export Artboard button, and am notified of success.

   I go to Bridge to examine the results. (See Adobe Bridge Screenshot)

   The exported PNGs all have resolutions of 72 ppi (expected, good result).

   The exported JPGs have varying resolutions, from 12 to 72 ppi (unexpected, bad result).

   Why would that happen? Why don't all the JPGs have 72 ppi resolutions, while the PNGs do?

   This is odd. I'm in Illustrator 2020 (24.0.1).

5. AI 22.1 Open single page of multipage PDF now a 2-step process?

   WHY, of WHY did you ***** this up? Formerly you could open a single page of a multipage PDF by simply clicking the arrows under the thumbnail. Once you found the page you want, you click open and there it is. Now, no matter what you do, the Pages Range is stuck on 1-1 (of xx). You now have to type in the number. PITA! Please fix this back to the old way.

   With the introduction of multipage PDF open it is not possible for us to tie the range field to the thumbnail previews. It is not possible for us to predict the user intent just based on previews he/she has seen. Here is one example user preview pages 1 to 3 and then decided to open pages 1-2.

6. "To preserve appearance some text has been outlined"

   I recently sent a PDF file generated from InDesign (CC2018) to a book manufacturer from which they were to make a brass die to stamp a binding, just as I have done for about twenty years. A proof was sent back to me in which the 1/2pt rules had thickened to about 3pts and some of the type had thickened, too. I complained and they sent me another proof, in which the rules were ok, but most of the type had thickened.

   I wondered how this could have happened, so I did some experiments. I opened the PDF in Illustrator (CC2018), thinking they might be turning the art into outlines. In Illustrator, the file opened with a dialog box "To preserve appearance some text has been outlined," which offered no way to opt out. Sure enough, the artwork (type and rules) had thickened as it did in the proofs.

   Why does Illustrator do this? It doesn't preserve the appearance of anything, it only ruins the art. This is clearly a glitch. To fix it, I had to edit the file extensively. In the least, there should be a way to opt out of this "feature."

   PDF is intended for Output and Document Sharing. In any workflow, if the content is to be modified without any data loss then the native file format should be used for editing. InDesign document or Illustrator document should be used to edit the content.

8. Bring back progress bar for saving AI files

   Can we please go back to having a progress bar when saving an AI file? The saving in the background is nice, but the saving percentage text just doesn't do it for me, plus, the pop-up dialog box that comes up while saving is very annoying.

   In order to get previous behavior, please disable ‘Save in Background’ checkbox (Preferences > File Handling & Clipboard > Save in Background).

9. Extremely slow "export for screens" and saving

   I'm suffering a performance reduction in my workflow thanks to the latest update (23.0). I usually have at least five artboards per file project--sometimes up to 20. I used to export designs within 30 seconds and now it takes up to 5 minutes.

   I haven't change anything in terms of hardware or workflow. My exports are slow no matter if the file goes to the server or to my hard drive. This is driving me crazy!

10. Elements NOT Saving

    Trying to understand why certain outlined text wont save and goes missing from .jpgs when exporting... Tried restarting, tried saving the file and bringing it to another window. Just another f***ing error.

11. Cutting out parts of the exported PNG

    Exporting "saveforweb" PNG cut all the logos a few pixels in.

    P.S. ever since CC was released (and started renting out your software) the quality went down, your software doesnt work well with macos catalina. BOOOOOOO Adobe. BOOOOOOOO.

12. Saving AI to EPS produces 2 EPS "clones"

    Standard procedure in my Art Dept. is to save AI files as EPS when going to press. This includes outlining all fonts and embedding all images.

    For at least the last several months, I've often found that when I save an AI file as an EPS, it creates two nearly identical EPS "clones"...meaning they have virtually the same file name but are slightly different in size. An example result for saving "file_name.ai" would be:

    filename.eps
    filename-01.eps

    In all cases, the file without the "-01" would be slightly smaller in size (i.e., 4.3MB compared to 4.6MB), but aside from that they appear to be identical.

    Nevertheless, this shouldn't be happening, yet I can't seem to find a solution. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks.

13. Multiple import of SVG doesn't include filters. Only the first file opened includes filters.

    Situation: I have 2 SVGs I want to import into Ai.

    I import the first one and the SVG Filter Effects are applied as expected.
    Then, when I open the second SVG, Ai just completely ignores the SVG effects.

    It's a simple bug which probably should have a simple fix.
    However, as a developer, I wasted 6 hours of my time not realizing you could have such a trivial bug, one that's so easy to fix, in your software after this long.

    Here's the second bug: "upload files" feature for the bug request doesn't accept SVG. Or maybe it's just a bad feature.

14. SVG - save as in illustrator version 27.0.1 - moving objects off artboard sporadically

    The latest version seems to not be playing well with SVG formats. I have reverted back to 26.5.2 and the issue resolved itself.
    When saving an SVG, everything looks fine. When it is opened again, all the of the objects are sporadically distributed on and off of the artboard. I have never seen this issue before and my save settings are the same.

15. save dialog not appearing when trying to save newly created file windows 10 64bit regarding Illustrator 27.0

    Like many others, when I create a new file, draw something and try to save, save as or export the newly created file, Illustrator does not display the save dialog box.

    I have discovered that if I open up a file created previously, it will save without issues.
    Since discovering this, to get it to save the new content, I needed to open up an old file, delete contents, draw new content and Save As a new name.

    Although this method works, the issues remain, I have now rolled back from the latest update to 26.5.1 and the issue is not in this version.

    Adobe seem content in charging their monthly subs despite being aware of issues, this sucks because in normal life situations, if a product is not fit for purpose, the user is entitled to a refund.

    Adobe should either fix the issues or offer discounts for users who can prove they are suffering provided their system is up to spec.

    I just wish they could get their act together.

16. Files not replacing the original

    when doing 'Save as' with the same file name, illustrator instead adds '-01' to the file name and makes a second copy - it never used to, and isn't of any use as a feature. Please fix.

    Also this 'reporting a bug' page is pants!

17. Export for Screens mess up Blacks when exporting PDFs

    When using Export for Screen to Export PDFs, the blacks are messed up.

    Attached, you see a picture of the two PDFs opened in Edge. The left one is saved with "Save a Copy…” command. Right one is exported with Export for Screens utility.

    All the blacks in AI file are 100K. For some reason, Export for Screen mess them up. The right one.

    Every time I open Illustrator, half of my workday goes in debugging this kind of annoying things. I so much hate Illustrator.

18. SVG doesn't save unless move

    This bug has been around a while - SVG images won't save unless some part of it is moved. If it isn't moved, it treats it like nothing was ever changed and doesn't save, even when closing the tab without saving, the dialog box doesn't appear. This is annoying, since I often change just the colour of an icon, and have to move the icon a bit, just to get it to save.

19. copypaste

    Ich arbeite mit verschiedenen Vektorprogrammen, wobei mir AI als Start und Finalbearbeitungsprogramm dient. Normalerweise öffne ich Dateien in AI und transferiere sie dann per CopyPaste in andere Vektorprogramme, hier z.B. Freehand. Dabei kopiere ich Vektorgrafiken.

    Seit ein paar Tagen funktioniert dies nicht mehr. In der Zielsoftware erscheint statt der Vektorgrafik eine Pixelgrafik. Was muss ich in den Einstellungen ändern, damit ich die Vektoren transferieren kann? Oder muss ich eine ältere Version von AI installieren?
