Bring back progress bar for saving AI files
Can we please go back to having a progress bar when saving an AI file? The saving in the background is nice, but the saving percentage text just doesn't do it for me, plus, the pop-up dialog box that comes up while saving is very annoying.
Hi,
In order to get previous behavior, please disable ‘Save in Background’ checkbox (Preferences > File Handling & Clipboard > Save in Background).
@J Bassell: There are two places where we show the progress of save (see attcahed image). You may read more about background save at: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/saving-artwork.html#background_save

This was a bad UX decision. The former behavior was always noticeable. The progress popup showed exactly when a save process was finished. For some time now I have thought that my files were saved while they were in fact, still being saved; causing me annoyance as I had to wait until the black dot in the upper left hand red window "stoplight" disappeared. I only just noticed the blue circle sweeping at the top right. Where Adobe had trained me for 33 years not to look for UI feedback. I'm just glad I can turn off the currently annoying default behavior.

Yes, this is very disruptive to the workflow. I am not seeing any indication on my end (using the latest version) anywhere of progress, and saving files is slower than it has been is a long time. We need to be able to see where Illustrator is at with progress. Making it evident is a must have, not an annoyance.
Thanks!

Hi, you can turn off background saving in preferences on the file handling tab - save in background
