I am having the same problem. It can be worked around by opening the character panel, but that sort of defeats the purpose of the properties panel.

I agree with Egor. Would love this as a preference and/or a modifier key.
I have needed both versions of this behavior. To illustrate: needing to iterate quickly, I move text around until i like where it sits, but then realize It is aligned incorrectly, which can cause "maintenance" issues down the road. Having the option to auto-reposition the anchor point of text when you change alignment would save some time and frustration.

More importantly, exporting artboards with a rectangle as a"background color" is highly error-prone. I have on multiple occassions exported a file, only to have someone else catch a 1 or 2px white border. I have to tediously adjust the rectangle and re-export. Artboard background colors would make this mistake impossible.
