I have this problem in Illustrator 2024 (v 28) trying to control hyphenations in a German translation.

I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 25.3.1 which is available worldwide now.

Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.

You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html

Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!

Yes, resaving the placed PNG as 8-bit with an sRGB color profile will solve the issue even on PC.

This issue is the placed image. If the PNG was (for example) a screenshot from an iOS device, it's a 16-bit image with Display P3 colorspace.

It's still crazy that Adobe re-introduced a bug that has already been solved.

For anyone still having this issue, or getting it again.
Try resaving your png file as 8bit with simple sRGB colorspace.
The original problem was with png files in 16-bit and the apple Display P3 color profile. Aka screenshots from an iOS device.

Here is more documentation on the issue.

    https://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/78954/why-are-the-colors-of-certain-png-files-getting-distorted-when-opened-in-illustr/136816#136816

I can confirm the issue is still there, and that its isolated to MacOS.

The issue is with the Display P3 color profile and 16bit color depth.
