Please accept my sincere apology for the inconvenience. Please get in touch with us at any of the other support channels – https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html . Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.
Thanks & Regards,
Raghuveer SinghAn error occurred while saving the comment Sniles commentedI also have had issues with both Align and Distribute objects. I see this problem goes back a while. I was enjoying the stability of CS4 before getting a new Mac and being forced into the expense and instability of your CC subscription. I am NOT happy with you, Adobe! Please worry less about features and more about stability and not breaking existing features that are important! BTW - I am indeed on Mac Catalina OS, not Windows... so apparently this issue is platform-independent.

Hi Everyone,
We have fixed this bug in our latest release – v 24.2.1 which is available worldwide now. Thanks for your patience on this.
Please note that after upgrading you might still see that Align To sets itself to Align to Key Object. If you see this, please manually set the Align To to the required setting, and this reported bug will not happen again. You’ll need to this one time only.
The reason Align To might get set to Key Object after update is because Ai remembers your last Align To on subsequent launches as well. So, if your last Align To was Key Object before quitting/upgrading, after first multi-selection, it will set itself to Key Object. After you manually change it one-time, it will work fine.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html

I need the old way: select some objects, and distribute equally in distance between the tops or centers or sides. This totally does not work any more - and has not worked for several releases. I also have a new thing, where an illustration will just sort of lock up. I have to quit Illustrator, and re-open it - then it's fine. For a while.

This is getting super old. Space/Align has not worked properly for several months, over several updates, and I really rely on these functions! Example: select five identical objects. I want them spaced evenly apart between the two end ones. I used to be able to simply select the five, click on the "space between objects" icon in the palette, by vertical or horizontal, aligning to left, center, or right, and the objects would be perfectly spaced out. Now, they either space out end to end, or land one on top of the other. The only way I can do this now is to measure the distance and do the math. (Fortunately, I am old, and still know how to do math.) Mac OS Catalina 10.15.6, AI 24.2.3. Hating being forced into Creative Cloud more and more. Honestly - I did not have so much trouble with CS4. When you went to these constantly changing cloud subscriptions, you broke stuff that was fine before. I have said it before and I will say it again: I don't need new features all the time. I need speed, stability, and for existing features to continue to work. Adobe PLEASE address this one?
