Dear Users,
We have launched this feature in the latest release of Illustrator, 24.2. I request you to try out this feature and give us your feedback.
Thanks,

The only reason I can think that this hasn't already been fixed is that there is some fundamental problem with the way Illustrator stores information. Maybe they didn't allow enough bits per dimension and can't fix it without starting over.

An error occurred while saving the comment Pt. commentedAbsolutely. The developers must not use a Magic Mouse or they would have never left this feature as-is.
It seems to respond to both left/right and up/down scrolling. Even slightly rolling your finger as you try and click using a Magic Mouse erroneously triggers it. Even more frustrating is that it seems to happen even when you're only hovering over the up/down buttons, not even the text input field.
I used to use Magic Prefs to solve this issue but it is no longer supported.

You can assign your own custom shortcut to this command via Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts. Toggle 'Tools' to 'Menu commands' from the dropdown and search for 'Trim View'.

I really want to set it to W, so that it is the same as InDesign but for some (presumably bad and long forgotten) reason, menu commands have to be accompanied by the Command key.Pt. supported this idea · -

Thank you all for reporting this issue and providing us your valuable feedback.
What we have found out so far is that this issue can happen in multiple workflows. For clear tracking, validation and closure. We will closing this thread for given below two scenarios which we believe are fixed now:
1)Double click any Ai file to launch Illustrator
2)Placing files in Illustrator via Bridge. For two other scenarios that we know of that can cause this, we have created a separate thread :https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-bugs/suggestions/39220189-ai-displays-the-start-screen-on-opening-the-file-a .If you are encountering the below mentioned issues with latest Version (24.0.1 on Mac and Win), then please vote on newly provided User voice thread and provide Test File via File→Package, Video and steps via dropping email at sharewithai@adobe.com along with this thread link so that we can identify and fix the root cause.

An error occurred while saving the comment Pt. commentedYep, me too. Arbitrary limits like this are totally pointless and make simple signage jobs that much harder.

Hi Everyone,
This functionality has been shipped in June-2021 version of Illustrator.
The option "Paste without Formatting (Alt+Ctrl+V)’ has been added to the ‘Edit’ Menu.
Thanks for your feedback.
An error occurred while saving the comment Pt. commentedI am genuinely angry that this isn't already a thing.

An error occurred while saving the comment Pt. commentedI agree. Furthermore, the height/width boxes in Area Type Options are restricted to 1000px.

Also, when changing the size of a rectangle using the contextual shape width/height controls, the transform origin or "Reference Point" set in the transform panel is ignored. The shape resizes about its centre instead.
