  1. When pasting into photoshop, masked objects should be defined by / constrain mask size. Objects / pixels outside the mask should be ignored.

When pasting a masked object from AI to Photoshop, the size of the object is determined by everything inside and outside of the mask. It should be determined by the size of the mask only. Photoshop interprets the clipboard size based on the entire object size rather than the masked size. The result is that the desired final cropped artwork is pasted pasted too small.

I believe this is a bug or design error. I am pretty sure much (much!) older versions of AI didnt do this.
I dont know of a scenario where the current action would be desirable.…

  2. Make Illustrator understand the Mask component of SVGs.

When importing SVGs into Illustrator, the application does not seem to be able to interpret the native SVG masks used. Attached are two SVGs. One is the original one, and the other which ends with "illustratorfromsvg" is how the SVG looks in illustrator.
You can open both in your web browser. Notice how the hair of the woman in the SVG that's been opened in illustrator does not cover her shoulders. If you look at the original SVG you can see how the hair is supposed to "mask" her shoulders.
I have explained this more thoroughly in this…

  3. The new behavior of art being clipped when it goes over the artboard bounding edge an option to turn on or off in preferences

The clipped art over an artboard edge should be an option to turn on and off. Some users do not want this behavior all the time and if it were a preference, the user can control when it should get clipped.

  4. Allow snapping to objects that are masked out and also make opacity mask objects visible in outline mode

For example, if you draw a large box and place it completely inside a small box so that all four corners of the larger box are masked out, then try to drag a guide it will only snap to the smaller clipping mask, the guides wont snap to the larger box unless you hide or release the clipping mask. Also, as an additional feature I think it would be of benefit if when inside the opacity mask, when you go to outline mode you could then see the objects within the mask.

  5. Pathfinder and clipped objects/draw inside

Right now, when trying to combine via Pathfinder, an object with a draw inside function/clipping mask, with another object - it basically release the clipping masks and combines everything.

When trying to make an outline for characters with a lot of details, it becomes very frustrating.

    Attached is a simple example

  7. Automated clipping with a hotkey based on the selection

Can you make clipping easier and automatic depending on what you have selected perhaps with a key command?

  10. Points of a path being able exist in multiple different layers

If you have every tried to make Celtic knot designs, you know what I am talking about. If points of a path can exist in multiple layers this will make it a lot easier for parts of single paths to go below or above other paths, like a ribbon going through different ribbons, making knots or weaves, without the need to cut parts of paths and shift them to different layers. If you have not tride to make celtic knot designs (or something similar) just imagine if you need to edit the curves this 'chopped-up' path with multiple strokes and…

  11. Masked object within a masked object?

Is it possible to put a masked object (with clip) inside another mask? When I do this - the masked object within gets its clipped path released.

One can apply a new opacity mask to an object that already has it, if you group this object first — then apply a mask to this container. However, if your object is a single group already, Illustrator won’t allow you to create another group (for obvious reason, to prevent an accidental 'group wrapping'). You can workaround it if you group it with a dummy object and delete it after, or use a free Group Anyway script: https://onthehead.com/ais/group003/

  13. Create outlines while the layer is inside a clipping mask

I'm forced to move text layers outside of a clipping mask before I can create outlines and then move them back. A small inconvenience but every small thing counts when designing! Thanks :)

  14. Artboard masks

For me the artboard should mask to the edge of the page or to the bleed, I don't want to see any content beyond the edge of the artboard on the pasteboard. The Trim preview is not really suitable for working as then I can't see the pasteboard.

  15. Feature to remove white background seamlessly

I think this should be a basic option, to remove white bg seamlessly. or any colored background. There are lot of basic apps that does that, why a sophisticated software like this doesnt have that option?

  16. Layer clipping mask (a bit like a paste-inside on steroids!)

I'd like to be able to convert a shape into a layer clipping mask which would then allow sub-layers to be created/converted so that they only remain visible within in the shape's boundary and would subsequently honour any sub-layer effects applied therein.

    Why?

Well at the moment I have to expand any paths with effects applied to layers so that any effect is captured inside the clipping mask. This results in a destructive edit to my artwork and file duplication so that I can revert to the previous editable state when I need to make any changes.

    Background:
    I regularly…

  17. Clipping mask with text

It would be musch easier if text could work as clipping masks without expanding (or apply the create outline command on) them.

    Thanks for listening!
