And it’s done finally, in the latest Beta 28.1.0.100 build.

All NEW documents will now have Hyphenate disabled by default.

To use this feature please delete all files in a specific folder and relaunch Illustrator. This effort is required only for first time, for Illustrator to fetch updated copies of default document profiles.

    • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator 28.1.0 BETA Settings/<language>/New Document Profiles
    • Win: C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 28.1.0 BETA Settings\<language>\x64\New Document Profiles

However, Illustrator won’t make changes to custom presets you have in EXISTING documents though.

To make this option to get turned off for them as well, you’d have to update a [Normal Paragraph Style] in Paragraph Styles panel on your own. To do that:

    1. create a new text object, keep it selected,

    2. press [Normal Paragraph Style] in Paragraph Styles panel,

    3. open Paragraph panel, disable Hyphenate,

    4. open Paragraph Styles panel again, and execute Redefine Paragraph Style command…

Here we go, the first Beta version with the Dimension tool. Still very basic, but more features are to come. Please try the Beta 27.7 (available in the Beta section in your Creative Cloud Desktop application), test the tool and give the team your feedback here in comments. and refer to roadmap to see what will be added later.

It is not as straightforward as it may sound :) We have been working to take advantage of threads and other hardware such as GPU/Video RAM in places where it can make a higher impact. We are prioritizing areas that are slow instead of making a generic change and destabilizing the product. Product stability is the top priority for us and we have been consistently trying to improve it. We want to move with caution and make changes without compromising on the quality. Hope this helps.

This feature is needed especially when working WITHIN Creative Cloud's own sync'd folder. In the past I have been able to set up my two PC's with the exact same drive/path structure so using links in the CC folder would work on both machines, but my new setup requires different drive letters so any time I have to switch a project between computers I have to spend time re-linking. And the assets are not just in one folder but spread across an array of folders corresponding to the link's type. Product Photos, UPC codes, Logos..... If I could just say "Start in Folder X and then all paths are the same" that would be so helpful!
