I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 27.3.1 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.

Illustrator offers two ways for accessing fields:
1. Clicking the caption of a field selects all the content in that field.
2. Clicking the field itself sets the cursor in the exact location of the click.
So anyone can choose the behaviour they prefer.

If you click a caption of a field instead, Illustrator selects all the content in that field. So you can choose which behaviour you need (different users prefer different approaches to that).

An error occurred while saving the comment I have a very narrow method to select objects intersected with a path.
It has a lot of restrictions though: objects to be selected should have flat fills, do not intersect each other, have no strokes, should not be live texts, blends, brushes, etc. Basically, it suits the artwork provided by Rob Hutchings below.
The result is two groups. Some very minor garbage paths get generated sometimes. VFA plugin by Astute Graphics deals with most of them.
Take a look at the GIF attached.
Steps are
1. Lock everything but the art you want to process ant the outlined stroke (the background in the GIF already is locked).
2. Enable both options in Pathfinder panel.
3. Draw paths which intersect objects you want to select (the GIF already has them drawn), and set some stroke weight for them — they have to have some weight, and it is going be used to define intersection.
4. Outline the stroke.
5. Select all.
6. Pathfinder > Add. This will weld the former stroke with the objects.
7. Select the welded piece only — the best way is to pick Group Selection tool and click the piece in the fill, or Isolate the result with a double-click with a Selection tool (requires this option to be toggled in Preferences).
8. To minimize artifacts, apply Offset Path to the piece — just slightly, don’t cover the gaps!
9. Copy the result.
10. Undo Add and delete stroked paths — we won’t need them again.
11. Paste the welded piece in front. Now we are going to use use it as a separator.
12. Select All and clip the object with a welded piece.
13. Hit Merge twice (the second hit often fixes some small errors) — now you have only the objects you wanted to select, as a group.
14. Copy it and Undo to the step 11, when you have the original art and the welded piece in front of it.
15. Select All again and now just hit Merge twice, without clipping.
16. Isolate the result and delete the welded piece — now you have original objects behind the monolith merged with it — delete them.
17. Despite we set options in Pathfinder, we still have objects with no fill and no stroke inside! Select one, use Select Same Fill command and delete them too.
18. Exit the isolation and paste the art we had in the buffer since step 14.
19. Now you have two groups — one with object you wanted to select and those you didn’t want to select.It’s hardly can be automated with actions or scripts — it requires some aiming, but it can be much faster in some cases, than manual selecting objects one by one.

The problem was probably caused by scaling area type objects with another art selected. Illustrator treats these selections differently. Take a look in the comments for a more detailed explanation and demonstration.

I still suspect the problem lies in the behaviour I described below, and it’s a bummer it causes us loose time. From this point of view this bug report can save someone’s sanity and raise a general awareness this problem occurs.

Are you sure the text you copy from InDesign is unscaled in the first place?An error occurred while saving the comment The thing is — if you scale ONLY the area text with the bounding box, the frame gets scaled fine.
If you select an area type object AND something else — it is treated differently.
If you want to scale the frame only, but with something else — you have to select this something and the FRAME.
In the GIF I do this with the Group Selection tool and a VERY precise click.Does it explain the issue?
An error occurred while saving the comment Marco, for some reason your text has different horizontal scale applied to it, a different one for every other portion of the text.
Once you reset is in the Character panel, it works just fine (just Select All and type 100% in the Horizontal Scale field).The other question — how did it happen in the first place?
Can you describe in details how does this design happened to be done?
Was it a template you used? Where did you get the text? Were you scaling some of the columns? — especially this. If yes, what tools did you use to do it? What was selected exactly when you stretched the columns? -

So far there is a plugin that allows that — CoolSelect. It does exactly this and even more. Try it, so you don’t have to wait until the team implements this.

An error occurred while saving the comment So far I can’t reproduce it on Windows. It can be a file- or a machine-specific issue, so please try to give exact steps to reproduce this behaviour, or/and record a short video or a GIF.

An error occurred while saving the comment Jens, please check your buffer settings in Preferences > Clipboard Handling — do you have 'Include SVG code' enabled in the 'On Copy' section? Does changing that make any difference?

An error occurred while saving the comment Andreas, it’s a minor rendering issue.
These seams can appear or disappear, depending on the zoom level you have and the display mode you choose — CPU or GPU.
When it comes to exporting a raster image — these seams just vanish, since your dimensions are precise enough.It happens because of antialiasing math and rounding routines Illustrator does to quickly display stuff on screen. Exporting an image is a more precise operation, but takes more time. A compromise has to be made to ensure efficiency.
How does this affect your workflow though? Why it’s that important for you to not have these seams in every case?

There is a way to do the same exact distortion in Illustrator, using a free MeshTormentor plugin (please see the full instruction in the comments).
However, an easier native way to do it is still welcome (as the general improvements over mesh distortion capabilities) — so please keep voting for this if you want it to happen.

It’s the best way we users have so far to deal with meshes and distortions.Here’s how you can do it.
Take a look as the image and the document attached.1. Install the plugin and restart Illustrator
2. Draw a couple of circles to define your label’s edges
3. Delete invisible segment and join both edges into a single path, keep it selected
5. Open the MeshTormentor panel and click the 'Create one cell mesh' button (a black contour one, third row an third column from the top left corner). In this case it locates 4 points it needs just fine. In other complex cases you might nee to select 4 points you want to make into corners of your mesh manually.
You’ve got a mesh for the envelope!
6. Put the label art under the mesh, select both and run standard Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Top Object command.
7. Sometimes it gets distorted from with an angle you don’t expect — it depends on the direction and the starting node of the mesh. It’s easy to fix — click the 'Rotate or reflect grid direction' button (with a large blue circular arrow, the second one in the bottom row) — in this case once.
Done, you have your label.The plugin is very powerful and allow to do much more than any distortion in Photoshop. It has integrated hints, an online manual, and makes wonders when you master it. Again, it’s free.

An error occurred while saving the comment The most obvious explanation is the wrong document color mode.
'Bright' RGB swatches get duller when File > Document Color Mode is CMYK — because the range of the RGB color space is wider than the CMYK, designed for printing with process color paints.If this is the case — it is expected.
However, I can see quite vivid color swatches in the screenshot.
This can probably mean that swatches were double-converted? It can also be a straight bug, but the circumstances are unknown, therefore it’s tough to even start the investigation...
In any case, this needs more details and the exact steps to replicate the problem.Please comment back.

An error occurred while saving the comment Rick, do you mean you first go to the Artboard Options first instead of the Document Setup first, and it irritates you when you realize you forgot to change local units and now you have to close one dialog and open another?
And therefore you propose to ignore the scope paradigm and allow to change units for the whole document from the local dialog?This will make it even more convoluted than it is now... Remember, there is another 'Units' parameter, a global one, in Preferences: Units, and it changes units across ALL opened document... and there are a lot of users who don’t even know about.
I understand the pain and the frustration it causes for you. Sadly, changing the units can’t be recorded as an action, and local units can’t be changed with a script — only manually...
So building a new habit seems to be the only viable workaround.Anyway, I vote for this, because this mess with the units doesn’t please me and I want it to be changed.

Perhaps it’s just not the tool you need if you hate it so much? Since you are a UX specialist, perhaps Figma just suites you better?If you have some descent requests and reports about the current state of Illustrator — please share them. In other case — why do you bother at all coming here? Your experience could have helped to guide the tool instead of just posting abstract posts.
Please tell more about your thoughts ...just whining is not good enough to change anything :)
