It is now obvious the issue was not fixed fully. The developers are aware of it now. Let’s hope it will be fixed soon enough.
If you have a solid order of steps which reproduce this behavior, share them in comments, because only some machines are affected. Please help the team to isolate it.

We have the fix available in the latest release. Please update Illustrator using Adobe Creative Cloud application to the latest build for version Illustrator CC 22.1.

1.Kindly please provide us your preferences settings
2. Steps to collect Preference Settings
For Win: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 25 Settings
Mac: ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator 25 Settings
3. Copy the Adobe Illustrator 25 Settings and share with us in a zip file on ShareWithAI@adobe.com .Please mention the title of this issue as the subject of the mail.

I am also having this issue after upgrading to OS 10.13 (High Sierra). I am on Illustrator 20.0.1 and am saving my files to the local drive.
I save my files multiple times throughout working on them, but the error only shows up every couple of saves. During this time the file will be open in Illustrator, not being used by any other programs (that I know of). Sometimes I will need to switch to the login screen while away from my desk, but that is the closest I get to actually "closing" the files the whole time I'm working on them.
