There was a bug which allowed to accidentally drag-n-drop tools and insert them into other tools’ subgroups.
It was fixed by introducing a special mode to enable this. No accidents with lost tools should happen. Please comment back if it happens for you in latest versions.

An error occurred while saving the comment Russ commentedI'm having the same issue with v23.
Illustrator v22.1 does not have this problem and allowed this constraint. Not sure why this was omitted.
The only workaround I could find is to manually type the angle in the gradient palette... or revert to v22.1. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Russ commented"... the ability to set different opacity values separately from the colour values" -- this can be done in the gradient palette by selecting the 'bucket' you want to edit and adjusting the color and/or transparency values individually. Please clarify if this is not the solution.
Other than the diamond gradient, a radial is an option, whereas a Reflective gradient is achieved by placing a 'bucket' in/near the center of the gradient itself and making it a different value. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Russ commentedI solve this be creating a custom tools palette, setting up the entire UI like I want (settings and positions), and then saving that .ai file in a convenient spot.
That way, I just need to open that file and then save as...
All the UI stays how I want it. -

The latest Beta 29.2.38 now offers a way to see the distances between a selected object and an object hovered over / edges of an artboard.
- Click on the object you want to measure the distance from
- Press Opt/Alt and hover over the object that you want to measure distance to
- You can also hover over empty area to see the distance from the selected object and the artboard boundaries
Please try it and come back with the feedback.

An error occurred while saving the comment Russ commentedAre you talking about .gif, .png, and .jpg graphic files that are web-ready? These can be generated by exporting.
I do not remember illustrator ever having the ability to export a native .html file - something which Illustrator is not specifically made for. -

As far as I know, the Group command now is available in the context menu for a selection of multiple objects, after an Image Tracing object gets expanded, no difference from any other selection.
If you still have the issue, please comment back.

Most probably caused by having the Snap to Grid option enabled (or other snapping options) in View menu
An error occurred while saving the comment Russ commentedCheck your "snap to" selections/options in the "View" drop-down menu.

An error occurred while saving the comment Russ commentedThis can be done using Title Case.
The Rectangle Tool is there already but may be hidden depending on what you selected in the tool bar. You may have selected another shape, like the circle tool, that occupies the same icon, but is a fly-out menu of alternate shapes.
Now if that is not what you are experiencing, if you want a perfect Square, use shift to constrain, otherwise rectangles are what you will produce, thus to add another button to do what the current one already does would be redundant and a waste of space.
