Allow to choose if the Save dialog should "remember the last file format used / PDF is set as a default filetype when saving a new document
Ever since last update, if i save off a pdf and then create a brand new doc and go to save it, it goes to PDF automatically when it used to always default to .ai so i forget and get to the PDF options and then have to cancel and go back and retype my file name which is just annoying and remembering the last format is not helpful. Almost as annoying as PS trying to export in the last export location instead of the same folder as the .PSD --- NOT HELPFUL

Ai 29.628 votesHi everyone,
In the latest BETA 30.0.21, we’ve improved the ‘Save As’ workflow.
Now, instead of remembering the last used format, the default will always be .AI.
We made this change to ensure that your files are consistently saved in the native Illustrator format, which is the most reliable option for preserving full editability.
Please try out he changes by downloading the latest BETA from the Creative Cloud and let us know if it helps you or not.

Add TIFF format into Export for Screens / Assets dialog
We need a way to export assets (and artboards) as TIFFs using modern Export for Screens / Assets dialog.

Improve Trim Mark Settings When Exporting PDFs
Posted using Illustrator 2025 (29.4)
In the Japanese printing industry, it is common practice to require both corner crop marks and center crop marks when exporting PDFs.
Currently, in Illustrator’s PDF export settings, enabling the “Trim Marks” option only adds corner marks. To include center crop marks, users must also check the “Registration Marks” option, which results in registration marks being added as well.
However, these registration marks are generally disliked and considered unnecessary in Japanese print workflows. There needs to be an option to add only corner and center crop marks without registration marks.
InDesign allows users to…

PDF stroke and fill shape should be imported as a single object, not two separate objects
PDF stroke and fill shape should be imported as a single object. Currently Illustrator parses such shapes as two objects: fill, stroke. This behaviour can be seen when exporting as PDF in Illustrator (without AI editing capabilities) and importing it again.
Note: This seems to be caused by incorrect handling of B and B* PDF operators (fill + stroke in one object).

Show a progress bar for 'export for screens' when it's taking a little while
Maybe it's just me making absolutely pathological files (7k paths that expand to 72k paths and 6k images) but sometimes 'export for screens' can take a while. And I just wanna close the file and get on with my life but I can't until it's done, and I'd like to know how long it's gonna take.
Maybe pop up a progress bar at the top of the screen along with the "this is saving in the background and will close when it's done" grey box? Or maybe just, well, pop up a traditional window with a progress bar that's not…

Add an artboard size prefix in Export for Screens dialog
It would be useful to add the option to also export the size of the artboard

Add 'resource size' to the 'prefix' option in 'export multiple formats'
This prefix is very useful when exporting "multiple resources" and can improve work efficiency.
In addition, it is recommended that the current prefix naming method be separated from the file name using "prefix -" or "prefix _".2 votes -
Allow use of an incrementing variable in naming schema for asset export tab.
if you include a switch variable with symbols like ### I used in screen shot "###_24k♡3D"
makr the actual file names have Suffix

00224k♡3D

Improve Save a Copy as PDF workflow
Description:
When saving a copy as PDF, artboards must be chosen in the first step — before seeing any PDF settings. This is awkward and less flexible.Suggestion:
• Allow artboard selection in the PDF settings step.
• Add a preview (like in Print or artboards/screens in export) so users can easily see and pick the artboards they want. This would make saving PDFs faster, clearer, and more user-friendly.

File > Adobe PDF Presets menu, to have even faster PDF export options
Starting with build 28.6, we can now Export As PDF (thanks to this request: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/32841790)
This works alongside with a pervious lesser known method: Save a Copy, as PDF.
However, exporting a PDF copy to make a quick 'snapshot' still feels slow — we get a dialog and have to choose a preset we want to use.
Meanwhile InDesign offers a handy configurable menu that allows to skip format options and go with a chosen preset, like the attached screenshot shows.
Please make a similar menu.

29.7.1 macOS - PDF Export- Critical Parser failure: Unknown character in content stream
In the macOS version of Adobe Illustrator 29.7.1, there is indeed a critical bug. When exporting files containing a large amount of text that has been converted to outlines, the resulting PDF file becomes corrupted.
To verify the issue, please follow the steps below using the attached file:
1. Launch Adobe Illustrator on macOS (I use Sequoia 15.6)
2. Open the attached .ai file
3. Export the file as a PDF using the “High Quality Print” presetResult: The exported PDF will appear corrupted, just like the attached example. Furthermore, when attempting to open the PDF in Acrobat Pro, the…

Overset Text Warning on Export (like InDesign)
InDesign warns you that the document contains overset text when you export a PDF.
If Illustrator has this option, where does it live?

Please allow currentColor for SVG export
Using SVG in web development frequently requires manual editing of the svg code, to use currentColor instead of a fixed fill or stroke colour.

Please revert to data recovery files being saved as .ai files instead of .aishm files that can't be opened.
Have the data recovery files save as .ai files that you can actually open and work on, rather than .aishm files that are unopenable.
What's the use of data recovery files that you can't open?

Add Option to Save Both Editable and Outlined Text PDFs Simultaneously
As a graphic designer, I often need to provide clients with both editable and outlined text versions of my work. Currently, this requires manually saving two separate files: one with editable text and another with text converted to outlines.
I propose adding a feature in Adobe Illustrator's "Save As PDF" dialog that allows users to check an option like:
"Would you like to save two versions of this file? (Editable text and Outlined text)"
Upon selection, Illustrator would automatically generate:
filename_editable.pdf
filename_outlined.pdf
This enhancement would streamline the workflow, reduce the risk of errors, and save valuable time for designers.

Issue with Hidden Layers Exporting in PNG Format
Hello. I am experiencing an issue with Illustrator when exporting my files to PNG format using artboards. Specifically, the exported PNG includes layers that are hidden and not displayed on the screen at the time of export. This issue does not occur when I export all the artwork or only selected artworks.
Here are the details:
Software Version: 29.3.1
Operating System: Windows 11 24H2
Steps to Reproduce:
Open the Illustrator file.
Hide certain layers.
Export the file to PNG format using artboard and have transparent background.
Check the exported PNG file.
Despite hiding the layers before exporting, they still appear…1 vote -
Support compressing images with WebP when exporting via Adobe PDF Presets
When exporting a PDF, there are several options to compress images: JPEG, JPEG 2000, ZIP. And we can choose the image quality, from Min to Max. To a degree, PDF file sizes can be reduced with these settings, but at a certain point the image quality is too poor for anything meaningful. WebP has incredibly high quality for a low file size, plus it supports an alpha channel.
This feature would automatically benefit Photoshop and InDesign as well, as they share these presets.

Bring back the ability to make Picture Clipping Files!
In illustrator you used to be able to drag any art in illustrator to your desktop and it would create a .pictclipping file.
The file would then be a ready to use symbol or pice of art preserve spot colors, Layers, Grouping, Overprint, Any Attributes! It's simple and easy to use and so easy to share with my coworkers! More importantly, because of how simply it operates, better than the current library/symbols functions. I don't understand why they would phase it out.
It's just not as easy to share standardized art through adobe's available functions. We get some new graphic…

Asset/Object export needs more options
I wanted to export multiple assets/objects with their artboard position and quickly realized they will get cropped and there isn't an option to change that.
The possible naming is also quite limited. Every professional program should have wildcards for naming files.
It boils down to missing batch features. I found a developer who gave it a try once (TomByrne IllustratorSmartExport). That's everything the batch export could and should be and it should be an official inspiration for how the export in Illustrator should look/feel like. Unfortunately it's not longer under development and the core functionality is broken. Still it's a…1 vote -
A feature to copy the element as any file format and be able to paste it on any other software we want.
A feature to copy the elements in Illustrator as format, like if I create an icon I should be able to copy the icon as "SVG" or any other file format and be able to paste in any tool that I suite me. That way I don't have to keep exporting my Icons every time I create one. Figma already have that option. This is valuable for me because I work on multiple tools like Figma and Illustrator and I like to design my own Icons and I don't like Figma for designing my Icons I prefer Illustrator and exporting…
1 voteAccording to the team, SVG copy/paste was disabled by default as many customers see performance issues on Windows 11 (due to clipboard recorder). It can get enabled back again in Preferences > Clipboard Handling > Include SVG Code.
