Make Eyedropper tool usable in Color Picker dialog, which can pick colors from everywhere
Can you make the Color Picker have an Eyedropper tool that can select any color on the screen when you double click the swatch? Similar to Photoshop.
Also have the default in any way you reach a color picker be hexadecimal so it is easier to copy and paste the color to other programs, etc. It defaults in this section, but I cannot select any color on the board while this is open.

Every odd year I use AI I'm shocked that they don't have this basic human right. And wow, they said they're planning to add it in 2023, some decades late but better than never! And that's before we mention the color picker which is deeply confusing whereas every other color picker on earth including in their own products like Photoshop is intuitive and consistent.
Happy to share that we will be adding Eyedropper tool to the Color Picker very soon.

This would be so useful, it's really annoying that the color picker from illustrator doesn't allow the use of the eyedropper
I've wondered if this existed and I just couldn't figure out how to access it because it seems like something that is so practical and useful that it MUST exist, but it looks like that is not the case.
Adobe, how have you developed so many useless features on your applications and haven't yet added a feature that should have existed since the inception of Illustrator?

This seems like a simple and obvious tool to have in Illustrator. There are tons of places where it would be useful, but just in case the developers don't understand why this should have been implemented years ago:
If I want to make a drop shadow and have it match an existing color in the document, if you open up the color too in the Drop Shadow dialog there is NO option to select a color from the document. No eyedropper.
Have had added the color as a swatch beforehand and then pick it from there
Copy and paste the color info (hex maybe) from an eyedropper sampled color outside of the dialogue and then go back into the dialogue and paste it.
Your software always feels stuck in the year 2005. This is just another example.
Additionally, Photoshop has an eyedropper as part of the Color picker. And then Color picker on XD feels the most modern as it lets you sample anything on your screen.
Anyway, please update this feature, and all of the rest of the antiquated features on this dusty piece of software.

Furthermore: when I'm using the color picker for a stroke, why doesn't the color of the layer update until after I close the color picker? This feels extremely outdated and is frustrating
Andrew Hainen commented
Why can I not double click on the Stroke Fill and then use the eyedropper tool to select a color?
Wow, would't that be great!
I checked again. The eyedropper tool disappears once you move the cursor outside of Illustrator.

I really need this.
It's one of the most important tools I need in my workflow. But the current eye dropper tool often doesn't work (for picking colors). Also, it can only pick colors from Illustrator (when it works). It would be great to have a (dedicated) color picker than can pick up colors from anywhere on the screen, no matter what app, desktop or open browser page you want to take the color from.

I support this 100%.

I support this 100%. There must be at least half a dozen different color picker tools in Adobe Illustrator, and they all have inconsistent features.
Some have an eye dropper, some don't.
Some let you enter hex, some don't.
Some use the Photoshop-style color wheel, some don't.
This would be a great feature to add.

I have the same issue - I'm on PC - Windows 10 Pro v 1909

At least you have an eyedropper tool. Mine is COMPLETELY GONE!

I have always been able to drag the eyedropper tool outside of the illustrator window to sample colors - until v25.1
Now, all colors sampled outside are black or greyscale. I am holding shift to override the Appearance setting in Eyedropper options. This is a new bug.
I'm on MacOS 10.15.7
It's a problem on Mac as well now for both Illustrator and Photoshop. Can't do it after the CC 2020 updates. You used to be able to select eyedropper, and while holding it down you could sample out of the program. Extremely useful and time saving! However, something broke with CC 2020, and you can't do this anymore. So now you have to import the design into your workspace and then sample. Very inconvinent. Hope they fix this soon!
Yes ! Please ! Fix this ! Only illustrator behave like this, it doesn't happen in XD or Photoshop. It makes me mad every time I use illustrator.
