Custom presets for Asset Export / Export for Screens
When adding in your own custom sizes and suffixes into the Asset Export panel it would be nice to be able to save these out as a preset for later use.
For my job I have to export the same image into 20-30 different sizes with individual names (suffixes) that don't change. That's why I thought it would be good if you could set up all the file sizes and names once then save it out as preset for later use or to even share with a colleague.
It would speed up the workflow for many people if this was a feature.
Hi Everyone,
This feature has been shipped in Feb 2023 release (version 27.3)

Yes to saving custom presets AND
Saving presets with each file, not as an application wide "Last Used" setting. -

Agree with Marcel on the make your own path and folder name

Also the possibility to make your own path and folder name. for example 'xhdpi' instead of '2x'.

For iOS app icons exports, which requires 26 different sizes, it would be a huge time saver. Spread the word, this deserves more upvotes!

Could it be scripted somehow? (I'm not familiar with scripting in Illustrator.) Saving presets would be best, like with print settings.

Agree. I use a specific set for logo work, to export screens and pdf version on the fly. BUT if I want to export something at another settings, OR save all my artboards to PDF (currently only possible under export for screens) I have to delete or change these settings, and then on my next logo project I have to create them all over again. Time and brain memory intensive!
They should by like pdf preset settings, where we can save sets and recall/load them as needed. This would simplify workflow so we are not re-inventing the wheel every time.

Having the ability to save presets would make life easier for sure, seems like a no brainer. I've posted this before on similar posts.

This export feature seems unchanged in v23, certainly there's no sign of a way to save export options with the file or to an external file (please correct me if I'm wrong).
This is a regular painful issue. I get around it by taking screenshots the export panel so I know what options to re-enter next time I come back to that job. Which is pretty lame.
It's great to see new features being added, but it's the less glamorous issues like this which have an impact on everyday workflow. And it's doubly galling that Export for Screens was a shiny new feature which now seems to be abandoned, and that makes it harder to commit to relying on other new features.
I would urge anyone who upvoted this thread to do so on these other threads:
There are other issues with this feature, such as only the first 24 characters of object and file names being visible, and the export path being global rather than saved with the file. I'd be happy to spend a day with Adobe to thrash through these problems and give whatever help I can to get this feature up to scratch, because it's a royal pain in the butt the way it is now.

@Colin Smith
I second this. The profiles (iOS, Android, custom, etcetera) should be savable so so you can edit them as requirements change.
At the moment of this post there are 10 sizes for iOS and I think 5-7 for Android just for launcher (home screen) icons.

I am baffled that this doesn't have more votes. Does nobody else work on more than one project at a time, or projects with different asset export needs?
Just for our internal brand material I am constantly jumping between different files with different exporting needs. Logos, icons and other properties all have specific custom sets, and having to re-input all the formats, scales and suffixes every time is insanity. I would love just a little [+] button that adds my list of formats to a dropdown, so I can bring them back up again later.
Seems like a simple feature to implement, so fingers crossed!

Please allow settings to saved for each file. I truly don't understand why this isn't the default.

Even if you're on the same device, it only remembers the LAST settings you used, not file-related settings. It means I constantly save with wrong file name to wrong folder.

Not exactly a new format but, since Ai does not have Photoshop's layer comp option and thus the export layer comps to file, it could very easy add an "Export Custom Views" function to the export for screens dialogue box, as a tab next to assets and artboards.
This would immediately add the usability of export layer comps . -

I'm hitting this again today, and it's a real nuisance! I have to keep written notes of the export settings for each job and reset them each time.
Being able to save and import custom settings would be a major help. It would also help to have the settings saved within each file.

In addition to this, PLEASE make this function precisely like the one used in Photoshop. In particular: (1) it needs to be possible to export at <0.5x, which is currently the upper limit. If I am producing assets for iOS @3x for whatever reason -- say, they include an unscalable PNG from PS for instance -- to produce the 1x asset I need to export @0.33x, which you don't allow, but PS does. (2) The default export option should be to export to the SAME FOLDER IN WHICH THE FILE IS SAVED. This ridiculous omission costs me valuable time every time I have to export files in different locations. PS also has this correct. (3) Your defaults should be the default and they should change based on the file I have open, not based on the export options I had selected for the last file I had open, e.g. if I choose to export File A as 1.0x, 0.67x, and the aforementioned impossible 0.33x, the next time I export those options should NOT now be the default for an entirely different file, where most likely 1x, 2x, 3x are appropriate. RANT ENDED.

Export for screens – absolutely brilliant. I set up all my iOS ions sizes (of which there are 14!) using bespoke widths and suffixes and exported the numerous PNGs. The next day, from a different computer, I open the same file and go to Export for screens only to find the bespoke settings do not exist. This is absolutely bonkers in a world where most designers use two computers, why would you design such a great feature where the settings are tied to the device and not the file? I'm sure Adobe has a logical answer to this question, but in truth, I'm not interested. What I want is a way of saving my bespoke settings, so if it is not possible to associate my output settings with a specific file, then at least when I get to the office I an import them.
