  1. Ability to search Glyphs by name

For Symbol/Icon fonts, it's impossible to find a specific icon you're looking for when there are thousands of unicode icons to sort through one by one. If I want to find headphones or something in the Glyphs panel, right now I can't just type "headphones". I have to search through every single icon and can easily pass by it multiple times.

  2. Make the Touch Type Tool work both sides

OK, I'm having this "workflow" issue with the Touch Type Tool.

I like to be able to move 1 character at a time, rotate, move, scale.

But I'm a bit annoyed because SOMETIMES, I'd love it to NOT change the text after. So I usually have to reverse-compensate by making negative kerning on the next character.

    See the image attached :
    1. I justified my type between the 2 green margins.
    -> Nice.
    2. I change the H character (scale/rotation)
-> Getting out of the green margin.
    3. I change the character after (negative kerning)
    -> Back into nice green…

  3. Nested Text Styles

Provide for nested Character and Paragraph Styles in Illustrator. This is a staple in InDesign and would be very helpful in Illustrator. We have standardized on Illustrator for many templates in our workflow. In general, Illustrator is more appropriate, but text editing is a weak spot. This would help.

  4. Path Text when using pattern as a shadow

When using pattern (for example, striped) as a shadow, text should take the angle of the letters.
Currently, this takes over the angle of the pattern.

This is exactly what Illustrator allows already.

In facet, it allows two ways you can toggle, using the 'looking glass' icon at the left of the Font Family input: 'Search Entire Font Name' or 'Search First Word only'.

Perhaps it got changed for you?

Anyway — if it does not behave like it should — please log a separate bug request about this in the proper forums’ section.

  6. Illustrator should prioritize editing the currently focused text over other text objects when placing a cursor or making a text selection

If I have a text box selected and switch to the text tool, why does Illustrator assume I want to select a non-selected text box to edit text in? It should prioritize the selected text box over non-selected text boxes.

  7. Introduce a key thaw allows to choose alternate glyphs from popup with keyboard

While displaying alternate glyphs popup should be an option (vote here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-feature-requests/suggestions/31896742-let-me-turn-off-the-obnoxious-alternate-glyphs-pop), I found this feature very useful.

But every time I want to choose one of proposed glyphs I have to move mya hand to mouse and click desired symbol.

This is nuts. I work with text. Why can I press a key to move focus to this popup, use arrows to navigate to desired one and press Enter to confirm my choice? Why use mouse, when I type?
Or is it a way already and I just can't find it?

    Please, make a way.

  8. Allow text on linked files to be editable (just as it happens in embed)

When I embed a PSD file into Illustrator, it preserves the layers and also the text boxes, allowing me to edit the text. However, if the file is liked, Illustrator converts all text to pixels, which can cause various problems when printing. It would be great to be able to keep the text as vectors, even if not editable. But rasterizing all text just because the file is liked is a big problem.

  9. Paste and match style within illustrator

When copying from one text box with style A, then pasting into a text box with style B -- provide the ability to paste as style B in a single keystroke or step. Currently the default is to keep style A when pasting which requires an additional step to convert the style B.

  10. Oval text box

The ability to click and drag with the type tool to draw an oval text box, as an alternative to the current rectangle text box, would be a good option to have.

  12. I'd like to see the transform values of text be accurate to the text rather than the text box

I'd like to see the transform values of text be accurate to the text rather than the text box. Also so that when I am center aligning text horizontally it will align the actual text and not the text box.

Latest versions of Illustrator have an exact solution for that.

Open Align panel, and enable Align to Glyph Bounds option in the panel’s menu, for point or area text or both.

The bounding box will remain the same, but the text will now align to and by its actual bounds, just like you want.

Please comment back if it works for you.

  13. Adobe Spark / Express "Capitalize & Fit" feature possible in Illustrator?

In Adobe Spark, when creating a Post, there's a nice feature which allows you to create a dynamic text box which capitalises, scales, and fits the words to a text box, as you click and drag the handles of the text box. In Adobe Spark the feature is called "Capitalize & Fit". It would be nice to have something similar in Illustrator.

  14. Remap ⌥← and ⌥→ to jump back/ahead one word

Make ⌥← and ⌥→ default for jumping one word back and forth or respectively mark text when pressing "shift" as used to in Premiere Pro and by default on Mac. Same issue exists in Photoshop where these shortcuts are annoyingly used to adjust kerning.

  15. Scrolling in Type window

In CC 2014, when you selected copy in your document, it would highlight that font in the type window in it's appropriate alphabetical location. You could then scroll up or down alphabetically to get to other fonts. Now, when you select copy in a CC 2018 document, it moves the font to the top of the list and you have to start from the top every time to look for other fonts. I like to scroll through the fonts as I'm designing logos and having to start at the top every time is a pain in the neck!

    Hi,

With AI CC 22.1.0 version there is an option in the “Type Preferences” dialog (MAC menu “Illustrator CC >> Preferences >> Type” and WIN menu “Edit >> Preferences >> Type”) to change the “Number of Recent Fonts” and if you set it to “0” then on selecting the font in the document the font drop down list will highlight the Font Family name at it’s location and not on the top of the list.

Please let us know if you encounter any other issue regarding this.

    With Best Regards,

  16. Installing new fonts don't automatically list in Illustrator unless I restart the App.

    Hi there,

When I activate a new font in my font management app (in this case FontExplorer), the font doesn't show up in Illustrator. I have to quit Illustrator and reopen it in order to see the new font. In the past I didn't have this issue only in recent updates to Illustrator. Is there a way to fix this?

    Thanks so much

  17. Support for ems in leading field of the type panel

When setting the leading, we have the option of "Auto" or setting a specific value in a static unit like px or pt.

It would be great if a dynamic unit like ems (as implemented in CSS) were available to make leading, and I suppose other type attributes, scalable relative to the font size.

For example, if I have a block of text set to 12pt and 1.5em, the leading would be 1.5x the point size, and therefore 18pt. If I were to alter the font size to 20px, the leading would still be 1.5em and therefore would scale automatically…

  18. Group Selection Tool shortcut on Windows

On my Mac the number 3 is a shortcut for Group Selection Tool. I love this feature and use it all the time, but have noticed that it does not work on my Windows PC. I don't know if this is just my computer, or every Windows PC... Would love to have this fixed.

  19. Cannot group Text objects with right-click

    Illustrator CC2018 (22.1)
Windows 10 and Mac OSX High Sierra 10.13.3

When I select two or more Text objects (point, area, etc.), I cannot group them using right-click (it works

It works with other objects, or with Text and other objects, but not when all my selections are only Text objects.

Once grouped (with CMD-G for example), it is possible to ungroup them with right-click, though.

  20. Recent updates have made working with type more difficult

Using type in illustrator used to be a breeze. Now it seems you need near pixel-perfect accuracy to highlight or to select the type box. Often now you will just end up creating a new type box when trying to highlight type already present. Honestly, it worked great before whatever update changed this and now it's somewhat irritating to use. It's not a major issue really, but sometimes the old 'if it isn't broken, don't fix it' advice should be heeded.
