Make Eyedropper tool usable in Color Picker dialog, which can pick colors from everywhere
Can you make the Color Picker have an Eyedropper tool that can select any color on the screen when you double click the swatch? Similar to Photoshop.
Also have the default in any way you reach a color picker be hexadecimal so it is easier to copy and paste the color to other programs, etc. It defaults in this section, but I cannot select any color on the board while this is open.
Latest Beta Build 29.2.34 now adds Eyedropper in the Color Picker dialog to allow us pick colors from artwork.
Please try to test it and comment on if it works as you expect.

It's a problem on Mac as well now for both Illustrator and Photoshop. Can't do it after the CC 2020 updates. You used to be able to select eyedropper, and while holding it down you could sample out of the program. Extremely useful and time saving! However, something broke with CC 2020, and you can't do this anymore. So now you have to import the design into your workspace and then sample. Very inconvinent. Hope they fix this soon!

Sampling colors outside of the Illustrator is impossible on Windows/PC.
When you drag the eyedropper tool to sample a color (for example from an image in another app or web browser) the eyedropper tool stops functioning correctly once outside of Illustrator. Its "sample" turns into pure black or white.
This has been a problem at least since version 23 (maybe older). Just updated to v 24.0.1 (Illustrator 2020), still persists.
The same feature is working perfectly fine in Photoshop.
OS: Windows 10 v1809 64-bit

Just posted this in a specific eyedropper request (https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-feature-requests/suggestions/38115490-eyedropper-tool-usable-during-color-picker) but this one has more support so will add here as well.
When re-writing the code for the eyedropper please look to make it available for selection from within the colour panel (it's already there on the gradient panel), and also the pop up dialog when creating a colour swatch. The reason for the later is so that it is easy to edit a swatch that is already in use in an existing file and replace the colour with something else sampled from elsewhere on the screen, be that inside the Illustrator app, or otherwise.

Agreed!
I'm in the middle of updating a tonne of assets as the company has gone through a rebrand exercise with an entirely different colour palette. My new colours are available to me via CC Libraries, it would streamline the process if when double-clicking on a swatch, I could then sample from the updated library palette to automatically apply the changes to the corresponding artwork by updating the respective swatches.

Color Picker in Illustrator is a nightmare. The whole swatch system is 1990s. When will you guys finally give us a 21century color system we can work with. I agree with previous comments, taking screenshots just to get colors is pathetic. Why can't we FINALLY get a color picker that grabs a color from anywhere? From gradients, swatches, even from other apps. If I have photoshop open and illustrator, I want to be able to grab a color through the picker from the other apps as well. Your current concepts of swatch and cloud library is totally counter intuitive and slows down my work flow immensly. It's way to slow and chaotic. If I can take a sreenshot from any image on my screen and grab color from that, why can't you dev people just implement that by design and finally make our lives in Illustrator a little more easier. I am really disappointed on how backward and unflexible Adobe has become. Where is the innovation? Designers use colors every day, every hour and every minute in the design process. Focus on the essentials first. Thank you. [rant end].

Eyedropper tool should be usable while the color picker is open. This is available in Photoshop but inexplicable absent from AI.

"Under review" since October 2017. Embarrassing.

When click-dragging within the color picker, the color selection resets if the cursor leaves the confines of the Color Picker window. This makes selecting white, for example, an inordinately precise interaction.
Every other color picker I've ever used follows cursor mousement outside the window. Instead of being flexible to imprecision, Illustrator penalizes its users.
It's embarrassing that Adobe can't get the basics right. Please fix this.

Getting color from the outside windows through the dripping tool is not working on new internet browsers. (Chrome, Edge ...)
There is a problem when trying to get color samples through new internet browsers.Sometimes it works on Internet Explorer.
It still works on the desktop and some other windows.
Test system:
Illustrator 2018 64 Bit
Windows 10 64 Bit -

Yes! How can devs ignore something like that??? Right now I'm using Snipping Tool to do cropped screenshots of my work, pasting it to my Ai canvas so I can easily pick colors for my vectors. Ridiculous!
Another sign of who actually uses Adobe's software and who is just developing it blindfolded...

It would be very useful to have an eyedropper able to select any color or tone from the "Color Picker" window itself. The eyedropper should also be able to select not only Illustrator file colors, but also interface colors, or from websites that are visible in the browser, photos opened in Photoshop, or any other open application. Corel Draw is able to perform these functions.

Would be better if you could eyedrop from anywhere on any screen (eg: from an internet browser window).
Cinema4D eyedropper allows this.

Yes, please!
Improve the color picker from the gradient tool.
Also, insert a radial color palette and allow us to use the picker to get colors to insert into the gradient.
I have to admit the current color picker from Illustrator is far the worst tool I ever see.
Obviously was not made by a designer or someone who knows about design or by some one that uses the own Illustrator.
The way the current tools works is absolutely terrible!
