New fonts don't load upon installation
Somehow, the new Adobe Illustrator updates prevent manually installed fonts from loading. These are fonts that aren't available in Adobe Fonts. So I have to install them manually. Because of this, I have to restart Illustrator so I can use the font. There's no problem when activating fonts on Adobe Fonts. Is there a workaround for this?

Font styles applied to portions of text 'slide' / shift positions when area type overflows
Illustrator 29.7.1 on Mac Ventura 13.5.2 (22G91)
I dont' know whether it's related to this current issue, but now I have parts of my text that change appearance when I'm trying to change the Font weight of another part, or when I try to type more text.
The workaround I have found it copy-pasting the text into a new Textbox. But still, this needs to be fixed.

We request that function key conversion be re-enabled for Japanese input.
Due to the latest update release, the conversion shortcuts using function keys during Japanese input have become unavailable. Please restore them so they can be used again.
Conversion shortcut details:
F6 → Hiragana
F7 → Katakana
F8 → Half-width Roman characters
F9 → Full-width Roman charactersIn Japan, conversion shortcuts using function keys are commonly used.
Previously, I could use those keys for Japanese input conversion without having to delete the corresponding Illustrator shortcut settings. However, in the latest version, even deleting the settings doesn't work, which is inconvenient.25 votesReported as fixed in version 30.

縦組みのエリア内文字のスレッドテキストオプション作成が正常に機能しない
macOS 14.7.2
Illustrator ver.29.1Step to reproduce
1.縦組みのエリア内文字を作成する
2.矩形ツールで矩形を描く
3.エリア内文字と矩形を選択してメニュー「書式→スレッドテキストオプション→作成」を選択する。
4.矩形が縦組みエリア内文字に変換されるが、スレッドテキストにはならずエリア内文字のコンテンツがコピーされた状態になる。期待する動作
矩形がスレッドテキストとして正常にリンクされる。実際の結果
スレッドテキスト→作成を実行してもスレッドテキストとならずコンテンツの状態もおかしい。回避策
Tツールを使って手動でスレッドテキストをリンクさせる。縦組みに対するスレッドテキストオプションの挙動は全般おかしく、エリア内文字や矩形の構成や状態によって挙動が異なる場合がありますが、全般的に意図した通りに動作しない。
また、おかしくなったエリア内テキストを手動でリンクさせようとするとIllustratorがクラッシュします。以下のコミュニティ投稿もご参照ください。

テキスト右揃え不具合
OS / Windows 11 Home 23H2
Illustrator 2025（バージョン 29.1）右揃えテキスト中に四分アキ等の文字が含まれ、アキの設定を自動の場合、テキスト右端がズレます。
自動設定ではなく、「アキなし」や個別にアキ量を「二分アキ」等に指定するとこの問題は解消されます。31 votes -
HEX Franklin Variable Font is Not Visible when Editing
I am on a Mac running Illustrator 29.4. I am trying to use the variable OTF version of HEX Franklin, and all Adobe apps do not render the letterforms. When I try to select the variable font in the dropdown, it just defaults back to Myriad or the default typeface.
Other variable fonts work as intended, but specifically, this one is broken. Any possible fix?

特定のテキスト状態のファイルを開くと旧バージョンで保存されたファイルと誤検知される

Illustrator ver.29.0再現手順
１．新規ドキュメントを作成し文字ツールでポイントテキストを入力する。
２．１行目を36pt、２行目を10ptで指定する。
３．Illustrator2020形式でファイルを保存して閉じる。
４．保存したファイルを開くと「このファイルには旧バージョンのIllustratorで作成されたテキストが含まれます……」のダイアログが表示される。変更を確認しても文字のずれなどは見受けられない。期待する結果
ver.29で保存したドキュメントを開く時にダイアログが表示されない。実際の結果
特定のテキスト構成にて旧バージョンで作成されたドキュメントと正確でないダイアログが表示される。

Smart Quotes not working properly
If deselected “Smart Quotes (“‘)“ , upon keying in a prime (') or double prime (") AI still convert the primes to quotes. My work needs to communicate dimensions (eg, 5'–6" × 2'–0") and with First Nation orthographies Mi'kmaw First Nation that require access to these standard characters. This needs to be fixed.

Braille fonts are displaying incorrectly after latest update (29.1)
After doing the latest update, one particular font I use is displaying at a different spacing to what it was in the previous versions of illustrator and is incorrect.
Its a slight difference but I deal with braille on medicine so this is required to be very accurate. I have attached an example but am unable to upload the font, which is a unique braille font for our company.
I have gone back to the previous version of Illustrator for now to resolve this.

Pasting text within text box changes formatting to neighboring type
I am trying to cut and paste type within an area type box. I have the type formatted with mixed attributes. But when I paste the type in its new location all formatting is lost and it assumes the format of the type next to where I paste it.
2 votesThis can happen if the 'Paste text without formatting' option is toggled in Preferences > Clipboard Handling. This would cause Ai to paste text with no formatting, adapting it from the target text.

ver.22以降（確認できた範囲）
macOS 10.13〜11.6.7（確認できた範囲）縦組みのテキストに対して「アキを挿入（右・下）」を設定した上で水平比率を操作するとその比率に応じてアキ量が変化する。
- テキストツールにて縦組みテキストを入力する。
- 文字パネルにて「アキを挿入（右・下）」を設定する。 3.. 当該テキストに対して水平比率を設定する。
- 文字の縦幅は変わらないがアキ量が水平比率に比例して増減する。
期待する結果
縦組みのアキ量は水平比率の影響を受けない。実際の結果
縦組みのアキ量設が水平比率の値によって変化する。回避手段
アキ量設定を使わずにトラッキングによる調整を行う。これは単純なバグです。縦組み時に水平比率を調整しても文字の天地は変化しません。しかし、アキ量（上・左）、アキを挿入（右・下）ともに水平比率の値の影響を受けます。横組みと縦組みを同様に処理していると考えられます。

Type on path not converting to outline
Operating System: OS X Ventura 13.4.1 (c) (22F770820d)
Version of Illustrator: 27.7I have an artwork which includes some type on a path (circle). When I go to send the file to a printer (PDF), I always outline the text as we've had issues in the past. For this artwork I've selected all the content and selected 'Convert to Outline', which has worked fine on all the type except the type on a path elements which just disappeared. I restarted Illustrator, but this didn't solve the problem.

Two selection borders around text
There's a second border around a text in my file when I select it. I cannot find why, what it does and how to remove it. When I create new text, it doesn't appear.

Glitch signs introduced by illustrator when opening a plot created by R
Hi everyone,
I mainly use Illustrators to manually edit plots/figures created by R (a statistical programming tool). R creates PDFs which can (normally) be opened and edited using Illustrator.
However, I recently encountered a strange bug. My plots look just fine when I open the PDFs using Acrobat Reader, but they contain glitch signs instead of points when I open them using Illustrator 2023.
I am attaching a (zoomed in) picture showing these symbols. If anyone can help, that would be very appreciated :).
1 voteThe problem got resolved with changing the font manually in the imported PDF. However, it does not explain the problem completely. Please comment if you have new information on this.

Linked Text Boxes DEFORM
When spreading text over more than one text box, the first one is fine, but any consecutive one deforms so the copy is stretched.
1 voteThe problem was probably caused by scaling area type objects with another art selected. Illustrator treats these selections differently. Take a look in the comments for a more detailed explanation and demonstration.

Can’t select a hyphen at the start of the line
テキストツールで半角英数字で入力したものが、後になって選択できなくなる場合があるようです。
「- 2022 -」と入力したあと、修正しようとしたら、最初の「- 」が選択出来ません。1 voteIllustrator converts a hyphen at the start of the line to a bulleted list, unless the 'Automatic Bulleted and Numbered lists while typing' option (enabled by default) is not turned off.
These converted markers can’t be selected, unless you convert the text back with the dedicated button in the Paragraph menu.
But be warned though, that sometimes disabling the auto-conversion does not work, and hyphen and other characters still force Illustrator to create a list.

Font compatibility issues between different iOS and Illustrator versions
My one system is on Mojave (10.14.6) running 25.4.8 illustrator. The other system is on Monterey (12.3.1) running 26.5 illustrator. And I have downloaded and installed Petrona font from Google fonts on both the systems.
Now when I try to open the file (that was created on Mojave) on Monterey I'm prompted for missing fonts! This compatibility issue is making it very difficult for me to work across my devices.
1 voteAs it turned out, the font was installed as a static weights collection on one system, and as a variable one on the other. Illustrator didn’t provide enough clarification on this.

Change case feature not working.
I am trying to change from uppercase to lowercase. Using 26.5.1 (64-bit) version. I wish I had not upgraded as it crashes every few minutes. Steps: highlight text; Type-->Change case-->lowercase. (In the attached video the Type drop down does not appear in the recording; follow the mouse.
1 voteToni, for some reason you have All Caps option enabled in the Character panel for this particular text selection (or rather the whole type on path object).
Once disabled, Ai stops to force the capitalization for it, and the result of Change Case commands start to be visible.
I agree though it can be tough to discover.
If anyone else happen to have this exact problem — please add your votes, so the team can get data on reviewing this in the future.

和文組版の横組み文字列中の文字回転
Illustratorの日本語組版で、横組み文字列中の1文字を回転すると、文字が上下・左右に暴れて表示されてしまいます。
※縦組み中ではそういった不具合は観察されません。
添付ファイルのように検証してみましたが、その回転の際の原点あるいは挙動原理などがよくわかりません。
例えば、添付ファイル右下のように補正してみても、同じファミリー内でウエイトを変更しただけでもその補正値は変わるようです（平均字面が関係している？）。
和文書体は、（欧文ベールライン位置や平均字面は様々でも）基本的には正方形の仮想ボディに納められていますので、仮想ボディの中心を回転の原点としていただければ、このような補正の手間がなくなるのではないだろうか？ と考えられます。
挙動を変更していただければ、作業者の負担も軽減されるでしょう。なお、このような「横組み文字列中のひと文字を回転する」という処理は、あまり日常的にすることではありませんので、既存ファイルへの影響も軽微なものであろうと考えていますが、変更していただくならば、【その変更を周知】していただくことは大切なことだと申し添えておきます。
