The intended way of setting a default font is to edit document profiles. These files are located in folders like 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 2023\Support Files\Required\New Document Profiles\[language]\' on Windows and 'Macintosh HD > Applications ▸ Adobe Illustrator 2020 > Support Files > New Document Profiles > [language]' on Macs.

Make a copy of the one you want to use someplace else, open it in Illustrator, make your changes, replace the original and then use it when creating a new file.

There are many tutorials on the web about managing these, like this one: https://productivista.com/new-document-profiles-saves-your-default-settings/

However, this way indeed is not the most discoverable. Please continue to vote and leave comments if you want this to be improved.

Bumping this thread, as this is a much needed improvement to Illustrator that will decrease friction at the beginning stages of design and greatly enhance user experience.

    Hello all,

This functionality is now available in all the public builds starting V29.0.

To use this functionality, simply select colors from your swatches panel and click on 'create gradient' in the swatch panel options.

Please try out this feature and let us know what you think!

We are excited to announce that this feature is now available in all the public builds starting V29.1.

The new 'Create swatch info' helps you share color information accurately with others by including color codes.

To use this, just select the colors from the swatch panel and click on 'Create swatch info' in the menu options.

You can customise the size, layout, color codes etc.

Please try out this feature and let us know what you think!

Just to clarify 'Completed' doesn't means the UV is 'Closed', it simply means the UV is available publicly in the GA builds. The UserVoice platform doesn't allow us to have a intermediate status hence the confusion.

We are currently gathering all the user feedbacks and working on a plan to address them.

    Thanks for your understanding.

I don't know what I can say that's not already been said more eloquently, but I'll throw another simple metaphor in the ring.

Say you're a painter. Do you want to open a can of paint each time you need a new color, dip your brush, close it, set it down, get to painting, rinse and repeat? Or would you prefer to have a readily available and highly visible palette?

Not only does it speed up the workflow, but seeing the colors there in a more visible manner can ease the ideation process because you see what tools you have available.

If we had to choose, I'd choose option 2, but having the option for both would be ideal.
