An error occurred while saving the comment And no, it’s not 'normally' :) Normally is how it’s done now. 'Normal' is contextual.
An error occurred while saving the comment So you basically want this like in CorelDraw, right?
These is a separate request about CorelDraw’s Smart Fill style treatment of Shape Builder you might want to look into:
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/41289796-improve-shapebuilder-by-adapting-the-corel-s-smartAs for this particular request... as far as I know, very little users actually need to keep original objects, but this can be an option for sure.
The second part of it though...
Illustrator uses the order of selection to define a key object in once case — when dealing with points, to align a partial point selection to the last selected one, because there is no way to define a key point with a traditional way — a second click into an object with a Selection tool.
But the key objects concept is greatly underutilized in every other routine, including arranging or, like you describe here, in Pathfinder operation. Maybe this can be broadened. Let’s see if it gets more votes. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Do you mean something the third-party PathScribe plugin tool can do — to allow to select several handles at once, and manipulate them on-canvas or numerically in a dedicated panel?

An error occurred while saving the comment Jodi, why do you think the existing Envelope Distort is not good enough for this task?

An error occurred while saving the comment Heather, I know it’s been 5 years since you requested this...
But can you please elaborate on this: as I understand it, you have (or had) your business cards in PDF files (that's why you said 'pages' and not 'artboards', I presume). And the problem you were having was in the way Illustrator used to read back these PDFs, right? Most times it’s 'importing', not 'opening', unless a PDF is made within Ai, with the compatibility option turned on.
But now Illustrator allows to import PDFs as a linked pages, all at once. Doe it really help you with this task? Please reply. -

Huge thanks to Marat. Shame on the guy who works with relinking in Adobe. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Narin, can you elaborate on this?
Please tell what you are doing exactly, what is happening, and what would you like to change specifically. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Yep, does not do it for me. Perhaps a Mac’s only issue... Let’s see if any other reports happen to prove it.
Can you try it also in Beta?An error occurred while saving the comment Can’t confirm it on 27.4.1 on Windows 10.
Henrik, how often does it happen for you? Can you record a short video with the steps that lead to a crash? -

An error occurred while saving the comment And the thing is it worked just fine in older version of Ai, like in version 10, shown in the GIF attached
An error occurred while saving the comment I confirm that.
It is possible to select the paragraph only, but it requires unhealthy amount of fiddling :(AdminEgor Chistyakov (Admin, Adobe Illustrator) supported this idea · -

An error occurred while saving the comment It does.
If you have Control panel displayed, there is an Edit in Photoshop button there.
If not — there is a 'pencil' button that does the same in Links panel.
But there is none in context menu, here I agree. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Adham, can’t verify on 27.4.1 and Beta 27.6.140, these still work for me, including complex (and even stupid ones, like 13/13).
Definitely a local bug.
Can you please isolate it to a new file and share this document here, so the team can look into it? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Yes! Finally! Clear steps to catch this stupid bug I’ve been suffering for ages!
This does also happen for other objects as well, and I have to only hope they have the same nature.
Thank you very much for isolating this issue.AdminEgor Chistyakov (Admin, Adobe Illustrator) supported this idea · -

The intended way of doing this is to unembed your image (if it’s embedded), open it in something like Photoshop and change the image size there, with the enabled 'Resample' option and using it’s 'Preserve Details 2.0' algorithm.
There are many other solutions for increasing the resolution, and as far as I know, the team hardly considers implementing things we can get, using other specialized apps and constantly evolving 'super rez' methods. Illustrator, being a dedicated vector editor (not a raster one!), does not try to compete with those.
