    Steph, is this still an issue for you?
    Does it work in the latest builds of Illustrator?

    It is possible to achieve this with a script.
    There are many variations of this, but I like this compact one by Oleg Krasnov:

    app.preferences.setBooleanPreference('ShowExternalJSXWarning', false);
    (function () {
    var n = "scaleLineWeight"
    , m = "scale strokes"
    , state = app.preferences.getBooleanPreference(n)? 0 : 1;
    app.preferences.setBooleanPreference(n, state);
    return m + ": " + (state? "on" : "off");
    })()

    Save it in a text file with .jsx format.
    Then you can put this script into the dedicated Scripts folder, record an action to call it, and assign a hotkey to the action.
    Once it’s set up (and backed up! actions can be lost on updates) — it just works.

    The request is a legal one, sure. Voted.

    Stephen is right with the workaround, but I say this here and there: an action which has only one operation recorded is a bad action, a consequence of Illustrator’s inability to assign direct hotkeys to panels’ menus.

    I believe every command in Ai should be assignable to a hotkey.

    I understand it might be too late for a reply (4 years passed) — but is this still a problem for you? I know the ~ key does not work for those who uses keyboard layouts other than English quite often, but you are form the US, I presume. Please correct me.

    Is this still a problem for you? I checked it and no problems happen for me on Windows with blurring a shape filled with a Pantone color from a Coated library...
    Especially interested about this in the light of the recent changes about Pantone integration. Please reply.

    A valid request, voted.

    I know a specific script that does respect clipping masks when calculating bounds, but it it is no about replacing symbols specifically, but about resizing to a certain size...

    But then there is a paid plugin, FindReplace Art by Astute Graphics, it does the thing you want for sure.

    I see. So these are the Pantones you are trying to add.
    Can you try the same with other library swatches, other than Pantone spots?
    I suspect it’s because it’s Pantone specifically: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/pantone-color-books-illustrator.html
    And surely it’s not how Ai should handles this, if it's the cause.
    Can you check it further?

    Grace, can you please record a short video of this behavior?
    What happens when you try to add swatches form a color library? Do you get any error messages?

    Yann, Ai provides several methods to export PNGs. Which one does crash Ai? Do other methods crash it?
    Does it happen with any document or a specific one?

    It turns out that if the material is removed from the panel, it will no longer load when the .sbsar file is deleted.
    The team replied there is a legal reason for this behavior. Ai cannot transfer customer materials as few materials are purchased by specific user from Substance. There is no way to tell them apart, so none of them gets embedded or packaged. The only way to share the materials like these is to actually transfer .sbsar files along .ai documents, when possible and allowed.
    I have no idea if this workflow ever changes, but since it’s not an actual solution, the requests stays open.

    Trevor, this is strange. If I add an .sbsar material with the 'Add' button in the panel, and apply it to an object, it stays applied to it, when I load the document back in — even though the original .sbsar file is deleted or moved. So it does get embedded for me just fine, no graying out happens...
    Please take a look at the test file attached — are you able to see wood planks applied to the cube?

    Now, that I thinking of it again, if feels like it’s exactly what we can already achieve with Paste in Front/Back commands. Subin, isn’t it the same functionality?

    An interesting idea, I like that.

    I often isolate an element and paste it when in isolation to put it where I want it to be. It’s assigned to a hotkey, so it’s quite fast. Your solution might be even simpler for those who use mouse/stylus a lot more.

    Annie, are you able to read it back in using the desktop version of Ai (if you do have an access to it)? Can you share the document using the Creative Cloud app and send the link to the document for the team to check? Just email it to sharewithai@adobe.com (and also mention the link to this report so they can track it here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/931885/suggestions/46528630)
