An error occurred while saving the comment Jessica, in the example you are describing, no new handles are generated when closing a path because the first point does not have a handle and is sharp originally.
However, when you close a path that starts with a smooth point (has a handle) — Ai tries to keep it smooth, that is to keep both handles at 180°.Why Ai considers a first point with a handle as a smooth?
It does it for all point with handles, unless they are changed intentionally to a sharp one, with Anchor Point tool / Convert to corner buttons / etc. It’s just a universal convention. Some applications like Affinity Designer follow it.
Some, like Corel Draw and Inkscape, ignore that, but don’t allow to close a path smoothly (!) — you have to fix it manually later.I prefer Ai’s way :) Holding Alt to break handles (it works not only when closing a path) is a simple workflow, and I can’t imagine not having it now.
An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks for the GIF!
To not change the original handle, hold Alt while closing the path — this should not convert the final point to a smooth one.
Please comment back if it works for you. -

An error occurred while saving the comment This is a GPU rendering issue.
A workaround is to disable it temporarily. -

An error occurred while saving the comment It feels like you had View > Show Edges accidentally turned off (Ctrl+H).
It can be useful sometimes, but yes, can lead to these exact problems you describe, if not intentional. -

An error occurred while saving the comment The image displays a mesh object.
Mesh points are not anchor points, but should operate fine.
Is this still an issue for you? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Andrew, works fine in PR build 730, the latest one. Red is on top, image is not duplicated.

An error occurred while saving the comment Ambrose, why don’t you change the Number Format in your spreadsheet before copying it? Both Excel and Google Sheets allow to reformat your values so that commas are not created.
I agree that Illustrator will benefit from having its own filter, but the workaround exists.

Hi,
Thanks for submitting this request , Illustrator team really appreciate this.
We had taken your feedback on this and added it to backlogAdminEgor Chistyakov (Admin, Adobe Illustrator) supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment I agree, happens all the time, the cursor must be placed inside of em-box to be able to select. And when you have 120% leading by default, you get this tiny strip of 'false trigger' area, you really wouldn’t need to create new area type object. If you increase leading, you would get even more of this space. I wonder if anyone creates new text overlapping the old?
An error occurred while saving the comment Nice report!
I also noticed this, but quickly got used to it.
It's sad some people suffer from new approach, but it was highly probable, as always is with dropping old behavior.
I would try both solutions simultaneously. -

An error occurred while saving the comment William, you are a Corel Draw user, no doubt :D
Sure, this is a nice option to steal. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Yes, Mike, this is what happens.
After launch, when you select several objects, Align to Selection is activated. But once it’s switched manually to Align to Artboard, it sticks and stays like it...So, what do you think is a bug here?
I mean, how do you think it should work and why?
This is a painful question :) -

An error occurred while saving the comment Stephen, it does work alright for me!
If it does not for you — can you share the file where using Type > Create Outlines does not work when you try to outline a clipped text? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Sean, you can do that in the Layers panel, where a document structure is presented as a tree and a range between two points has a meaning...
But a canvas has two dimensions.
How do you want Ai to treat ambiguous cases? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Interesting. It does work OK for me, both for changing strokes or tints... But the case sounds and looks familiar, as if I had this at least once.
Is this still an issue in the latest release? -

That is ridiculous. Does is still behave like this?
If yes — can you share one such a file to dissect?
