1. Per document.
Create a line or a rectangle, press D to reset the appearance to the default one, and then apply a stroke weight you want. Then open the Graphics Styles panel and drag-n-drop you shape with the proper weight over the [Default] style in the panel. This will force this appearance to be applied to all new objects in a document, when D is pressed.
2. For all new documents
Locate the folder with document profiles.
On Windows it should looks something like
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 26 Settings\[language, like 'en_US']\x64\New Document ProfilesOn MacOS it’s somewhere here
Users > [user account] > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Adobe Illustrator 26 > [language, e.g. 'en_GB'] > New Document ProfilesOpen the profile you want to change (I use Print and Web).
Repeat the same steps as above, delete the shape you used to override the default graphics style and save the document.
If Illustrator forbids you to do it, save it elsewhere and then replace the original files.
Now all new documents based on a certain document profile will have the default weight you defined.This method can be also used to change default swatches, default fonts, etc.
Don’t forget to backup you document profiles, because Illustrator tends to overwrite them on update.

Create an rectangle or whatever, open Graphic Styles, apply the default black/white one to your shape, set the stroke weight you want, than Alt+drag this shape over the default style.
And every time you press D you’ll get this particular weight. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Mario, what version are you using? This bug was fixed in Beta 30.0 (http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/50337453) and the latest general build 30.0 behaves normally, when I test it.

An error occurred while saving the comment Make Intertwine into a tool, available from a tool panel.
Objects on Path is a tool, and it creates a dedicated object... and does nothing else! all the operations with this new object are performed using the Selection tool...
Meanwhile, an Intertwine object would need a command, Object > Intertwine > Edit (or a button in the Control panel) to be edited — which just enabled the hidden tool! Make it a real one!An error occurred while saving the comment George, I agree with you on these.
However, since the tool is now released, we better stick to separate requests, to get proper statistics on what to improve with Intertwine.Please take a look at these new requests and vote for those you find worth it:

An error occurred while saving the comment It does it only if the Canvas Color is set to Match Brightness in Preferences > User Interface... well, I mean changing it from white to white is not a problem with this.
But what do you expect? Should artboards become gray as the canvas is? -

To actually rename, we need to open the Swatches panel’s menu and locate Swatch Group Option command, with the only option. Hardly convenient and consistent with renaming a swatch.An error occurred while saving the comment Can’t replicate :( Just won’t happen for me, does not matter if the color group has global colors in it or not.
Can you reproduce it a brand new file with default swatches?An error occurred while saving the comment Sorry, I can’t understand how do you rename a swatch group using the Color Guide panel. The panel just does not provide this function, as far as I know. It is possible to Save Color Group first, and then open the Recolor Artwork dialog, and rename from there, but it works fine, no duplication happens for me.
Can you please record a short video to demonstrate the exact steps you perform?

I guess this can be used for a bad cause, like to gather the database of restricted words... but I don’t understand why normal users should suffer because of this.An error occurred while saving the comment Interesting. I have some ideas on what can trigger the warning in a prompt like this, but I’d use 'conquer and divide' method to try to figure out what does: remove one half of a prompt and see if it goes. If the problem stays — remove one more half, but if it goes away — the offending word is probably in this removed part.
In any way, I’d start with a shorter prompt in the first place, adding more clarification incrementally, to see if matters.An error occurred while saving the comment Perhaps the word «boucherie» in this particular prompt is something the model rejects (the primary meanings are 'carnage, slaughter, bloodletting, massacre, destruction, annihilation, extermination, holocaust, bloodbath').

An error occurred while saving the comment Whenever I enable any Pressure option for any of three parameters (even when the variation value is 0) for the Blob Brush tool, I notice the simplification seemingly doesn’t get applied to the result...
And I don’t use a tablet pen, just a mouse at the moment.
Can you confirm this?
However, it doesn’t explain the problem with the variable width profile and the pathfinder (I’d like to get a test file with the original shapes and then processed to see the difference).
Just in case — can you backup your Preferences, reset them, and compare the behaviors?An error occurred while saving the comment The second one is a stroke with the variable width profile 2 applied, correct? This is not all what I get when trying to expand it in Ai 2026 30.0... Same deal with using the Blob brush...
What are the same settings you used for both the Blob Brush strokes? Can you share a screenshot, please?
At some point Adobe inserted a hidden simplification treatment before expanding variable strokes... it resulted in a slower speed, killing off the paired anchors, general smudginess... I raised it up several times, but it was not addressed.
It seems like in your case this hidden simplification step just never happens. -

If you assign one for the artboard with your artwork, it should get baked into the thumbnail. Would it work for you?
I don’t think there could be a reliable model to make thumbnail differ from the content, only for white logos... I’d be worried why these differ :)

Based on your recording (the yellow warning sign at the bottom of the File New dialog), you are creating a CMYK document, with units in millimeters, but based on the Web profile (or another RGB one)! This means Ai would use the stroke defined in one of these screen-intended profiles, and not the one from Print-based ones.
Choose the proper document profile in the top row and set your settings for the new document anew — and the stroke alignment would be centered.
If you really mean to change the stroke alignment for this particular (wrong) document profile — you can do it by actually opening the corresponding file (rather than creating a document based on it), and changing the Default Graphic Style.
