I’d say it happens like this... or perhaps you wanted only objects fully within an artboard to move with it?
If possible, please share some screenshots with cases you think are not working as you want.

    Deb. please tell more.
What document profile do you use when create a document that behaves like this?
What are the the units set in Preferences?
Can you share a test file that has this behavior, just in case?

Indeed, Ton! Enabling 'Move Locked and Hidden Artwork with Artboard' does cause the bug for me.

I can’t reproduce it at all, neither in 29.7.1 or Beta 29.9.0.6 — but I’m on Windows.
Can be OS-specific? Richard, you were using Intel Mac OS X 10.15.7, correct?

    Hello all,

The 'Apply to all' checkbox has been brought back in the Replace missing link dialogue.

'Apply to all' checkbox was removed when we introduced the 'Auto-relink' (search for missing links in this folder) functionality, as we though 'auto-relink' is going to take care of the 'replace all' workflow as well. But it didn't work as expected in few cases as pointed out by some of you.

Hence, with the latest release V29.2 (full roll out happens on Jan 9), we have decided to revert to the earlier experience whereby we are bringing back 'apply to all' checkbox and rolling back the 'auto-relink functionality.

Because of conflicts, both of these functionality cannot co-exist unless we make some significant changes to the relinking experience.

As we understand, 'replace all' was a important workflow for most of you, so we decided to quickly bring it back while working on the overall…

@AUSA Design, I can’t reproduce it in both 29.7.1 and the latest Beta 29.9.0.6 — the option is there for me, at Windows 10.
Does anyone else have it missing?

"Search for Missing Links in This Folder" was an option for me, and I’m on Windows 10 as well... Was exactly in the same position at InDesign has it in, in the right bottom corner of the Place dialog, next to the Place and Cancel buttons. Doesn’t matter though, it’s gone now.

As for the relinking... again, works for me.
Here is what I do to check it:
    1. I create a folder '1' and put three PNGs there
    2. I link all three into a document
    3. I relink the folder into '2'
    4. Ai throws me a warning, 'some files are missing or modified, wanna update' — I chose Yes
    5. It fails to find the link and offers to Replace or Ignore — I enable 'Apply to All', click 'Replace'
    6. I locate the folder in the Replace dialog opened, choose no file and just click another 'Replace'
    All three images get relinked.

In case you want to replace several copies of the same image (or even different image) with another image at once...
Well, this is one of reasons this whole story with options being messed with happened in the first place.
There is a separate request for this, 'Relink / replace all instances of the same image at once' — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/34174264

InDesign treats copies of the same image as duplicates.
Illustrator does not. And 'Replace All' is just a controversial name for the command in this case, and different users expect different results because of this.

    Maddening, for sure!
Luckily for us, there are TWO FREE scripts we can use to avoid clicking the Replace button 154 times:
    1. Fast Relink by Marat Shagiev: https://github.com/dumbm1/ai_scripts/blob/master/jsx/fast_relink.jsx
    2. Relink All Selected by Carlos Canto and the community: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/relink-all-selected/td-p/9332967

These were mentioned several times in comments below.
Please use them to save time!
Running scripts is easy — you can just drag-n-drop it in the Ai window, that’s it.
At least the team is now FULLY aware of the problem and all the uses we mean to have.

While the team does who knows what with this problem, I want to remind all about several existing free scripts (and everyone should use scripts, because suffering makes no sense) to solve this problem TODAY:
    1. https://github.com/dumbm1/ai_scripts/blob/master/ord/fastRelink/fast_relink.jsx by Marat Shagiev
    2. https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/relink-all-selected/td-p/9332967 by Carlos Canto and the community

For the convenience, I attach these as .txt here, since UserVoice has a strict policy about scripts in attachments.
You need to rename them to .jsx.

You don’t have to install them into Scripts folder even to access form File > Scripts even (but this would allow you to make an action with this script inside). you can just keep them where you want them and drag-n-drop them into Ai window when needed.
One of them should work. Just select images, run the script, pick one image and get all selected links replaced with this chosen image at once.

As the status says, a new way to handle links en masse is offered for testing.
It looks like the attached images show.

My personal opinion is: I like where it’s going, but this looks pretty bloated, it breaks legacy workflows, and I don’t like the current version.

The decision to have names on separate lines I get...
And I understand why it has to be a column, and not three columns...
I just don’t find it anything elegant or easy to read. The name of the original missing link, duplicated twice, alternating like a sandwich, hardly makes it easy to see and grasp the idea between 'Current' and 'All' options.

Then... it just doesn’t work it seems.
    1. I linked an image and made 10 duplicates of it
    2. I renamed the file and got the dialog #1
    3. I chose to Replace and picked the renamed file
    4. I set 'All instances' — so I expect to have all 10 copies of this image replaced with the renamed file.
But instead I get this 'Could not find the linked file' warning for each selected image. Why?

If I select several duplicated linked images on canvas / in Links panel and choose Relink in the Links panel’s menu, and then pick 'All instances' option in Place dialog — it works... but it doesn’t replace only those duplicated I wanted to replace and selected, it replaces them ALL.
Yes, the name of the option says so.
But how can I replace only those I selected?

As I see it, Apply to All checkmark should be brought back.
If enabled and Replace is clicked, the 'Current instance' option should just become disabled.
The name of the link should go to the dialog’s header, just like InDesign does it.

I believe the options should be like these.
    Replace [filename]:
    — Current instance only (should be disabled if Apply to All was used)
    — Selected instances (should be disabled if none were selected)
    — All instances
'Search for Missing Links in This Folder' should be a checkmark, to distinguish it from 'Replace [filename]' choice.
If it gets ticked, all radio buttons above (or to the left of it) should become disabled and blank — since it’s a different thing altogether.
However, if unchecked, Ai should restore the choice made by user and not default it.
That is, if one clicked 'Selected Instances' and then enabled 'Search for...' — then 'Selected...' becomes blank and disabled.
But if 'Search for...' is toggled back — 'Selected...' must become active and picked.
And 'Search for...' should be disabled as well if no links are missing.

Plus this proposal is just TOO DEEP. It’s a dropdown with three options! Why not a radio group with all three choices visible all at once?

I’d prefer to have these directly in the dialog BEFORE this one.
It’s a rather important choice, and pushing it below another choice, when we actively search for the file, won’t get noticed by many, even though some related options are already there...

    Not enough.

InDesign has a dedicated 'Relink to Folder' menu command — which basically works as 'Replace + Search ... in This Folder', but doesn’t require to have links missing!
Here is the request about having it — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/39739852-add-relink-to-folder-to-the-links-panel-as-in — and notice a free script exists to do it — https://github.com/sky-chaser-high/adobe-illustrator-scripts#relinkToFolder

Then, we might need to replace selected images (linked or not) with ONE another chosen link (this is exactly what users are crying about now) — but without using the mentioned 'delete to trigger the dialog' workaround (it IS a workaround).
And here is the request about having it — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/34174264 ! Plus, again, there is a free script to do it — https://github.com/dumbm1/ai_scripts/blob/master/ord/fastRelink/fast_relink.jsx !

What about the cursed Libraries, Batch relinking FROM a library?
There is a request — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31902295 . This time no free script, because Libraries is a barred bunker with no ESTK support (sigh).

Why not giving dedicated menu commands for all of those, along with the redesigning 'missing' dialog?
So we have these command in Links’ menu:
    Relink
    Relink Selected
    Relink to Folder
    Relink File Extension
    Relink from CC Libraries
    Relink Selected from CC Libraries
Notice how it says 'Libraries' (like the panel is called and how InDesign spells it), and not 'Library'.
Notice Libraries are shoved into the bottom, because local is more important than cloud (and always will be), and that’s how InDesign handles it.

Adam, this one is a pretty recent change... They had the option at some point, but then dropped, because were not aware of the 'replace with one image' trick we started to use it for. The problem with the actual mass relinking to existing links was an old one, true, but this particular report is not about it.

And it IS going to be redeemed, as I am aware, soon enough. Fingers crossed.

CSievers, the free Fast Relink script by Marat Shagiev I mention in a comment in the link below, allows to avoid repetitive operations TODAY. I am not saying it’s a final solution we should be happy with, but it works.

InDesign’s 'Relink all instances of an image' works for one image only, while the script allows to select any images. Was Apply to All able to do that? I think I never tried even.

@ajabon grinsmith in the previous thread showed an interesting example with relinking many different images to another folder with different files having same names... but I believe this IS possible with the current 'Search for missing links in this folder', nope? Should recheck.

BTW, there is this special dedicated request:
Relink / replace all instances of the same image at once
    http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/34174264

It won’t allow to achieve all the things users were able to do with Apply to / Replace All, as I see it, but anyway.

Haris, how often do you overlap these and how does it happen? Just by moving them around, in a chaos of exploring?
What do you expect to happen if you release and drop a moved one if it get overlapped? A modal warning? An instant choice in it to undo? A 'shy' message (the gray one at the top, like Ai uses for 'live shape expanded' and other non-critical cases)?
Would you expect it change the cursor to 'forbidden' and refuse to get dropped at all, restoring the position automatically?
    Please elaborate.

Angela, the team would need the actual template file you are having the problem with (is it an .ait file?)
Please share it here in a comment, if possible, or send it directly to sharewithai@adobe.com (in this case mention the link to this report for tracking purposes, http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/50336565)
Also — can you reproduce this in a template created from scratch?
Does it happen in a previous build or in Beta? (I realize it’d be too much hustle to try, but perhaps you can test this)
Are any other non-template files get affected by this?

I’ll try to bring more attention to it. Recent bugs usually have better chances to be fixed soon.
If the bugfix happens, it’d most probably land in Beta first. I’ll update the status of the report when it happens.
For now, I’m afraid, the only solution would be to downgrade — I can’t tell how far though.

    I confirm it.
I distilled this problem to a single observation. If a group with symbols has a path with a blending mode other than normal, this bug happens.

This feels very much like a bug with Blends I’m going to report.

Right now I have a plan and a ton of dimensions. Within the same document, on a same artboard, I need to create another smaller set of dimensions.
If we were able to control the layer Ai puts these in, I’d just go and set 'dimensions_electrics' for this new set I need to make.
But for now I’d have to create 'dimensions_general', put the existing ones in it, and collect new ones into 'Dimensions' (Capitalized, because screw us).
Thanks for never making anything perfect. I’m angry today, I had Ai crashed 5 times in one morning.

Brian, if only it was simple, this 'simply allow'.
Ai is a behemoth with dependencies as bones and existing workflows as veins. Changing anything that simple can cause everything to crumble, in the most unexpected place imaginable. Actually, the problems you are seeing the large canvas mode is causing (while it being a rather harmless band-aid, applied to the surface of the behemoth) would be a tiny fraction of problems a truly infinite canvas would cause to the model. And it’s like performing a surgery on a living brain, since Illustrator is always is in use by us.

    But I agree.
There is an existing request that is gaining popularity, about the truly infinite canvas: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/38129344 — you can upvote it, if you wish.

Speaking about cropping — I assume that artboards behind assets are smaller than objects themselves? and Ai gives no way to 'hug' the objects, but from chosen sides (like right and bottom only)? or do I get it wrong?
