From MY point of view, I would only need PDF. Ever.
I can think of other use cases, where PNG would be the preferred one.
And then again others, where it changes, what it should be exported to.

So I can only offer my wish to have it either be a setting that _I_ always have PDF as the first selected, or to (maybe choose or have it as default) have the last selected be the one that shows up the next time, regardles of same session or restart.

Why is PNG the default one (it IS the default one for sure now) in the first place? Obviously not for alphabetical reasons. So there has been a thought process to have it this way, and I want to have everyone rethink this process and make it even more usable to all.

I find this a reasonable and important suggestion.

I Would like to add, that if that is being worked on, that when selecting "export as", there should be an option to have the last selected format locked in. As in: If I export as PDF (which is the ONLY Export I have ever done in Illustrator), that it is the default thing the next time I start my computer. Right now I have to choose this each an every single time, which feeld tedious and unneccasary.

Not to capture this great idea, but from my point of view (or way of working) it seems to me that once I chose the correct export setting in INDD, it sticks. So what I would love to see is that the ne export as feature of Illustrator would REMEMBER that I never never never want to export as PNG but rather only PDF.

I could manage and live with the fact to have to press enter once again after the systems asks me what preset to use, but it feels cumbersome and 1990-ish to have to change to PDF over and over (with the mouse instead of the keyboard on top of that!)

Maybe both could be thought about and incorporated?

The solution is pushed into Global Availability build 28.6.

PDF is now available as type in File > Export > Export As dialog.

However, File > Adobe PDF Presets menu, similar to one InDesign has, to allow even quicker export, is absent still.

If you want to have it, please upvote this new request here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/48670088

Well "consistency" would be to also have command-e as the command.
And having the computer remember that I always always always wand to export as PDF, and not as PNG, and having to change that each and every f*ing time with my mouse (like an ANIMAL ;) ).
But maybe thet can be done in the next iteration of this request, 4 or 6 years from now?

I see it is closed but apart from working it has a small (but important) flaw: I have to use it with my mouse. That seems cumbersome. Did nobody try this in a production environment at adobe? I really need a keyboard shortcut for that.

I have gotten the tip from Adobe to allow full disk access to illustrator, so that the problem would then be solved. Although that did not seem to be connected at all I tried. Today I can say: It still does not solve this problem, I have this problem still. please investigate further!

If you have a way of being able to send the font just to you, I'd do that.

I have found a file. I cleaned it so that it cannot be traced to a customer.
I upload it without the fonts. The font used here is ITCAvantGardeStd-BkCn.otf, I have seen the similar thin with other fonts as Clan e.g. I Put a PDF in there as well so that you can see how it looked here, in case it is correct on your end.

this happens on many computers in our company, I'd say, from what I have seen here, that it is not dependent on the computer, rather on something else, which I cannot point my finger to.

If you need anything else, contact me. I'd be happy to help fix this problem at the soonest.

P.S.: As I was checking the files and wanted to writhe the PDF smaller, the newly opened AI did have its normal "-", so I could not recreate the problem so far. Lucky I wrote the PDF in the first place.

    I hope you find something.

Hi Egor, thanks for the quick response. I will. But I'd be uncomfortable in sharing it here openly. I am confident that you will be using the font only for the purposes of finding a bug, but I am certainly not allowed to have it here for everyone, same with my file, that my customer might not want to see publicly, even stripped to this problem.
Is there another way of providing the files, when I get this problem again?

I'm not sure... Maybe if two or eleven more people would write, that it has been fixed, it would be more convincing I guess. ;)

In my case, I have my Tools on the left side and when I try to change a tool I click on finder, leaving Illustrator, not changing the tools. Or opening separation view or ANYTHING. I cannot work at the moment. Please fix this fast!

    Hi All,

We have fixed this issue in 24.0.3 version of Illustrator (MAC only issue). Please update to 24.0.3 if you are encountering this issue. For all the other issues which you are encountering regarding the update or the new document dialog or any other please create another User Voice thread for that issue so that we can track it there itself.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Illustrator Team
