As stated in the article linked below, Pantone’s licensing with Adobe got changed.
Due to this change, customers will need to purchase Pantone Connect licenses to access Pantone colors in Adobe Creative Cloud products.

If you're still seeing it, could you help us with a few details so we can dig in further?
- Are you still facing the issue? (yes / intermittent / no longer)
- Machine configuration — OS and version, GPU, and Illustrator version/build
- Reproduction rate — does it happen every time, or only sometimes?
- A screen recording of the issue as it happens, if you can capture one
- The AI file you were working with when the issue occurred (feel free to share a stripped-down/anonymised version if the original is confidential)
If the issue is 100% reproducible on your machine, we'd be happy to set up a short debug session with you.

Hi Everyone, This feature was shipped in Illustrator 2020 version. Please go to Preferences>Selection & Anchor Display > and check ‘Select and unlock objects on canvas’. Enabling this preference will display a lock icon when you select the locked object.

Starting from the February 2024 release, version 28.3, this option is no longer enabled by default for new documents. If you had hyphenation enabled in an existing document, Ai will respect this.

I work exclusively off a server in Illustrator and find AI to be slow IF files are saved with PDF preview ON. PDF preview will grow your filesize immensely if you embed or even link psd's in your file. Obviously, larger files take longer to load and save. Turn OFF PDF preview, and your filesize will shrink to a fraction of its size.
This may or may not be your issue, however, I'm constantly amazed how many people who've been working in Illustrator for years don't know this. And obviously, make sure your scratch disk is set to a local drive.
I build packaging - some of the boxes I build are very large, with very large image files - and don't have network issues as long as I keep PDF preview off my file saves. I also tend to work in Outline Mode most of the time as well - helps with performance.
But, I have to agree, Illustrator's performance is horrible.
