This is an old bug. I had it in CS3, ten years ago. Guess it's one of those flaws/bugs that will be around forever.

Yeah, that's what I (and Hassan, I suppose) mean. I know it's not a bug, it's just VERY annoying when you have a lot of objects close to (and behind) the text and you keep selecting the text by mistake.

Egor: The problem is the "selection area"/bounding box around the text, and the fact that it's way too big. You're constantly selecting the text by mistake when clicking other objects nearby. And when aligning, Illustrator aligns this invisible bounding box (I know there's a workaound for this but you shouldn't have to use that trick) instead of the actual text.

It would be nice if you could select (and align) the text by clicking the actual letters. As if the letters were expanded shapes.

I agree. That invisible (which for some fonts is insanely large) area around the text is very annoying. You keep selecting text objects by mistake.

I HATE this too. Why did Adobe change this? It doesn't make any sense at all.

Whenever you edit (extend it, shorten it, cut it in two) a path that has width points it completely messes up all the width points along that path.

For example: You spend 30 minutes on creating a calligraphic text using the width tool, but you change your mind and want to cut the path somewhere. Then the width profile is messed up and you have to start over from scratch creating new width points along the entire path.

PLEASE make it possible to "lock" the width points/profile so you can cut a path, extend or shorten it with the pen tool without messing everything up.

I would like this too. I want to use the english apps, but with swedish shortcuts. If you could download a shortcut file for your own language, that would be great.

Hi Everyone, This feature has been available since August 2020 release (version 24.3). Please update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html Thank you for all the feedback.

You can now select multiple layers in Layers panel. Click the bars (they get highlighted blue) if you want to operate layers and not their content (e.g. to drag to reorder) or click their markers to select their content — circle (target ones) or square (selection ones) next to them. There is no real difference which to pick, but if you want to select a range of layers, using Shift, use target markers.

Latest versions of Illustrator have an exact solution for that.

Open Align panel, and enable Align to Glyph Bounds option in the panel’s menu, for point or area text or both.

The bounding box will remain the same, but the text will now align to and by its actual bounds, just like you want.

Please comment back if it works for you.

This has been driving me insane since I started using Illustrator ten years ago. I would also like the option of selecting text by clicking the actual letters and not that annoying invisible area around the text.

There is a way to select locked objects in recent Illustrator versions.
In Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display section toggle ‘Select and Unlock objects on canvas’ option to see small lock icons you can click when locked objects get into a selection marquee.
