This certainly is not a normal behaviour of Illustrator.
Please get in touch with us at sharewithai@adobe.com or any of the other support channels – https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html . Please give a reference to this post so that we can identify you.
Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.An error occurred while saving the comment Eli Geller commentedOne more thing.
After quitting and opening Illustrator again saving time is again normal even to my network volume. An error occurred while saving the comment Eli Geller commentedHave the same issue. I'm on a Mac Pro running OS 10.13.6, 2x2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 34 GB 1066 MHz DDR3.
This happens only when I save to a network volume.
When I tried to disable background saving and slow network optimization my PDF was saved instantly but without any content (file attached).
Had to quit Illustrator and start it up again for my PDF to saved properly.Eli Geller supported this idea · -

Hi Eli,
Not all the fonts have all the glyphs available with them to show the preview. For the fonts where glyphs are not available, we show the default sample preview (that’s why you get first five glyphs for those fonts)
Hope This helps.
Thanks

Illustrator QEAn error occurred while saving the comment Eli Geller commentedHi Anish,
This answers most of my comments. RTL Words preview presented backwards is still an issue.
It's not critical but it's still very annoying. Thanks

This is simple yet annoying thing Illustrator does.
It has its own language preferences regardless of what is set by the system.
This can, at times, cause me to change the language repeatedly during application change.
Illustrator remembers the last language that was set, so, if for instance I change the language outside of illustrator, it changes it back to the one that was set before. Sometimes my working method requires frequent app changes, this creates a situation where I find myself repeatedly changing the language.
The workaround is, obviously, to go back to illustrator and change the language there.
This is annoying and unnecessary.
I think that Illustrator should "respect" the system setting for the current language preference, or at least to have a toggle within it to choose any of the two behaviors.
