I just started adding colour to a logo in AI CC2023 and, as promised as one of the "features:" No Pantone colours. I will be returning to AI CC2022 or maybe switching to Affinity until this idiocy is remedied. Pantone colours are still necessary to speccing colour. There are workarounds, and I use them, but if Adobe hopes to have a reputation as being the go-to graphic design app, you'd better sort this out and bring back Pantone. Thank you.

Yeah... I have a guess the decision was driven by Pantone rather than Adobe. We all assume they wanted more revenue, since printing becomes less relevant and they can’t sell color books that efficiently as before.
Sadly, this request probably won’t mean much for them, even if we get a thousand votes :( But I personally can hope anyway. Perhaps the world will just find another way, Pantone-less.

I am writing to express a complaint about Adobe no longer supporting Pantone colors. Adobe needs to revisit its license with Pantone and stop passing the expense on to customers who are already paying a lot. Adobe thinks customers are trapped into it since we use Adobe products. I can assure you we will all start looking elsewhere if Adobe keeps pulling these kinds of stunts.

I am not interested in buying a plug in or a team explaining to me why this decision was made. I don't care. Consider this a formalized complaint to add to all the zillions of other complaints that graphic designers and printers will have about this decision.

I also did not intend to make this a public comment, but after 30 minutes of being passed around to various chat assistants, this is the place they sent me.

How to update Pantone color in Illustrator for free?

Yes please ! So many Pantone colors are missing into the AI library. This is an absolute waste of time. Many thanks to update it

Yes Please!! I heard from Pantone that they are not supporting the Pantone Color Manager after 2021. Also, it is replaced by the mobile app/ extension Pantone Connect, which does not allow you to download a library - you can only add one swatch at a time. We need a library panel option - all current Pantone color swatches in Illustrator are years out of date and don't match current books. In the meantime the Color Manager is included with the purchase of a book - use it to download the .ACB file now before it's gone.

Thank you for the advice JG. I pay Adobe nearly $3,000 per year for a 3-user license. I think it is reasonable to ask Adobe to update the Pantone color books on a regular basis.

It should be included & updated with the adobe software

Include the complete Pantone color library in color books instead of having to buy it separately from Pantone.

The software PANTONE COLOR MANAGMENT do it for you. It syncs in Illustrator, Photoshop and Indesign.
Adobe is always creating new color numbers.

Adobe should add newly released Pantone colors with every software update. Responsibility for this should not fall on user shoulders.

I've finally gotten this to work. If you've gotten to the point where you've downloaded the Pantone Color Manager (available on Pantone's website after you purchase a book and enter the serial number...), open Color Manager App, click the fan icon in the lower right, select Pantone Master Standards, then select the book you want. Then go to the toolbar, File > Export > Illustrator (or your app) > Lab. Then when you go to Illustrator > Windows > Swatch Libraries > Color Books > then select your book. The new one shows up as V3 for me. Hope this helps.

I have done all the steps below, but i still do not see the new pantone colors in illustrator, indesign and photoshop. What is going wrong? Can someone please help?

Stefanie THANK YOU! This was immensely helpful and the Adobe online chat was completely useless. They have no knowledge of this.

If you have a Pantone swatch book, find the serial number (usually in bold, black letters on the bottom of one of the first pages of your book or fan) and register it with Pantone. Then you'll be able to download their Color Manager at no additional cost. Once that's been activated (using the same serial number you just used), click on the Fan Deck icon (bottom right) in the Color Manager app and select which color book you want to update or install. Once it's selected, you'll click File > Export > Photoshop/inDesign/Illustrator> and your print choice. (L*A*B for print, RGB for web). Then your Adobe application will be updated and you can find the newer colors and additional color books in your program for use.

It took me longer to find the serial number in the book than it did to export all of the new color books to Illustrator!
