We should be able to right-click on any command and Add a Hotkey to it
Ai is stuck in 90-s with the UI’s paradigm.
We need faster ways now.Why can’t we right-click any command in the top bar menu and choose 'Add a keyboard shortcut' command that will immediately open the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog with this clicked menu item already chosen?
Why should be go to the dialog separately and search for the command once more?

Shortcut to toggle visibility of Contextual Task Bar
It would be useful for this tool to allow the user to hide/show this Contextual Task Bar using a single keyboard shortcut.

Move Blend Mode keyboard shortcuts from the Tools into the Menu Commands section
If you open Keyboard Shortcuts, make sure you have Tools selected, scroll all the way down, you’ll see all 'Blend Mode - [name of the mode]' commands there — empty, ready to be assigned... but. Opt/Alt cant’ be used for these. Because these are in tooools. Which means these can be bound only to naked keys and Shift+keys. Which are all taken, long time ago!
So please move Blend Mode keyboard shortcuts from the Tools section into the Menu Commands section, so we can use all possible modifiers for these, and not only Shift.
Also, why do we even have…

Make Redefine Graphic Style option better accessible, and from the Graphic Styles panel too
If Ai had a hotkey for this command (like this request is asking for: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/41254435), perhaps this one would be less painful.
Yes, I know, you edit an appearance in the Appearance panel, and then force this changes to update the original style, using the panel’s flyout menu... but
A. I often start looking the wrong panel, thinking 'I am updating a graphic style, so the relevant command should be in Graphic Styles' — and when I realize it’s a wrong assumption, it’s too late. For some reason this habit is hard to change!
B. Why this command is…

Drag tools from one toolbar to another
When I setup tool panels for various reasons), I can’t just drag it between tool panels.
The only way to do it now is to remove the tool first in the first toolbox and add it again in the second one. Each panel has its own Edit mode and tools get dragged only within an edited panel :(11 votes -
Allow eyedropper to ignore locked layers.
Allowing the eyedropper to optionally ignore the contents of locked layers would be very useful. Having a locked layer with transparency above an active layer and trying to sample a line weight, only to sample the fill or other attributes of a transparent object that you're working "through" is very frustrating.

Absolute mode that always sets a fill a single click and stroke with the Alt+click/right click
Setting a color for fill and stroke depends on what is 'active' in the toolbox. This is a relative mode mode and it's unique for Adobe apps (and their imitators/imitators).
What about giving a direct way of setting fill/stroke, without remembering which is in focus now? somewhat like Corel Draw does?
Give us an option to be able to set a fill with a single click, and a stroke with the Alt+click (and additionally bringing it to focus), or right click.11 votes -
Guide Labels
I would love the ability to label my guides. In fact maybe a hole overhaul to the guide system. In After Effects and Premiere you can add Composition Markers, give them comments and adjust their perimeters. It would be great if you could do that for guides.
On the rulers will show a marker. Double clicking the marker will bring up the Guide Controls. or when you select 'New Guide' from the drop down menu, Guide Controls takes place of the window that currently gets displayed.
I would love this across all programs: Photoshop, After Effects, and the like, not…

Highlight/Select values within box on panels on single click
I am unsure if this is OS specific or not, but it would be a welcome quality-of-life change. I use an Apple laptop and a Windows desktop.
Within Photoshop on Mac, if you click within the 'Character Size' box inside the Properties panel the entirety of the characters are highlighted to then be replaced. Unknown to me, this behavior is actually not consistent throughout every other Adobe program on Mac OS (as it should be).
It seems that on Windows, the behavior is set to only highlight on a double-click as well. This isn't the end of the world but…

Add Release button to Image Trace and Properties panels
Please add a 'Release' button to the Properties Panel along with Image Trace. It would be easier to just 'release' the image trace instead of multiple undo-s.

Custom Rulers for scaling
It would be great to have the option of creating custom scaled rulers.
I'd like to be able to just tell the rulers "From this point to this point on the artboard is x-pixels" and have the ruler scale.
When I design something for a 1080p screen, I like to put 2-up on a letter size page for discussion and markup with clients. So I design in a 2-up environment and end up with a massive amount of math to get things sized right.

Customize Transparency Grid Size and Color...
It would be nice to customize the transparency grid's color and relative size.
11 votesIt is possible to do in Illustrator as well — not in Preferences, but in File > Document Setup dialog (Cmd/Ctrl + Alt +P) — because these settings are local for a document and not global. Same exact controls.

Keyboard shortcut to switch between colour panels (RGB/HSB)
I use both the HSB and the RGB colour panels all the time. To switch between them, the user currently has to select from the options menu or shift-click multiple times to cycle through.
What would be really great is to be able to assign shortcuts to specific colour panels.

'Tab' and 'Shift-Tab' to navigate when renaming Assets
Issue:
While renaming assets in the Asset palette there's currently no way to move to the next or previous asset using the keyboard. When there are a large number of assets this makes for a tedious process.Goal:
Allow the renaming of multiple assets without having to use the mouseSuggested Solution:
Utilize 'Tab' / 'Shift-Tab' keys to navigate to the next / previous assets, e.g. how renaming layers works in Photoshop.11 votes -

Sort menus alphabetically when Cmd+Opt+Shift / Ctrl+Alt+Shift, like in InDesign
Illustrator has a lot of things put in menus.
The sorting order in some (like View or Object) can be unobvious for new users (and surely some older ones as well).InDesign allows to sort menus temporarily by holding Cmd+Opt+Shift / Ctrl+Alt+Shift while clicking one — make Ai do the same!
An interesting thing is — helpx.adobe.com does not know about it at all. Another sacred technique :/ Terry White figured it out somewhere, but where did he get it from? ...accidentally?

Appearance panel needs a better way to signal 'No selection'
Very often, working on a complex appearance, we accidentaly loose the object selection, and the stack we edit remains unassigned.
The panel then gets 'No selection' in the top row... but if the attributes stack is long, this line can get hidden if you scroll the panel down.
Then, if you select something else, all your changes get lost. The workaround now is to be vigilant (ha) and save your appearance as a temp style before you select back the art you wanted to edit appearance for in the first place.
A better solution would be to make the 'No…10 votes -
graph type preview checkbox
It would be nice to add a Preview checkbox to the Panel that you get when using Object > Graph > Type… , Object > Graph > Design… , Object > Graph > Colum… and Object > Graph > Marker…
After 35years this should be possible.
Thank you!10 votes -
Switching between documents with shortcut CTRL + TAB on Macs
Switching between documents with shortcut CTRL + TAB like it is used in PS. When you, as I do, constantly work in both at the same time, it would be nice to have this functionality in both PS and AI.

Bring back the previous Illustrator CC toolbar
Bring back the previous Illustrator CC toolbar. After years of having the AI tools in a particular spots, now they're all over the place and hard to find and the Edit Toolbar is a cluster#$%& of madness. Bring it back!
10 votesWe have not removed the previous toolbar, it is just that it is not the default. Please use the Window menu > toolbar to get back to the advanced toolbar
