Native Math Type
Can we get a native Math type text editor inside Illustrator (or Creative Suite). The LaTeX or Math Type apps are really difficult to use inside Illustrator.

Improve the preview quality when placing a file
When importing a file to place it, the quality can be quite disastrous and it can be difficult to know if the version being imported is the right one, if the only difference is in the details.
Alternatively, a larger window with a zoom effect upon hover would make this feature exceptional.
I love pixel art but this feels ancient and in dire need of an upgrade.

Alternate colors to improve row legibility
When Panels contain lists, it would greatly improve accessibility and legibility to alternate the hues of the entire rows.
In the mockups attached, it is much easier to follow each line and click the corresponding circle for each layer than if the rows were all the same color.

Add an option to preserve the color of the Clipping Mask when creating a Clipping Mask
I would like the "Object > Clipping Mask" menu to have two options:
1 - "Make transparent Clipping Mask" (keeps current behavior)
2 - "Make Mask (preserve color)" : Makes a clipping mask but doesn't strip the color of the object used as a mask.I create a lot of illustrations where I use dark shapes for colouring inside and shading, and then clip the shadow's bleed outside the shapes with a clipping mask - it doesn't mean I need the object's color removed.

Save a Graphic Style in CC Library with a right-click or from the Graphic Styles window
It's a huge waste of time to save Graphic Styles as a .ai file when it would be so simple to save Graphic Styles in the CC Library to centralize everything across hundreds of docs.
Having to locate a file and open it and locate the element and select the Graphic Style and drag it from the Appearance Panel to the Graphic Styles window and then saving it to a file is an incredibly long and cumbersome process.
Right-clicking an object and "Save Object Style to CC Library" would allow a user to discard a file if they don't need it anymore but save the Graphic Styles contained quickly and effectively.

Support SVG 2.0 for import and export
When importing SVG 2.0 files into Adobe Illustrator, some attributes will not be properly recognized and get lost.
SVG 2.0 is gaining wider adoption in modern design and web workflows. If Adobe Illustrator, After Effects and other industry-standard creative tools do not implement full SVG 2.0 compatibility soon, it will create major unnecessary frictions for users. Designers will constantly need to manually modify files and roll back to outdated SVG 1.1 syntax to make their assets editable across the toolchain. This breaks the seamless handoff between design and development that modern vector workflows rely on.

Smartly bring relevant panels up from under other ones based on context
AI's interface can clutter easily, resulting in panels hiding under other panels. In some cases this can be solved by some intelligent context sensitivity. E.g: when Type is selected, please bring the Character palette to front; when a Path is selected, bring Stroke forward. For Tools, something alike can happen: a context sensitive section in the Tool palette, presenting all relevant tools.

Random image being added while editing a text box
I'm using Illustrator and a random image is added while I'm editing text. It deselects the item I'm editing and creates an image out of nowhere.

Change labels for Align buttons to match the reference line rather than a position change
The labels that pop-up over the align panel are wrong!
Well, when one wants to align objects left, right or centre – the aligning reference (imaginary) line is vertical, isn't it? Then why are they called "Horizontal Align"? And vice-versa for aligning objects top, centre and bottom. What's the reasoning behind this? Dyslexia?2 votes -
Shortcut for removing many selected points on an object without breaking the shape into a line
It would be great if there was a shortcut key for removing selected anchor points while maintaining status as a shape object.
I could be simply not aware of the shortcut key for it, but it's frustrating to select anchor points and hit backspace/delete, only for the shape to break into a line. When it breaks into a line, it's no longer a viable target for the pathfinder tool, and you can't easily turn it back into a shape once it's a line.
Even better would be if there was also a shortcut key (maybe an ALT or SHIFT in addition to the existing shortcut) to remove the anchor point and have the nearby points dynamically adjust to maintain the shape as it is, similar to the simplify feature but with more control over which points get removed.

Distribute Spacing dialog
The new Distribute Spacing dialog is extremely useful when a key object is set and the function is accessed through the menu.
I'm aware that a keyboard shortcut can be assigned to open this dialog quickly. However, what I'd really like is the ability to trigger the same key-object-based distribution directly from the Distribute buttons on the panel, by holding a modifier key while clicking them.

Dual units of measurement on Transform panel
I need to be able to see two units of measurement in the Transform / Properties panel. I work with documents in centimeters and inches. I also need to be able to enable or disable dual measurements from the hamburger menu.

Cropping Rotated Image should offer to rasterize it to have the cropping frame orthogonal
When I select an image layer, rotate it, and then want to crop it to make it fit into a spot, the crop shows up square instead of following the rotated image. To my knowledge there isn't an easy way to crop a rotated image. I understand a lot of people are trying to crop square but I would love a checkbox in cropping properties that lets me have it conform to the rotation of the image.
IE: if an image is rotated 30 degrees, I want my crop bounding box rotated 30 degrees too.

In the Export for Screens Dialogue Box, please add a select all button as well, rather than just 'Clear Selection.'
See Attached. This would be awesome sauce.
2 votesThe dialog has 'All' option at the top of the panel already. If you still need a button, please comment and upvote.

Bring back the original “Reset Bounding Box” workflow
In previous versions, the Reset Bounding Box command made it possible to quickly redefine the orientation of the bounding box after rotating an object. This allowed users to flatten or stretch rotated objects directly with the bounding box handles.
In Illustrator 2026 this workflow no longer works reliably. In many cases Reset Bounding Box is disabled, making a very common transformation much more difficult than it used to be.
Please restore the previous behavior, or provide an equivalent workflow that is just as fast and intuitive.
This is not a new feature request—it is a request to restore a long-established workflow that many professional users have relied on for decades.
Removing or limiting this functionality breaks existing workflows without providing a clear advantage.
Thank you.

Adding strokes to images easier
On either links or embedded image files, it would be super helpful to be able to add a stroke to it instead of the messy workaround of drawing one or adding multiple, RAM-hogging glow effects with no blur to the get that effect.

Add the "Align to center vertically and horizontally" button to Properties panel
I really liked the neewly added "Align to center vertically and horizontally" button, I often had to use two buttons to center in the artwork the objects, but now I miss that option in the Properties panel, which is always present.

Make Turntable keep strokes live and unexpanded
Turntable is really starting to pick up steam for us, apparel designers. We can use it for additional views sometimes needed by factories (side views, a glimpse at the inside of a garment that is lined with a different color etc.)
It would be even more incredible if it didn't expand your outlines.2 votes -
Allow to create a document from template (.ait) from the New Document (File > New) dialog
Illustrator allows us to use File > New from Template, that opens an OS dialog into the dedicated (hardcoded) template folder...
This folder is buried in guts of the app, requires permissions to write into on Macs, detached for the local storage in general.
At the same time, modern New Document dialog offers large thumbnails and various options to create a new document... but nothing to support custom templates (not presets!)...actually, we can go there with the More Settings button (often hidden under the scroll line), press 'Templates...' button in More Settings dialog, and get the same OS dialog. Ai can do better!
