Files saved to an older version (CS6, or lower) using 30.2.1 build give errors when opening in older versions
After the last update, saving an .ai file in version CS5 or lower and then trying to open it in Illustrator CS5 results in an error: invalid operator: "<fffe>"
34 votesClaimed to be fixed in the latest 30.3 general release. Please update, check, and comment back if it still happens.

Add an ON/OFF toggle button in the Artboards panel to enable/disable “Paste on Selected Artboards”
Since Illustrator 29.6, Paste in Front / Paste in Back / Paste in Place now pastes to all currently selected artboards. While this is a useful feature, it introduces a hidden prerequisite — the artboard selection state — that causes unexpected behavior in everyday workflows.
Problems
- When zoomed in, other artboards move off-screen, making their selection state visually undetectable. The only way to check which artboards are selected is to open the Artboards panel — an extra step that interrupts the workflow every time before pasting.
- If multiple artboards are unintentionally left selected (e.g., after using the Artboard tool), paste…

Allow legacy behavior for "Rearrange Artboards"
While I'm sure some people welcome Illustrator's new features for rearranging the artboards, I have found it to be finicky and weird. There should be an option that defaults to the center of the work area, like it used to do automatically. This new behavior, of having to select where the artboards go just complicates a once simple process.
92 votesStarting with Beta 29.7.1 the Rearrange dialog got a separate dedicated feature, currently called 'Align Manually'.
With it disabled, artboards get positioned instantly in the center of the canvas, as it behaved previously.
When this is enabled, you will enter the positioning mode after pressing OK — to allow rearranging only some artboards, to address this request.
With more than 1 artboard selected (but not all), the mode gets enabled automatically (and becomes locked).

Allow to disable Rich Tool Tips right from the rich tool tips
'How to hide these popups for tools?' is one of the most common questions I see here and there (the most popular being 'how to show the resizing frame back?').
The answer is 'disable Show Rich Tool Tips in Preferences > General', but it requires knowledge, and Ai never directs new users there. What if we could just CLOSE one or all hints right there, in a hint itself?

Give the choice to change the export resolution with or without changing the number of pixels.
When exporting as an image llustrator will always change the pixel amount when you set a resolution higher or lower than 72 ppi. Photoshop has an option that is missing in Illustrator, the option to check/uncheck “Resample” when changing the resolution. When Unchecked only the ppi metatadata is changed and the pixel amount stays the same. When checked Photoshop behaves like Illustrator does and changes the amount of pixels when the resolution is changed. It would be a welcome addition to have this choice in Illustrator.

Allow to choose if the Save dialog should "remember the last file format used / PDF is set as a default filetype when saving a new document
Ever since last update, if i save off a pdf and then create a brand new doc and go to save it, it goes to PDF automatically when it used to always default to .ai so i forget and get to the PDF options and then have to cancel and go back and retype my file name which is just annoying and remembering the last format is not helpful. Almost as annoying as PS trying to export in the last export location instead of the same folder as the .PSD --- NOT HELPFUL

Ai 29.634 votesHi everyone,
In the latest BETA 30.0.21, we’ve improved the ‘Save As’ workflow.
Now, instead of remembering the last used format, the default will always be .AI.
We made this change to ensure that your files are consistently saved in the native Illustrator format, which is the most reliable option for preserving full editability.
Please try out he changes by downloading the latest BETA from the Creative Cloud and let us know if it helps you or not.

Text frame coordinates are different "before undo" and "after redo"
Version: Illustrator 29.7.1 (but occurs in earlier versions as well)
Problem:
Text frame coordinates become inconsistent after undo and redo.Reproduction Steps:
1. Create point text with two or more paragraphs
2. Move arbitrarily (required)
3. Resize (using the dialog of Scale tool)
4. Undo
5. Redo
In the above steps, the result of step 5 is different from the result of step 3.Desired Result:
Steps 3 and 5 must match〈にほんご〉

Continuous Line via Length and Angle
Create a variant of the line tool that you can continuously add a segment via entering length and angle in a tool options dialogue box. It would stay open and follow you around on your screen until you click okay/finish/done. Just a small box with length and angle options.

Please add an option for the Recolor panel / dialog to remember the chosen settings
Proposed by Daté Tetegan
It would also be useful to maintain all the Recolor Artwork panel’s active preferences when it is closed.
For example, when you choose to load a colour palette to limit colour changes to the colours in that palette, if you close the panel and then reopen it, the preference is lost, and you have to reselect the palette every time.
This is a waste of time that is frustrating and reduces productivity. I have noticed that all the panel’s options are not preserved when the panel is closed.
This recolor artwork panel is a great powerful…4 votes -
Do not advertise and insert the Turntable within the Transform panel
I understand Ai want to advertise generative features more.
But putting the Turntable button (a 'speculative gambling machine') into the Transform panel (a dedicated panel about coordinates, sizes, 'parametric parameters' (sorry for the pun)) — is not OK.There are plenty of other places.
A generative menu, Control (where we can disable in with customizing a panel), in Properties’ Quick Actions (that we can keep below the line... why not customize? — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31999108), or CTB (why there’s no customization here also? — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49235456)...Thanks to Seiji Miyazawa (here: https://x.com/onthehead/status/2043652813054783936) for noticing this.

Make zooming in respect the text insertion point (text cursor)
With or without the Zoom to Selection option (in Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display), zooming in (I use Cmd/Ctrl+Plus a lot when I edit text) into the edited text won’t respect the blinking cursor’s position. So If I decided to zoom into a text I’m editing, Ai would just zoom in the middle, hiding my point of interest out of the view.
Thanks to Brian Wood for bringing the attention to it.More of it — if I START typing (or press an arrow button), hoping for the view to adjust (like it used to do) — it won’t…

Relative math operations with defined and mixed values in input fields
When you have several objects with different parameters in your selection, Illustrator would show nothing in the input field controlling this parameter.
For example, if you have two paths selected, one having 1 pt stroke weight, and another with 4 pt — Ai would show nothing in Weight in Stroke panel, meaning it’s a 'mixed value'.What if we could focus this field, type '+5' in it, and get 1+5=6 for one path and 4+5=9 for the other?
Why not making it work for similar value as well? Instead of putting the cursor after the, say '2.25 pt' and type…

Retention of fillable form areas when editing and saving an existing PDF.
Illustrator used to retain fillable form areas when editing and saving an existing PDF. Pretty please. We need that feature back. It's wasting a lot of production time recreating the form fields. When you open and edit graphics in an existing PDF in Illustrator, the instant you save the file (not "Save As...", just "Save") all of the fillable fields are erased.
Since it's all Adobe, why can't they work seamlessly like they used to?2 votes -
Add an ability to Select Subject to intelligently identify the main subject, as in Photoshop
I hope Illustrator can also have a feature like Photoshop’s “Select Subject,” to quickly and intelligently identify the main subject in an image and select it with one click.

Remove the window below the artboards that reads "Select an artboard with graphics and try Generative Expand to extend the artboard"
With whatever update came out, there is now a message that reads "Select an artboard with graphics and try Generative Expand to extend the artboard" on the artboards panel. This limits how many artboards you can see, and I am a person who has files with 40+. I tried using the feature to see if it would get rid of the message, but it still sits there. Please make this message removeable so I can get back to a quicker workflow and see all my artboards without having to scroll precisely. Thank you!

White Canvas with Artboard Tool
The Canvas is turning white every time I use the Artboard tool. Please remove this feature and leave the original Canvas colour. I use the Artboard tool very often, and the Canvas is turning white every time, making my screen flash from grey to white. This is bad for the eyes.
2 votesThis got solved with enabling the 'Fade region outside Artboard' back in the Artboard Options dialog.

Group color handles in the Recolor panel’s Edit mode
It would be great if we could select colors in the Edit mode of the Recolor dialog and group them together so they will be linked and move as one.
Right now, they're all linked, and we can unlink a single color from the rest, but there's no way to dynamically group sets of colors. In this example, for instance, it would be nice to group a bunch of them by hue (the reds, the greens, the purples) or by value (the light green & pink as one group, the dark purple, red, and green as another group, etc), or…4 votes -
Save to cloud dialog: files in folder not visible
The new update(s) does not bring back the feature to view files in the folders and in grid view when saving to cloud. This has been causing a lot of problems and inconvenience. Reported few times and have been told that these will be brought back in the next update, but it never did. Frustrating and annoyed.

Symmetrical Anchor Point Handles snapping
It would be incredibly helpful if the handles of an anchor point could be positioned symmetrically and equidistant, as shown in the attached image. This feature would streamline the design process by eliminating the need to create half a path, copy it, and mirror it.
Thank you for considering this feature request!

Tab now shifts to toggle buttons in Layers Panel instead of renaming the next layer
In the newest update (29.6) the layers panel has some changes. When you hover over the toggle buttons, they highlight. Before updating, I could double-click to rename my layer, then hit Tab to rename the next layer. Now, Tab just moves to the toggle buttons and the tools at the bottom of the panel. I think this should be adjusted back to make renaming layers a smoother process.
