  1. Adding an option to turn off generative AI expand for images in the crop function

Since updating to 30.4, any time I attempt to crop an image (very often due to shrinking embedded photos for the correct DPI) if I unintentionally make the crop selection too large, it no longer snaps to the corners like it used to, but defaults to generative AI. I never want to generate. Will there be a way to turn this function off in preferences? It is affecting my workflow to the point of having to downgrade back to 30.3.

  3. Files saved to an older version (CS6, or lower) using 30.2.1 build give errors when opening in older versions

After the last update, saving an .ai file in version CS5 or lower and then trying to open it in Illustrator CS5 results in an error: invalid operator: "<fffe>"

  4. Add an ON/OFF toggle button in the Artboards panel to enable/disable “Paste on Selected Artboards”

Since Illustrator 29.6, Paste in Front / Paste in Back / Paste in Place now pastes to all currently selected artboards. While this is a useful feature, it introduces a hidden prerequisite — the artboard selection state — that causes unexpected behavior in everyday workflows.

    Problems

    1. When zoomed in, other artboards move off-screen, making their selection state visually undetectable. The only way to check which artboards are selected is to open the Artboards panel — an extra step that interrupts the workflow every time before pasting.
    2. If multiple artboards are unintentionally left selected (e.g., after using the Artboard tool), paste…

  5. Allow legacy behavior for "Rearrange Artboards"

While I'm sure some people welcome Illustrator's new features for rearranging the artboards, I have found it to be finicky and weird. There should be an option that defaults to the center of the work area, like it used to do automatically. This new behavior, of having to select where the artboards go just complicates a once simple process.

Starting with Beta 29.7.1 the Rearrange dialog got a separate dedicated feature, currently called 'Align Manually'.

With it disabled, artboards get positioned instantly in the center of the canvas, as it behaved previously.

When this is enabled, you will enter the positioning mode after pressing OK — to allow rearranging only some artboards, to address this request.

With more than 1 artboard selected (but not all), the mode gets enabled automatically (and becomes locked).

  6. Add an ability to embed locked, hidden images at once, and allow embedding with a mixed selection

When there are many images that are in the documents and you are preparing to embed all of them, it would save a lot of time if we didn't have to manually deselect those images that are already embedded. Plus when all images are selected to be embedded, we do also want the locked or hidden version to be too instead of having to unlock manually, embedding them and then locking again.
    Thank you in advance.

  7. Allow to disable Rich Tool Tips right from the rich tool tips

'How to hide these popups for tools?' is one of the most common questions I see here and there (the most popular being 'how to show the resizing frame back?').
The answer is 'disable Show Rich Tool Tips in Preferences > General', but it requires knowledge, and Ai never directs new users there.

What if we could just CLOSE one or all hints right there, in a hint itself?

  8. AI Design Merge for Symbols: Apply Structural Changes While Preserving Style

In symbol-based workflows (common in apparel and accessories), designers often create multiple variations of the same base illustration.

Typically: One version introduces a design change (e.g., updated shape or component)
Another introduces a style change (e.g., color or material)

There is currently no efficient way to merge these selectively across symbols.
    Proposed Feature:
An AI-assisted “Design Merge” tool that compares two objects or symbols and allows users to selectively merge:
    Structural changes (geometry, proportions, components)
    Appearance attributes (color, stroke, effects)

    Example:
    Symbol A: square pocket, black
    Symbol B: rectangular pocket, pink
    Desired result:
    → square pocket, pink

  9. Change labels for Align buttons to match the reference line rather than a position change

The labels that pop-up over the align panel are wrong!
Well, when one wants to align objects left, right or centre – the aligning reference (imaginary) line is vertical, isn't it? Then why are they called "Horizontal Align"? And vice-versa for aligning objects top, centre and bottom. What's the reasoning behind this? Dyslexia?

  10. Improve how Links panel works with images placed in opacity masks

In Ai opacity masks are powerful, but behave as a parallel reality we don’t have any control until we go there. Many workflows are crippled because of this, but here’s just one.

    Look at the GIF.
I have a document with two linked images.
One is just placed on canvas, another one live inside of the opacity mask for a path.

The Links panel shows me both images (fair), but I don’t know which one lives in the 'secret opacity dimension'.
Then, if I select an image in the panel and click 'Go to Link', Ai would select the image…

  11. Shortcut for removing many selected points on an object without breaking the shape into a line

It would be great if there was a shortcut key for removing selected anchor points while maintaining status as a shape object.

I could be simply not aware of the shortcut key for it, but it's frustrating to select anchor points and hit backspace/delete, only for the shape to break into a line. When it breaks into a line, it's no longer a viable target for the pathfinder tool, and you can't easily turn it back into a shape once it's a line.

Even better would be if there was also a shortcut key (maybe an ALT or SHIFT in…

  12. Give the choice to change the export resolution with or without changing the number of pixels.

When exporting as an image llustrator will always change the pixel amount when you set a resolution higher or lower than 72 ppi. Photoshop has an option that is missing in Illustrator, the option to check/uncheck “Resample” when changing the resolution. When Unchecked only the ppi metatadata is changed and the pixel amount stays the same. When checked Photoshop behaves like Illustrator does and changes the amount of pixels when the resolution is changed. It would be a welcome addition to have this choice in Illustrator.

  13. Illustrator 2025 (29.8.7) flatten layers of PDF saved in version 2026 (30.5.1)

Let's say you have Illustrator 2026 (30.5.1) and you save an artwork as PDF preserving editing capabilities, the artwork has layers, some of them are hidden.
When you reopen the artwork in the same Illustrator version all layers are in place and you can continue to edit the artwork.

In the save as Ai dialog it appears that the Illustrator file format is the same from 2020, but if you open the same PDF with Illustrator 2025 (29.8.7) or Illustrator 2024 (28.7.10) all layers content collapse to a single layer (Layer 1) and the objects inside hidden layers are lost.

  14. Do not advertise and insert the Turntable within the Transform panel

I understand Ai want to advertise generative features more.
But putting the Turntable button (a 'speculative gambling machine') into the Transform panel (a dedicated panel about coordinates, sizes, 'parametric parameters' (sorry for the pun)) — is not OK.

There are plenty of other places.
A generative menu, Control (where we can disable in with customizing a panel), in Properties’ Quick Actions (that we can keep below the line... why not customize? — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31999108), or CTB (why there’s no customization here also? — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49235456)...

Thanks to Seiji Miyazawa (here: https://x.com/onthehead/status/2043652813054783936) for noticing this.

  15. macOS makes relinking missing links harder

On Windows, when opening a file with missing linked images, the user can simply select the target folder in the file dialog and click the active Replace button. The system automatically locates the first missing image by name within that folder. (See: windows-missing-links.mp4)

On macOS, however, the behavior differs significantly: after selecting the folder, the Replace button remains inactive. The user is then forced to manually locate and select the exact file by name from within the folder in order to activate the button — an unnecessary extra click.

This becomes a major productivity bottleneck in projects with dozens of…

  16. Allow to choose if the Save dialog should "remember the last file format used / PDF is set as a default filetype when saving a new document

Ever since last update, if i save off a pdf and then create a brand new doc and go to save it, it goes to PDF automatically when it used to always default to .ai so i forget and get to the PDF options and then have to cancel and go back and retype my file name which is just annoying and remembering the last format is not helpful. Almost as annoying as PS trying to export in the last export location instead of the same folder as the .PSD --- NOT HELPFUL

    Ai 29.6

    Hi everyone,

In the latest BETA 30.0.21, we’ve improved the ‘Save As’ workflow.

Now, instead of remembering the last used format, the default will always be .AI.

We made this change to ensure that your files are consistently saved in the native Illustrator format, which is the most reliable option for preserving full editability.

Please try out he changes by downloading the latest BETA from the Creative Cloud and let us know if it helps you or not.

  18. When using direct select tool to adjust anchor points and handles, keep all anchor points and handles visible

When using direct select tool to adjust anchor points and handles, please keep ALL anchor points and handles visible, as opposed to everything disappearing but the point/handle you are working with. It is impossible and frustrating to try to join/snap to anchor points, or adjust points or handles relative to other points or handles when you can’t see them!. Thank you!

  19. Warichu’s Adjustment value is limited to an integer in point

Confirmed in Illustrator 30.3.0 and CS4.
It's probably a problem that occurs in all past versions.

The "Warichu" using for vertical writing text, under use in Japanese environment.
The adjustment value is set only to integers of points and it is very troubling.
In that state, I can only do a rough job too much.
I would like to improve so that more detailed values can be set.

    <Japanese>
    Illustrator 30.3.0 および 14 (CS4) で確認済み。
    おそらく過去のどのバージョンでも発生する問題です。

    割注設定の行間がPoint整数値ごとにしか設定できない。
    これでは大雑把な仕事しかできない。
    細かい値を設定できるよう改善して欲しい。

    また、テキストオブジェクトの拡大・縮小に追従されない。

    <検証手順>
    1. テキストに割注を設定し、行間をpoint以外の整数などにする
    2. 割注設定を再び開いて値を確認する

    1. 割注の行間に目安となる長方形を作成
    2. テキストと長方形を選択して拡大・縮小

    <結果>
    2. 値がpoint整数値に四捨五入されている
    4. 割注の行間は長方形とずれてゆく

    <理想とされる結果>
    2. 割注の行間は入力した値をキープすること
    4. 割注の行間はテキストと同様に拡大・縮小されること

  20. Please add an option for the Recolor panel / dialog to remember the chosen settings

    Proposed by Daté Tetegan

It would also be useful to maintain all the Recolor Artwork panel’s active preferences when it is closed.
For example, when you choose to load a colour palette to limit colour changes to the colours in that palette, if you close the panel and then reopen it, the preference is lost, and you have to reselect the palette every time.
This is a waste of time that is frustrating and reduces productivity. I have noticed that all the panel’s options are not preserved when the panel is closed.
This recolor artwork panel is a great powerful…
