1. Illustrator Deserves a new Align Tool and Align Mode (with preview)

   Imagine a tool that sits in the Tool Panel used for complex alignment. When you click the tool, Illustrator would enter an Align Mode that changed the way some things operate the way Isolation Mode changes things when activated.

   In Align Mode, a panel would be displayed with options (below) Your cursor would allow you to select not only the elements you want to align, but also the point of reference for alignment. You would see the standard boundary box appear when selecting an element, but you could click one of the 9 reference points on the bounding box to indicate that you want to align that element by that point. Once you have all of your elements selected, you can ALT-click an element to act as the Destination. It will display the bounds box for the Destination element and let you pick the reference point from the 9 reference points in the bounding box.

   In a side panel, you would have options that controlled how this would happen. For example. you could have the Ghost Result option selected to show what your alignment would look like by aligning the selected elements to the destination as ghosted previews (transparent). But you could also Ghost Source so you would see solid previews of your aligned items while the original positions would be ghosted. When it looks the way you want, click the apply button to apply the alignment.

   This is one small piece of a much bigger and much more robust tool that would allow you to do all sorts of advanced alignment. Like Transform Alignments that matched size and/or rotations. It would allow you to do non-lineart distributions for distributing things like position, size, rotation. It would also allow you to see a distribution path between elements that you could micro adjust before applying. You could even change the distribution model so it did non-linear easing. All of this in one tool with the Align Mode. When you activate a different tool, you would exit Align Mode just like exiting Isolation Mode.

   I have looked at all of the align/distribute user voice requests and every single one would benefit from this system. Please contact me for more information. I'm working on a demo to show how easy this would be.

2. Allow Users to Change the Default Save Location Behavior

   In other production software, there is a preferences setting that allows users to change whether the program will open the file explorer relative to the current file's save location or to remember where it was last opened to.
   This feature is sorely missing from Illustrator and causes me loads of headaches when exporting assets for multiple clients in rapid succession.
   To make things worse, if you use the Asset Export window (Export for Screens), the "Export to:" filepath will prepopulate to the last location that that particular file saved to. If you click the folder icon to the right of it, you would expect the file explorer to open in that directory. But it does not. Instead, it opens in the last place Illustrator exported assets to, regardless of the active file.
   This is counterintuitive, and I often have to backtrack to find assets that I for sure thought I exported, but turns out they were sent to a seemingly random folder.
   Please let us choose whether or not Illustrator will open the file browser relative to the active file's location or whether Illustrator will remember where it last saved a file regardless of active file.

3. A way to measure the area used by the bounding box, not only shapes within

   I noticed that there is a Measure by Area tool, but it measures the print area. We would like the area it forms that considers the selection rectangle.

4. Allow to reposition buttons in the Align panel

   Recently Ai Beta added the Full Align button in the Align panel, following this request: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/34796770

   Works perfectly, great icon for it too — my only extra beg is that the order of the align buttons can be amended, so I can drag them into an order that works for ease of use :)

5. Please update the Glyph Panel with a search feature for icon tags in icon fonts.

   Currently, if I create a text block to add an icon-font, the default placeholder text prevents the icon font from being displayed in the Glyphs pallet. I have to delete the placeholder text just to see the Glyphs.

   But more importantly, I spend a great deal of time digging through these icon fonts to find the icon I need.

   What would be ideal is if you would enhance the Glyphs pallet to include a simple text field that would allow me to search within an icon font (or really any font) for a specific character tag.

   The enclosed image shows how the Glyph panel could look. You would add a search field to the top of the panel where I could type in an icon search term. In this case "arrow". All of the icons in the font with the tag "arrow" would be highlighted in yellow.

   If I select an icon, it turns blue and the associated tags are displayed at the bottom. In this case, I searched for arrow, but wanted the play button. So I could click the Tag button and add the "arrow" tag to that icon for future reference. If I wanted to delete a tag from a font, the popup tag menu would allow me to delete the tag (as well as the close button on the tag itself).

   Also, notice that this would allow me to view as a standard glyph table as well as a taglist table. The icons would run vertically in a column with their associated tags to the right of them.

   By maintaining the font-icon-tag list in a simple json file or xml or whatever, you could allow new icon font makers to tag their own fonts for convenience. You would only have to tag the fonts in the Adobe Font Library, which I would volunteer to do if it would help make this possible.

   If someone added an icon font that had no tags, they would be able to add their own tags.

6. Add an ON/OFF toggle button in the Artboards panel to enable/disable “Paste on Selected Artboards”

   Since Illustrator 29.6, Paste in Front / Paste in Back / Paste in Place now pastes to all currently selected artboards. While this is a useful feature, it introduces a hidden prerequisite — the artboard selection state — that causes unexpected behavior in everyday workflows.

   Problems

   1. When zoomed in, other artboards move off-screen, making their selection state visually undetectable. The only way to check which artboards are selected is to open the Artboards panel — an extra step that interrupts the workflow every time before pasting.
   2. If multiple artboards are unintentionally left selected (e.g., after using the Artboard tool), paste operations silently affect more artboards than intended.
   3. There is no scripting API to get or set the artboard selection state, causing ExtendScript and AppleScript workflows that include paste operations to behave incorrectly.

   Proposed solution

   Add a toggle button directly in the Artboards panel to turn “Paste on Selected Artboards” on or off. This makes the current mode immediately visible in context, allows switching without opening Preferences, and gives scripters a reliable way to disable the feature before running automated paste operations.

   This would be consistent with similar per-panel toggles elsewhere in Illustrator, and allows the new feature to coexist with existing workflows.

   Illustrator 29.6以降、「前面へペースト」「背面へペースト」「同じ位置にペースト」が、現在選択中のすべてのアートボードに対して実行されるようになりました。これ自体は有用な機能ですが、「アートボードの選択状態」という新たな隠れた前提条件が加わったことで、日常的なワークフローで予期しない動作が起きやすくなっています。

   問題点

   1. 拡大表示中は他のアートボードが画面外に出てしまうため、それらの選択状態を画面上で確認することができない。ペースト前に毎回アートボードパネルを開いて確認するしかなく、作業が中断される。

   アートボードパネルに「選択したアートボードにペースト」のON/OFFトグルボタンを追加してください。現在のモードをその場で確認・切り替えでき、環境設定を開く必要もありません。スクリプト実行前に手動でオフにするといった運用も可能になります。

   Illustrator内の他のパネルにある同様のトグル操作と一貫性があり、新機能と既存ワークフローの共存を実現できます。

8. Show the number of all and selected layers in the document

   Please add an indicator showing both the total number of layers in the document and the number of layers currently selected for potential operations, in the bottom-left corner of the Layers panel.
   Attached you will find a screenshot illustrating a possible implementation of this feature.

   I am confident that you will consider this proposal carefully and evaluate the integration of this functionality into Adobe Illustrator, helping make the user experience even more efficient and intuitive.

9. Error con el cambio de tipografía.

   Resulta que cuando creo un cuadro de texto (cualquier opción) voy a la barra lateral derecha y cambio la tipografía no la toma, es decir vuelve y cambia a la que esta configurada por defecto, pasa con archivos nuevos y con archivos antiguos, cambie en configuración el tipo de letra, borre la memoria cache, y algunas otras cosas y siguió igual. lo único que me funciono fue poner una nueva barra de herramientas en la parte superior y desde ahí si me deja modificar y cambiar a cualquier tipografía sin ningún inconveniente. El tema es que visual mente y por espacio de trabajo no se me acomoda esa barra arriba, Ayuda con esa corrección porfavor, mi versión actual es V 30.2.1

    Illustrator’s "Align to Artboard" should be viewport-aware.

    Currently, if I’m zoomed in on Artboard 10 but Artboard 1 is technically "active," objects fly off-screen to Artboard 1 when I hit align. This is counter-intuitive and forces a constant cycle of "Undo" (Ctrl+Z) and manual clicking to re-activate the correct board.

    Proposed Solution:
    Add a setting for "Align to Nearest/Visible Artboard." The software should automatically align to the artboard the user is currently looking at or the one the object is physically overlapping, without requiring a manual click to "activate" it first.

    Make the alignment tool smart enough to understand the user's current context.

11. Keep the Spacing value active when you have 1 artboard in New Document dialog

    I often start with 1 artboard only in a new document (and I create these using classic dialog, because it’s faster than the modern one). There is a bug with the value used from a previous session (like 20 mm I love) looses precision (becoming 19.999 mm)...     But even with this bug fixed, I don’t see why this field should be disabled.
    I can see why Columns is, and other options in these section... but the Spacing GETS used when you create a new artboard LATER — and Ai offers now way to set one (and I requested to be able to here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/43218936)

    The only way to tweak this value after a document is created is to Rearrange... and it’s allowed only with at least 2 artboards. So I have to create one with a wrong spacing first, and then perform rearranging I don’t need, risking to ruin my layout and design and grid, only to change a value?

    This is stupid.

12. Continuous Line via Length and Angle

    Create a variant of the line tool that you can continuously add a segment via entering length and angle in a tool options dialogue box. It would stay open and follow you around on your screen until you click okay/finish/done. Just a small box with length and angle options.

13. DATA MERGE . File Names from CSV

    REPEATEDLY NOTICED NOT YET AVAILABLE FEATURE
    It would be tremendously helpful, if we could name exported files via the CSV-file used for data merge, so we can have actual full names, instead „Data Set 1“, … „Data Set 217“.

    ISSUE
    Data Merge exports are being exported without customized file names, which is a major time issue, when dealing with large scale data merge exports.

    SUGGESTED SOLUTION
    Giving users in the VARIABLES -> VARIABLE OPTIONS menu the option to assign „FILE NAME“ to a variable via TYPE, and make this accessible to the ACTIONS when exporting via BATCH.

    WHY
    More effective and efficient turnaround, faster delivery to systems or clients using predetermined/required file naming conventions.

14. Allow selecting layers’ colors directly in the Layers panel

    In the Layers panel would be useful to select a layer color directly from a dropdown list or something like that, instead of double clicking the layer and then choosing a different color.

15. Make fields respect units entered

    When creating a new document, it is annoying having to select the units from a drop down.
    Why not just respect the units the user enters: 1920px, 210mm, 10cm, 5"

    Typing this in the input field:
    1920px
    when the dropdown is set to centimeters,
    results in 67.7333 cm

    It's contra intuitive, even more since the result has the unit typed in the input field.

    My request:
    Please make this smart: when typing 1920px, the unit should change to pixels,, when typing 10cm, the unit should change to cm.

16. Add a forced 'lowercase' option in the Character panel’s menu, similar to one InDesign has

    InDesign has a way to force a selected text to be always displayed in lowercase.
    Illustrator does not offer this option, as the attached screenshots show.
    This option would be useful for cases when a font relies mostly on lower-case characters, using its upper case for emphasis, rather than a traditional usage of it, for starting sentences and given names with capitals — not uncommon in comics.
    A current workaround is to run the native Type > Change Case > lowercase each time a text gets pasted (or setting up a custom routing with third-party apps to change the text in clipboard automatically). Anyway, the InDesign’s approach is much simpler, please match the function set it has.

17. In artboard mode enable unit of measure in Distribute Spacing using Align panel

    Recently Artboard mode added support for the Align panel’s Distribute commands, which is great, however I can't type in the unit box for distribute. This is surely a quick fix to just enable that box when in ARTBOARD Mode.

    I find myself needing to set spacing between artboards all the time, and the rearrange tool does not always work, because it just sets the same distance between multiple artboards.

    I have found many scenarios where rearrange does not work, because I have different artboards of different sizes stacked on top and below and left and right.

    What I really need is to be able to quickly select 2 or more artboards and to be able to quickly set spacing between them, align distribute tool is the best for this in normal mode.

    Recently Artboard mode added support for the Align panel’s Distribute commands, which is great, however I can't type in the unit box for distribute. This is surely a quick fix to just enable that box when in ARTBOARD Mode.

    I find myself needing to set spacing between artboards all the time, and the rearrange tool does not always work, because it just sets the same distance between multiple artboards.

    I have found many scenarios where rearrange does not work, because I have different artboards of different sizes stacked on top and below and left and right.

    What I really need… more

18. Allow to see what file has changes when opened/imported, and allow to bulk the choice

    When I try to open several .ai documents at once (many at once), Ai warns me about the changes someone made to some of these.
    ...but it doesn’t show me clearly what document this warning refers to (no, look at the 'the current tab' is not clear enough) and won’t allow me to apply this choice to all the document I open, forcing me to click like dozens of times. This is murky and exhausting.

19. Saving custom templates/workspaces that SAVE BRUSHES + SWATCHES WE HAVE CUSTOMIZED

    At the moment, anytime I create a new document I have to re-load in my customized brushes and swatch workspace. There is no ability to save a custom workspace with the brushes+swatches how I want it. I also cannot do this via saving a custom template, which seems like the logical thing to do.

    It's such a small thing, but it's a bit silly that I have to dig through my desktop files anytime I need my own brushes/saved swatches/saved template. I'm a professional who sends off custom files over to factories all the time and it slows me down quite a bit. I have to go in and delete all the unneeded brushes/swatches and load in my own every single time. Thanks! <3

20. A way to delete all unnecessary handles on straight lines

    I want a way to delete all unnecessary handles on straight lines Join tool create (here’s a bug report: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/51071002).
    I want to select all of those and make them lines in one click. It is very time consuming to take care of each individually.
