An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedIt would be incredibly useful to be able to align live text to other elements by cap height, x-height, baseline, descender/ ascender etc... and of course while ignoring sidebearings/ metrics/ spacing.
Similar to hanging quotations/ punctuation horizontally, it's often useful to treat descenders, ascenders, caps etc... similarly. It's something I compensate for nearly every day at work, and it seems like it'd be simple math for AI.

Latest versions of Illustrator have an exact solution for that.
Open Align panel, and enable Align to Glyph Bounds option in the panel’s menu, for point or area text or both.
The bounding box will remain the same, but the text will now align to and by its actual bounds, just like you want.
Please comment back if it works for you.

The ability to convert outline text into live text will be available through the 'Retype' feature we recently shipped. The released version can identify fonts for now. Soon it will allow you to edit it as well. More details: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/retype.html

You can align to an object you choose to be the key one.. Click the object you want to use as a key the second time and Ai will use a bolder edge to highlight it.

Starting from the February 2024 release, version 28.3, this option is no longer enabled by default for new documents. If you had hyphenation enabled in an existing document, Ai will respect this.

We have passed this request along to Grammarly and that while Grammarly thought it would be useful, they’re unable to prioritize it at this time.

- Dimensions and Resolution with options similar to PS image size
- automated file naming, folder creation (year_parentfilename_#_dimensions.pdf, ParentFileFolder > Color > AI, PDF, SVG, PNG etc...)
- Presets
- Include export to AI
- Improve Artboard naming and include in automated naming.Ballpark similar to TheLogoPackage.com

Great news, thank you Egor, appreciate the tips will do!
In this case, admittedly mostly interested in paste without formatting. The menu or screen could keep it organized, albeit while adding another click/ or hiding things. I'm not sure what the right call on this front would be.
Why: Paste without formatting is something I use all the time in InDesign and most programs, I expect it, and was surprised to find it missing in illustrator.
