We have done further updates to Dimension tool with recently released version - 28.3
You can create and use your custom scale for dimension, hide or show units on dimensions and dimensions are now sticky to the object - they transform as well when you transform the object.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dina Dembicki commentedSo, I actually had a chance to check this feature out, trying to make a drawing for a custom mouse pad for an irregularly shaped desk.
As someone who doesn't do dimensioning on a regular basis, and has no CAD experience, here are my thoughts:
1. Obviously, a way to change the measurement to mm, pts, in, etc. And an option to provide more than one kind of unit (say, inches and centimeters).
2. Personally, I could do without the rainbow of layer colors, so maybe a way to set layer colors, either by selecting the layer and changing all the sub layer colors (without having to set them individually), or a way to specify a layer color for all in the presets. (This would be nice to have for all kinds of layers, actually, would come in handy when you move things to different layers.)
3. When applying dimensions, a way to measured the whole item (a path, whether closed or not) without having to group it, not just from point to point.
4. A way to measure and indicate angles (had to dig out the protractor, LOL)
That's all for now. I'll come back and edit this if needed as I get further into it.

Another question then: does the CADtools plugin create the lines with arrowheads at each end and input the dimension, all automatically? And I take it there is native AI art involved with these dimensions (which is why it's in AI to begin with)? This would certainly be useful, no question about that.
The way they market AI is so illustration-centric, one can forget how functional it is on the non-creative side. I wonder how they decide which ideas to explore further... (whew different convo.)
An error occurred while saving the comment Dina Dembicki commentedPlaying a little devil's advocate here... if you (users) need so much CAD-like functionality, why are you not using a CAD application? In Illustrator, if you know what size you need to make something you can draw a shape with particular dimensions. If you want the dimensions of a particular thing, you can select it and see the measurements in the tool bar. If you want to draw at a smaller dimension, you can scale to whatever percentage you need with one of the transform tools. When I endorsed this idea, it was about a simple drag and measure function, nothing so complex as what's being discussed here. One application cannot be all things to all people. But I get it. In my world we use AI for both creative execution and print prepress and these tools would probably be useful once in production.

An error occurred while saving the comment Dina Dembicki commentedSeconded. If both lists in the dialog box are in alphabetical order it will make it easier and therefore faster to find/replace the missing ones. Also, when the missing font is replaced, the list of missing fonts should not default back to the top of the list.

An error occurred while saving the comment Dina Dembicki commentedSeconded!! With Ventura, Apple doesn't allow the system fonts to be removed at all. If the foreign language fonts could be hidden it would be absolute heaven!!

I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 27.3.1 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.

Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!

Don't we already have this? In the align palette, with Distribute Spacing, you can specify how much space between two or more items. If you set it to zero, they touch. Or, am I missing something?
