Brandon, so far I can advise to use this free script from Sergey Osokin to do that: https://github.com/creold/illustrator-scripts/blob/master/md/Artboard.md#batchrenamer

Please comment back if it works for you.

Meanwhile you can use Batch Text Edit script or native Find and Replace.

This can be done with Variables manually, somewhat easier with the Variable Importer script, but the method generally sucks.

Limitations of it are described here (and Vasily Hall, the author of the script, comments there):

There is a native workaround to deal with it and a third-party automated solution.

To force Ai to rotate a coordinate system with the view, you have to go to Preferences > General and edit the Constrain Angle value. Put a negative angle in the field — so, if you rotated the view 37°, put minus 37°. When you do that, hitting arrow keys will result moving the artwork in a proper direction, and new shapes created will be drawn properly.

Unfortunately, the marquee you get when drag with selection tools will stay rotated — this is a separate issue.

An automated solution would be using DirectPrefs plugin from Astute Graphics. Open its preferences (in the panel’s menu and enable Show Constrain Lock option. This will add a small button on the panel. Once you press it, the plugin will automatically sync the rotation angle and the constrain angle.

Take a look at the screenshot.
The plugin is free, once you register.

Elenit, yes, true, the team is aware of the disconnection you describe and it is under review.
To make most of tools work unrotated when the view is, you need to change Constrain Angle value to be a negative of you current view angle (e.g. minus 15 for 15). So far manually, but it’s going to be automated. If you can’t wait, you can use a similar option in DirectPrefs plugin form AstuteGraphics’ plugins pack — it matches the values for you in background.

AstuteGraphics plugin pack has a plugin called DirectPrefs, that has Constraint Lock option. Once enabled, it counter-matches the Constrain Angle set in general preferences, giving you the grid that is always orthogonal to a view, which makes arrow keys work orthogonal as well.

Sure it must work from the box.

You can move the view with PageUp/PageDown and modifier keys: Ctrl to scroll horizontally instead of vertically, Alt to use smaller steps instead of large. These require two hands (unless you use the right one) though...

As for the view rotation... I’d propose to use Shift (I think it does nothing now but dings). Will it work for you?

Not sure if arrows keys should be modal for that, but that is my preference.

It can, but it still can’t do it automatically.
See, it is not the canvas that is rotating, but a 'camera' looking at it, a viewport. The axis is still at 0, and arrows work accordingly.

To do what you want, you should copy the angle of the view rotation, open Preferences: General and set the negative of the copied value to the Constrain Angle field. Turn on the grid to see if it 'straight' now.

I am considering this request as 'Allow Ai to counter-sync Constrain Angle with the rotation of the view' :)

    Oh, this is unfortunate :(
Does it happen for all the files you have?

Try to reset preferences first and reply back on how it goes then:

Yeah, I get it now. The stack does not behave.
This can be a shared problem, so pleased do contact AG directly in case they can offer a fix from their side.

Well, perhaps a custom made SVG filter is used, right?
I mistook it for Astute Graphics’ Duotone effect. Sorry, I should have read it with more attention than I had.

    Hey, interesting.
But why do you call a Phantasm effect 'an SVG filter'? It is a third-party tool by Astute Graphics, so I will re-address this issue to them.

Dave, there is workaround I can offer, a free set of custom scripts by 3flab:
    https://onthehead.com/ais/
    Scroll down to View section.
You can wrap these into actions and use instead of native hotkeys.
They are now perfect, but worth trying.
Please comment back if they help and how does it differ from what you want.

There is a workaround we can use, with a set of scripts:
https://onthehead.com/ais/ — scroll down to View section
    Display next/prev artboard in center
    Display neighbor artboard in center
    Display first/last artboard in center

Not exactly that, but does the trick. Unfortunately, this is not that fast as native commands. Still worth trying.

Sarah, Ian, does it still happen for you?
Whatever I try to replicate this, won’t work.
So you say Ai ignores the zoom level you had on a certain document, replacing it with a zoom value from the document you just switched from?
Can you please check if it is a problem now and correct me if I understood it wrong?

What is the 'navigation area'? Do you mean the Navigator panel?
But what does the 'in or out’ part then mean? Can you elaborate more, please?

Stephan, yes, it would be very handy.
But I now help to test a script that does exactly that, by Sergey Osokin, with suffixes and prefixes and numbering, for artboards only, yet.
Watch his github to grab it as soon it is released:

I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 26.1.0 which is available worldwide now.

Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.

You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html

Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!

Kevin, so you mean the button is not there in Control panel?

Well, it does not mean 'Isolation mode won’t work', right? It still does work if you double-click (if the option to allow it is enabled in Preferences), it still does work if you press an Isolate Selected Object hotkey (which is not assigned by default, but can be in Keyboard Shortcuts). Or does it?

That’s why I asked for the video in the first place, to see what you actually do to enter the mode :)

If you confirm this, this would have to be renamed and moved to a Feature Request section as 'Show Isolate Selected Object button in Control and Properties for groups with live text inside' — and I will vote for that, because it makes sense. Please comment back.
